Kenneth Lyle Peck
DENVER - Kenneth Lyle Peck, 45, died Jan. 16, 2000, in Denver as the result of an automobile accident.
He was born March 6, 1954, at Oakley, the son of Lee Edward and Annabell Marie Tate Peck. He graduated from Oakley High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include: his mother, Oakley; and a brother, Carson Lee, Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Michael Bruce.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, with the Rev. Robert Phillips presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakley Cemetery.

Maxine Melva Shields Clemens
DODGE CITY - Maxine Melva Shields Clemens, 79, died Jan. 19, 2000, at her home in Phoenix.
She was born Oct. 20, 1920, at Minneola, the daughter of L. A. and Cora Miller Lingelbach. She graduated from Fairfax Oklahoma High School and from Central State Teachers College in Edmond, Okla. A Phoenix resident since 1989, formerly of Quincy, Ill., she was a teacher.
She belonged to Central United Methodist Church, the NEA and AEA.
On Dec. 9, 1945, she married
William D. Shields in Fairfax, Okla. He died May 26, 1989.
Survivors include: two sons, David Shields, Derby, and Eric Shields, Phoenix; and five grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Minneola Cemetery, with the Rev. Kip Ryherd presiding.

Talma Chapline
LIBERAL - Talma Chapline, 85, died Jan. 20, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
She was born Sept. 6, 1914, at Emerson, Ark., the daughter of E.L. and Pearlie T. Owen. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Liberal.
On Dec. 20, 1935, she married
R. O. Chapline at Homer, La. He died Aug. 10, 1986.
Survivors include: 17 nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by an infant child; six brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Kitch Funeral Home Chapel, Liberal, with the Rev. Philip Shull presiding. Friends may call until service time today at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, La.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.
Evart L. Vader
MANKATO - Evart L. Vader, 86, died Jan. 20, 2000, at Jewell County Hospital, Mankato.
He was born Oct. 13, 1913, near Lovewell, the son of John Harlow and Ella Belle Martin Vader. A lifetime Jewell County resident, he was a retired farmer.
On May 17, 1947, he married
Katherine Proctor at Mankato.
Survivors include: a daughter, Linda Wilson, Dodge City; three grandchildren; a step grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, with Pastor Thaddeus Kinkle presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at the mortuary, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato.

Gilbert J. Buckman Sr.
LOS ANGELES - Gilbert J. Buckman Sr., 71, died Jan. 19, 2000, at USC University Hospital, Los Angeles.
He was born Feb. 6, 1928, at Evansville, Ind., the son of, William J. and Ethel Pearl Wade Buckman. A Yorba Linda, Calif., resident, he was retired from McDonald Douglas Aircraft.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: six children, Terri Burget, Apple Valley, Calif., Diane Riddle and Gilbert Buckman Jr., both of Inman, Joe Buckman, Corona, Calif., Elizabeth Meeks and Lora Buckman, both of Atwood; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Long Beach, Calif. Eternity Cremation & Burial Service, Orange, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.
Lois Elaine Neufeld
OVERLAND PARK - Memorial services for Lois Elaine Neufeld, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hanston Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Gary Winget presiding.
She died Oct. 31, 1999, in the crash of EgyptAir Flight 990, near Nantucket, Mass.

Velda Marie Kell Blair
LARNED - Velda Marie Kell Blair, 79, died Jan. 18, 2000, at San Diego.
She was born Nov. 18, 1920, at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of L.J. "Wink" and Edra Nairn Kell. She attended Fort Hays State Teacher's College and Michigan State University, Lansing, Mich. She taught at Great Bend Junior High, Greenville Mich., and Tucson, Ariz., and La Mesa Spring Valley School District in San Diego County, retiring in 1980.
Survivors include: a son, Steven Dawes Smith, Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Jean Lynn Blair, San Diego; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Blair Mason, Santee, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Interment of cremains will be at a later time in Pawnee Rock Cemetery.

Jean L. Beatty
ELLSWORTH - Jean L. Beatty, 91, died Jan. 17, 2000, at Good Samaritan Retirement Village, Villa Grace, Ellsworth.
She was born Feb. 23, 1908, at Ellsworth, the daughter of Thomas E. and Bessie L. Gebhardt Beatty. An Ellsworth resident for the past seven years, moving from Florida, she had formerly lived in Wichita. She attended college in Battle Creek, Mich. She was formerly a physical therapist for the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita.
She belonged to the Episcopal Church and served with the American Red Cross in Italy and France during World War II.
Survivors include: three nephews, including Mike Beatty, Salina.
She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, Ellsworth, with Father Charles Schneider presiding. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
