Amelia `Mela' Lopez
GARDEN CITY - Amelia "Mela" Lopez, 65, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Kearny County Hospital, Lakin.
She was born April 23, 1934, at Garden City, the daughter of Jesus E. and Antonia Bonilla Ledesma. She attended Garden City schools. A High Plains Retirement Village, Lakin, resident since the late 1980's, she worked at Dixie Café for several years.
She belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City.
On Feb. 18, 1969, she married
Lucio R. Lopez at Garden City. He died May 23, 1979.
Survivors include: a son, Lucio Jr., Wichita; two daughters, Carmen Soto, Garden City, and Anita Razo, Lexington, Neb.; a brother, Jesus B., Garden City; six sisters, Columba Ramirez, Gloria Hernandez, Nieves Gallardo, Rutila Campos and Mary Medina, all of Garden City, and Raquel Lopez, Holcomb; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; a brother, Ezequiel; a sister, Sophia Garcia; and her stepfather, Abraham Campos.
Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by a rosary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Fred C. Anderson
HUGOTON - Fred C. Anderson, 87, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, Hugoton.
He was born April 30, 1912, near Woods, the son of George W. and Ella May Waite. A lifetime Stevens County resident, he was a retired farmer and worked for Northern Natural Gas Co.
He belonged to First Christian Church, was a life member and past master of Hugoton Masonic Lodge No. 406, A.F. & A.M.
On Aug. 15, 1933, he married
Dorothy Fern Olinger at Hugoton. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Dwayne, Hugoton, Larry, Ulysses, and Robert, Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Barbara Palmer, Hugoton; a brother, E. Budd, Hugoton; five sisters, his twin, Fanny Kagarice, Avanell Gaskell, and Deanie Hall, all of Hugoton, Avis Curtis, Moscow, and Inez Ramey, Gainesville, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Owen, Deward, Vester and A. Jay; and five sisters, Murland Crawford, Marie Butcher, Agnes Allen, Illa Fern Anderson and Vella Stoops.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding and Steven and Vernon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites by the Masonic Lodge No. 406 A.F. & A.M.

Jeannette M. Hulse Derr
GREAT BEND - Jeannette M. Hulse Derr, 88, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Great Bend.
She was born Dec. 5, 1911, at Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of Frederick Thomas and Abbie Charlotte Larson Hulse. She attended Girls Commercial High School, Brooklyn, N.Y. A Great Bend resident since 1991, formerly of Pleasant Grove, Utah, she was a housewife and secretary at Bellvue Hospital, New York, N.Y.
She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Order of the Eastern Star, was president of Relief Society, both at Queens, N.Y., secretary of the Stake Relief Society, and served a stake mission.
On Jan. 21, 1933, she married
Harry Kenneth Derr at Stamford, Conn. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Diana Swan, Great Bend; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Thomas; and a sister, Gertrude Lillian Hulse Hansen.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Fryberger Mortuary, Great Bend, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Beverly Ann Davis
PLAINS - Beverly Ann Davis, 67, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born June 9, 1932, at Malvern, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Isabelle Yegge Mulholland. She graduated from Stanford University. A longtime Lodi, Calif., resident, moving to Plains in 1998, she was a homemaker, a retired Hallmark business owner and teacher.
She attended United Methodist Church and Friends of the Library, both at Plains.
On Aug. 12, 1955, she married
Donald L. Davis at Greeley, Colo. He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Kim Eakes, Plains, and Jill Whippo, Garden City; mother, Isabelle Ripley, Sweet Home, Ore.; a brother, Walt Mulholland, Sweet Home; a sister, Jan Wellhauser, Broansville, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; a son, Brad; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Plains, with the Rev. Vernon Maelzer presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery.

Ervin Foth
NEWTON - Ervin Foth, 87, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Halstead Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1912, near Hillsboro, the son of Henry and Anna Heir Foth. A Newton resident since 1983, moving from Walton, he was a farmer and worked at Tip Top Dairy, Hillsboro, Harvey County Highway Department as a maintenance foreman, and as a custodian.
He belonged to Walton Mennonite Church and attended Grace Community Church, Newton.
On Nov. 28, 1937, he married
Laura Peters at Goessel. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Kenneth, Osage City, and Edward, Newton; three daughters, Delores Stika, Marion, Lois Prewit, El Dorado, and Margie Heidel, Newton; 10 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Ray; a daughter, Wanda Fern Foth; two brothers, Elmer and Henry; a sister, Anna Witzke; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Community Church, Newton, with Pastors David Reimer and Steve Friesen presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Carmen A. Reed
CUNNINGHAM - Carmen A. Reed, 86, died Jan. 10, 2000, at Oklahoma City.
She was born July 31, 1913, at Preston, the daughter of Isaac and Della Crick Waters. A Cunningham resident for most of her life, also living in Towanda, Riverside, Calif., and for the past five years at Eppworth Villa Retirement Village, Oklahoma City, she was a homemaker and a former school board member.
She belonged to the Christian Church, Cunningham, was a longtime Women's Group member, and the Della Chapter No. 172 Order of the Eastern Star, Kingman.
In 1934, she married
Albert Ion Harris at Kingman. He died in 1966. In 1969, she married
Ercel Reed at Newkirk, Okla. He died in 1989.
Survivors include: three sons, Gale, East Lansing, Mich., Leaman, Edmond, Okla., and Layne, Pratt; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Orville Waters; and a sister, Elva Glenn.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christian Church, Cunningham, with Bill McCrary officiating. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Shelman Cemetery, Cunningham.
