Claude Raymond French
ELKHART - Claude Raymond French, 89, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart.
He was born Oct. 1, 1910, near Baxter Springs, the son of Samuel Daniel and Bertha Nordyke French. A resident of Elkhart since 1998, moving from Hugoton, he was a field technician for the oil industry.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge, both of Hugoton.
In 1930, he married
Nellie Coulter. She died in 1948. On March 10, 1952, he married
Hilldred Smith at Elkhart. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Larry, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Rita Anne Ubelhart, Willits, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Theda Turner, Keyes, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, Elkhart, with the Rev. Lee Skelton presiding. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Hugoton Cemetery.

Alice M. Welsch
LEWIS - Alice M. Welsch, 87, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Medicalodge, Kinsley.
She was born July 21, 1912, at Meno, Okla., the daughter of Herman and Carrie Unruh Koehn. A longtime Lewis resident, she was a homemaker.
On Oct. 28, 1932, she married
Tony Welsch at Buffalo, Okla. He died Nov. 23, 1993.
Survivors include: a daughter, Betty Roberts, Lewis; a brother, Virgil Koehn, Wichita; a sister, Josephine Nutz, Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and a grandson.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Trotter Cemetery, Lewis, with the Rev. Bill Stapleton presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.

Frederick E. Muth
VERNAL, Utah - Frederick E. Muth, 80, died Feb. 4, 2000, at his home in Vernal.
He was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Putman, Texas, the son of Frederick and Cora Ann Naylor Muth. A former Kansas resident, he had lived for 20 years in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and for 20 years in Vernal. He was a former driller and tool pusher in the oil fields of Kansas, a printer for the Steamboat Pilot, and an employee of Parish Oil Tools at Vernal, until retiring in 1981.
He belonged to St. James Catholic Church, Vernal.
On June 17, 1944, he married
Marilyn Margaret Link at Chase. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons; three sisters, including Shirley Ann Ingram, Chase; and five grandchildren.
Rosary and memorial Mass were held at St. James Catholic Church, Vernal. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Tanner Lee Stowe
GARDEN CITY - Tanner Lee Stowe, infant son of Lee C. and Patricia Ann McKenna Stowe, was stillborn Feb. 7, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
Survivors include: his parents, Garden City; a half-sister, Amanda Stowe, Yoder, Colo.; grandparents, Barbara McKenna, Garden City, and Dan McKenna and Eliane Stowe, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-grandmothers, Winona Holzmeister, Salina, and Wanda Clapp, West New York, N.J.; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Lee C. Stowe.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with Father James Baker presiding. There are no calling times. Burial will be at a later date.

James J. Ferrell
ATTICA - James J. Ferrell, 70, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Attica.
He was born March 22, 1929, at Amorita, Okla., the son of Leon "Boney" and Maude Winans Ferrell. He was a farmer and stockman.
He belonged to United Methodist Church, Attica.
On June 20, 1948, he married
Nyla Frey at Cherokee, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Scott, Pratt; a daughter, Susan Wiley, Attica; five brothers, Bill, Burlington, Okla., Ted, Wichita, Tom and Henry, both of Kiowa, and Ben, Newton; two sisters, Rosalie Morgan and Dolly Daniels, both of Cherokee, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church, Attica, with the Revs. Kathy Gann and Paul Banister presiding. Burial will be in Attica Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Attica Long Term Care Facility Activity Fund or to the church, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, Anthony.
Betty L. Fehrenbacher
ATCHISON - Betty L. Fehrenbacher, 76, died Jan. 27, 2000, at Medical Lodge, Atchison.
She was born Sept. 30, 1923 at Hutchinson, the daughter of William and Clora Baker Richardson. She attended schools at St. John and La Crosse. An Atchison resident, formerly of St. John, Macksville and Stafford, she was a nurse's aide, waitress, teacher's aide and had owned Betty's Pastry Shop, Macksville.
She belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seward.
On Oct. 31, 1941, she married
Wayne B. Fehrenbacher. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Melvin, Topeka, Daniel, Cleveland, Ohio, and Joseph R., Wichita; three daughters, Helen Skidmore, Atchison, Teresa Whiting, Great Bend, and Anna Lucido, Burden; a brother, Winfred "Bud" Richardson, Wichita; a stepbrother, Darryl Davis, Ponca City, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Minnis Chapel, St. John. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Seward, with Father Rene Guesnier presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Xavier Cemetery, Seward.

Julius Francis Goetz
HAYS - Julius Francis Goetz, 78, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus.
He was born, Oct. 1, 1921, at Victoria, the son of Leonard and Anna Mary Schmidtberger Goetz. A Hays resident since 1993, formerly of Salina and Goodland, he was an oil-field driller for Garvie Oil Co.
He belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hays, and Victoria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Feb. 21, 1949, he married
Mary K. VonFeldt at Clinton, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Francis L., Rock Springs, Wyo.; a daughter, Mary Ann Chand, Denver; two brothers, Ralph, Pratt, and Donald, Salina; two sisters, Lioba Boykin, Salina, and Alice Black, Cordell, Okla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Isabella Chapman, Laura Sickelbower, Carolyn Willcoxon and Evangelyn Fassbinder.
Victoria VFW rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., both at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Michael Suchnicki presiding. Military honors will be conducted by Victoria VFW Post No. 1751. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the mortuary. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.
