Betty Lucille Blackburn
LEOTI - Betty Lucille Blackburn, 75, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Greeley County Hospital, Tribune.
She was born March 7, 1924, at Rockford, Ill., the daughter of Mervyn H. and Eleanor M. Hix Sorensen. A resident of Leoti since 1946, she was a clerk of the District Court, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Wichita County Historical Society, both at Leoti, and the Butterfield Trail Association, Russell Springs. She helped organize the Leoti Veterans of the Foreign Wars Auxiliary and held several local and district offices, serving as state president from 1973 to 1974.
On Oct. 5, 1945, she married
Clyde Blackburn at Love's Park, Ill. He died Sept. 18, 1999.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert, Camarillo, Calif., Wayne, Dodge City, and Brad, Ardmore, Okla.; a daughter, Bonnie Alverez, Hays; her mother, Leoti; a brother, Richard Sorensen, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Paul McNall presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Inurnment will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Blanche Carver
SCOTT CITY - Blanche Carver, 90, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.
She was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Scott County, the daughter of Olney and Jennie Piper Silvey. A lifetime resident of Scott and Wichita counties, she taught at rural schools in Scott and Wichita Counties for more than 30 years and was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Scott City, the Sunflower Unit of Retired Teachers, Garden City, the Modoc Sewing Group, Modoc, and the CWF Church Group, Scott City.
On May 9, 1948, she married
Eugene Francis Carver at Scott City. He died Oct. 25, 1995.
Survivors include: a daughter, Linda Lang, Hays; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Silvey.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring presiding. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Harvey E. Roelfs
BUSHTON - Harvey E. Roelfs, 82, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor.
He was born June 16, 1917, at Bushton, the son of Herman and Julia Williams Roelfs. A resident of Lyons, he was a farmer, stockman and a plumber.
He belonged to Salem United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Bushton.
On April 15, 1944, he married
Dortha Mae Elliott at Rozel. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Pat Bonner, Wichita; three sisters, Pearl Roelfs, Lyons, Fern Wilkin, Hutchinson; and Alice Roper, Manhattan.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosetta and Airnetta.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Salem United Methodist Church in rural Bushton, with the Rev. Priscilla Davies presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.

Eleanor Charlotte Swift
ASHLAND - Eleanor Charlotte Swift, 81, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Ashland Health Center, Ashland.
She was born Aug. 11, 1918, at Acres, the daughter of Burt Arthur and Urmie Vurnett Fry Lutes. A resident of Ashland for most of her life, she was a homemaker and laborer.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Ashland.
On July 7, 1952, she married
Ralph W. Swift at Cottonwood Falls. He died March 12, 1987.
Survivors include: a daughter, Ella May Rollins, Ashland; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Chapel, Cottonwood Falls, with the Rev. John Hastings presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Burial will be in Matfield Green Cemetery, Matfield.

KINGMAN - Lola Pearl Base, 87, died Feb. 8, 2000, at Harper District Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912, at Murdock, the daughter of Harvey and Effie Moorhouse Beshore. A lifetime resident of Kingman County, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Church of the First born and the Basil Club of Kingman County.
On April 9, 1935, she married
Leonard C. Base at Anthony. He survives.
Others survivors include: two sons, Clifton, Rago, and Clinton, Ness City; two brothers, Lyle, of Kingman and Ray, Murdock; a sister, Theda Davis, Murdock; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman, with the Rev. Jeff Farmer presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and Friday at the funeral home, with the family receiving guests from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in HuntCemeteryin rural Kingman County.
