Irene Rose Schmitt
GREAT BEND - Irene Rose Schmitt, 76, died Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 11, 1923, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Andrew and Josephine Depperschmidt Herrman. A Great Bend resident since 1940, moving from Oakley, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.
On June 7, 1943, she married
Victor Schmitt at Oakley. He died Oct. 24, 1988.
Survivors include: a son, Nickolas J., Great Bend; three daughters, Virginia "Sue" Stroud, Shirley Harris and Betty Bender, all of Great Bend; two brothers, Elmer and Gilbert Herrman, both of Liebenthal; five sisters, Cleo Leiker, Virginia Andrasek and Theresa Lewis, all of Great Bend, Mary Leiker, Munjor, and Dorothy Davenport, La Crosse; nine grandchildren; a step-grandson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel, Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Charles Mazouch presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Ruby I. Pike
DODGE CITY - Ruby I. Pike, 83, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1916, in Clark County, the daughter of Fred and Naomi Park Mull. She attended schools at Ashland and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. A Dodge City resident since 1983, moving from Ashland, she worked at the Clark County Courthouse, was a bookkeeper for Ashland Oil Co., was a partner in farming and ranching with her husband and was a homemaker.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, was an organist for the Methodist Church and a pianist for the Church of God, all at Ashland.
On Feb. 19, 1946, she married
Harold Harrison Pike at Dodge City. He died Oct. 14, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Charles, Dodge City; a daughter, Janet Treder, Dodge City; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Don Hasty presiding. Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ashland.

Ada Nilson
SUBLETTE - Ada Nilson, 93, of Sublette, died Jan. 27, 2000, at Bethel Home Inc., where she had lived since 1997.
She was born March 3, 1906, in Scotland County, Mo., the daughter of Joseph and Julie Ann Dalton. A longtime Sublette resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star and the Social Neighbors Club, all at Sublette.
On Aug. 2, 1924, she married
William I. McGonigal. He died June 12, 1930. On Oct. 25, 1931, she married
Jacob Specht. She married
Dean Nilson in 1962. He died in 1967.
Survivors include: a daughter, Ella Mae Ocker, Copeland; a brother, Frank Dalton, Clovis N.M.; two sisters, Edna Shiflet, Golden, Colo., and Velma Peterson, Texas; four granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Bell Trahern; two brothers; four sisters; and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at United Methodist Church, Sublette, with the Revs. Mary Al Titus and Charles Waugh presiding. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.

Xenophon P. Smith Jr.
GREAT BEND - Xenophon P. Smith Jr., 73, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.
He was born April 18, 1926, at Omaha, Neb., the son of Xenophon P. Sr. and Irene C. Seery Smith. A Great Bend resident, he was a two-way service technician for Centel & Mobile and a bookkeeper for Bemis Construction.
He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Great Bend Amateur Radio Club, both at Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Feb. 15, 1953, he married
Evelyn V. Visser at Riley. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Xenophon "Phillip", Great Bend, and Seaton V., Powell, Wyo.; two daughters, Denise A. Parker, Fort Collins, Colo., and Marlene S. Worman, Derby; a brother, Forest S., Santa Fe, N.M.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. R. Laney Kuhn presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

HOISINGTON - Elizabeth Bitter, 93, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center.

Paul Glenn `Pete' Shelton
MILTON - Paul Glenn "Pete" Shelton, 72, died Jan. 28, 2000, at his home in rural Milton.
He was born March 22, 1927, at Coldwater, the son of Nathan Everett and Bessie Moon Shelton. A rural Milton resident for 11 years, formerly of Medicine Lodge, he was a retired barber and worked as a warehouseman for National Gypsum.
He belonged to United Methodist Church, the Masonic Delta Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M., Consistory, the Order of Eastern Star, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7625, all at Medicine Lodge.
On Sept. 5, 1953, he married
Belva Krase. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Terry, Wichita; two daughters, Barbara Strobel, Medicine Lodge, and Paulette Shelton, LaPine, Ore; a sister, Lola Gibson, Medicine Lodge; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, at Lanterman Funeral Home Chapel, Cheney, with the Rev. Ron Keith presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Norwich.

Nina Unruh
HALSTEAD - Nina Unruh, 86, died Jan. 27, 2000, at Halstead Hospital.
She was born Sept. 15, 1913, at Halstead, the daughter of Cornelius and Adena Becker Unruh. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead.
On Jan. 1, 1935, she married
Elmer C. Unruh at Cimarron. He died Dec. 31, 1988.
Survivors include: a son, Tony, Halstead; a daughter, Elaine Davis, Arlington, Wash.; four sisters, Lydia Unruh, Montezuma, Elizabeth Schmidt, Atwater, Calif., Pearl Kater, Wichita, and Clara Penner, Newton; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Abe, Dave C., J.C., Marcus, Cornelius and Raymond; and four sisters, Susan Smith, Melinda Koehn, Inez Friesen and Sarah Croy.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Mennonite Church, Halstead, with Ministers Kenneth Smith, Dean Becker, Raleigh Koehn and Stanley Wiggers presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.
