Ruby Elinor Warner
DODGE CITY - Ruby Elinor Warner, 86, died Jan. 21, 2000, at her home in northern Ford County.
She was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Gray County, the daughter of Oscar Benjamin and Anna Matilda Wagner Johnson. She grew up on a farm near Ensign. She attended Dodge City Community College. A Dodge City resident, she was a homemaker and was involved in ranching and livestock operations.
She belonged to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the American Morgan Horse Association, was a past member of the Topaz Club in Ford County, the Dodge City Area Council for Retarded Children; and was a past member of 4-H, all at Dodge City.
In 1941, she married
John J. Warner. He died April 20, 1996.
Survivors include: three sons, Willis Benjamin, Ford County, Jack Wayne, of the Warner Ranch, and Kelvin Stanton, Dodge City; two daughters, Elaine F. Pohlmann, Dodge City, and Kathleen Joan Warner-Brown, Severn, Maryland; two sisters, Ethel Penka, Fowler, and Mary Spurgeon, Gate, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel McQueen and Eileen Phillips.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Don Pray and Branch President, Terry Traylor presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warner Ranch Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Kansas Special Olympics, in care of the funeral home.
Sidney D. Miller
GREAT BEND - Sidney D. Miller, 89, died Jan. 21, 2000, at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend.
He was born Nov. 13, 1910, at Corona, Long Island, N.Y., the son of Robert and Mabel C. Wood Miller. A Great Bend resident since 1946, moving from Granite City, Ill., he was a public accountant for more than 40 years.
He belonged to St. John's Episcopal Church, the American Legion and Elks Lodge No. 1127, all at Great Bend, the National Society of Public Accountants, was past president of the Public Accountants Association of Kansas, belonged to and served as an officer and director of numerous oil fields and other area businesses. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Nov. 30, 1936, he married
Doris I. Asher at Granite City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Louis Kim, Evergreen, Colo.; a daughter, Cheryl Peterson, Brighton, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. "Tony"; a brother, Gordon; and a sister, Doris Weber.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Tom Keith presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Madeline F. Jorstad
LARNED - Madeline F. Jorstad, 92, died Jan. 21, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Larned.
She was born Dec. 30, 1907, at Eagle River, Wis., the daughter of Stuart and Mathilda Zick Langille. A longtime Rhinelander, Wis., resident, moving to Larned in 1996, she was an employment representative for 25 years for Wisconsin State Employment Service.
She belonged to St. Mary and Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church, Larned. She had tutored students in the Head Start program, was a former hospice volunteer and was a charter member of the Rhinelander BPW.
On Jan. 28, 1933, she married
Theodore Jorstad at Chicago. He died in 1981.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sandy Carpenter, Reno, Nev., and Judi Tabler, Larned; a sister, Claire Webster, Larned; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John; and two sisters, Helen and Lillian.
Memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary and Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church, Larned, with Father Tom Keith presiding. A memorial service will be held in Rhinelander at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church, in care of Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
Martha J. Markel
MONTEZUMA - Martha J. Markel, 83, died Jan. 22, 2000, at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born Feb. 1, 1916, on a farm south of Ingalls, the daughter of John Marion and Harriet Maria Posey Henderson. She attended schools in Ingalls and graduated from Garden City High School and Garden City Junior College. A Montezuma resident since 1938, she was a homemaker and taught at Montezuma Grade School.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, served on the church board and taught Sunday school.
On March 9, 1940, she married
Walter Ray Markel at Liberal. He died Jan. 6, 1992.
Survivors include: three sons, Charles, Dodge City, Lynn, Wichita, and Wayne, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Joyce Haivala, Wichita; a brother, John Elroy Henderson, Lakin; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Wayne Sharp presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Montezuma Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma.
