Dessie May Lutschg
LYONS - Dessie May Lutschg, 74, died Feb. 1, 2000, at her home in Lyons.
She was born Nov. 5, 1925, in northern Stafford County, the daughter of William and Lillie May Grow Rousseau. A Lyons resident since June 1991, moving from Lincoln, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, Lyons.
On Feb. 6, 1943, she married
Robert E. Lutschg at Great Bend. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gary E., Creve Coeur, Ill. a daughter, Rita Aileen Osborne; Brownfield, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley H. Rousseau; and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ, Lyons, with Jimmie Keas presiding. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Eden Valley Cemetery, northern Stafford County.

Loretta Mae Meyer
STOCKTON - Loretta Mae Meyer, 65, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
She was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Phillips County, the daughter of Lewis and Glennys Faye Reed Stephen. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1952. A Nevis, Minn., resident, since 1978, formerly of Stockton and Syracuse, she was a part-time Fuller Brush Dealer and a secretary for Wheatland Electric, Syracuse.
She belonged to Nevis Church of Christ, the Nevis Church of Christ Missionary Society and the Nevis Chapter of the Federated Women's Club of America.
On Sept. 21, 1952, she married
Duane W. Meyer at Stockton. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Donald, Liberal, Mitch, Bartlesville, Okla., Larry, Lakin, and Basil, Apple Valley, Minn.; a daughter, Susan Farson, Pekin, Ill.; four brothers, Lawrence Stephen, Topeka, LeRoy Stephen, Phillipsburg, Leonard Stephen, Colby, and Lewis Stephen, Hays; three sisters, Lana Odle, Stockton, Lorene Alexander, Carmichael, Calif., and Lucille Brush, Morris, Okla.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, Stockton, with the Rev. Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorial service will be Friday at Nevis Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, rural Stockton.

John J. Smies
COURTLAND - John J. Smies, 83, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1916, at Spencer, Iowa, the son of Ernest H. and Winifred Alexander Smies. A Courtland resident since 1956, after retiring from the U.S. Navy he was a farmer and a coin dealer.
He belonged to United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge, both at Courtland, the American Numismatic Association, the Central States Numismatic Society, the NCK Coin Collectors Club, Concordia, the Consistory Scottish Rite and Isis Shrine Temple, both at Salina. was executive director of the Professional Numismatists Guild and was past commander of the Knight Templar, Concordia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Feb. 21, 1940, he married
Gladys Behrends. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David, Manhattan; a daughter, Linda Smies Kraus, Pretty Prairie; two brothers, Henry and William, both of Courtland; a sister, Mary Lauren, Bellingham, Wash.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Courtland, with Pastor Harlan Nonhof presiding. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in White Rock Cemetery, Courtland, with Masonic graveside rites by Lodge No. 211, Courtland.

Helen House Wood
Helen House Wood, 92, died Jan. 29, 2000, at Dillon Living Center. Hutchinson.
She was born March 20, 1907, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Delbert C. and Adele Crippen House. She graduated from Hutchinson High School. A Littleton, Colo., resident for many years, returning to Hutchinson in 1960, she was a retired legal secretary.
She attended First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.
On Dec. 27, 1929, she married
Fletcher Orval Wood at Medford, Okla. He died Sept. 6, 1994.
Survivors include: a sister-in- law, Irene MacPherson, Hutchinson; and six nieces.
She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Barbara and Marilyn.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Willard Stafford presiding. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Emmett L. Yeager
LIBERAL - Emmett L. Yeager, 87, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
He was born Sept. 10, 1912, at Covert, the son of John and Flora Crawshaw Yeager. He graduated from Covert High School and Fort Hays State University with a degree in industrial arts. He taught for several years at Edson and worked as a railway mail clerk between Kansas City and Tucumcari, N.M., for more than 30 years, retiring to Liberal in 1968.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Liberal Pancakers Camping Club, helped organize the AARP in Liberal and served as its first president. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Jan. 26, 1935, he married
Dolly M. Fry at Dodge City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Eldon E., Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Tressie Moore, Farmington, N.M.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Mortuary Chapel, Liberal, with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and until service time Tuesday, all at the mortuary. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Liberal.

Lavada Marie Base
GALVA - Lavada Marie Base, 74, died Jan. 29, 2000, at The Cedars, McPherson.
She was born Jan. 9, 1926, at Homestead, Okla., the daughter of Jessie and Eva Kahn Nightingale. A Galva resident since 1948, she was a cook and dietary aide at Becker Nursing Home, McPherson.
She belonged to Word of Faith Fellowship, McPherson, and was a former member of United Center Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Galva.
On July 25, 1948, she married
Ralph Base at Chickasha, Okla. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Earl, Galva, and Junior Jay, McPherson; a brother, Paul Nightingale, Chickasha; three sisters, Ruth Koehn, Arthur, Ill., Verla Goertzen, Fulton, Ky., and Rose Mary Jantz, Chickasha; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Nightingale; and three sisters, Louise, Wanda and Elnora Nightingale.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home Chapel, McPherson, with the Revs. Vernon Holloway and Dale Christiansen presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in United Center Church Cemetery, Galva.
