Dorothy L. Otis
SCOTT CITY - Dorothy L. Otis, 76, died June 5, 2000, at her home in Scott City.
She was born Feb. 5, 1924, at Herington, the daughter of Daniel and Lydia Miller Friesen. A Scott City resident since 1989, having lived in Garden City and Wichita, she was retired from retail sales and was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Dodge City.
On July 31, 1943, she married
Bobby M. Otis at Louisville, Ky. He died June 8, 1971, at Garden City.
Survivors include: a son, Kelly M. Otis, Wichita; two daughters, Jo Lynne Smith, Galt, Calif., and Linda S. Kuhn, Scott City; three brothers, Daniel Friesen, Marlton, N.J., Glen Friesen, Newkirk, Okla., and Gary Friesen, Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Mereda Taylor, Topeka, and Charlene Schubert, Lake Sherwood, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur and Merlin Friesen; and two sisters, Oretta Friesen and Helen Bosh.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with Jeff Arnold presiding.

Harry Victor Bernard
LARNED - Harry Victor Bernard, 88, died Dec. 23, 1999, at Bella Vista, Ark.
He was born Dec. 12, 1911, in St. Louis, the son of William H. and Mary E. Tanner Bernard. He was a graduate of Zook High School and attended McPherson College. He was a store manager for Duckwall/ALCO Stores Inc. for more than 40 years.
He married
Dona L. VanHorn in 1936. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Dan Alan, Laguna Niguel, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Ann Satterfield, Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Marjorie Cline, Larned; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Larned Cemetery, Larned, with the Rev. Carl Martin presiding. Cremation took place. Inurnment will be in Larned Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to an organization of the donor's choice, in care of Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
James Dee Jennings
HUGOTON - James Dee Jennings, 48, died June 5, 2000, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.
He was born Aug. 12, 1951, in Pueblo, Colo., the son of John Dee and Neva Coffee Jennings. He was a pen rider for Sunbelt Feeders, Hugoton.
Survivors include: a son, Jake, Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Dori Nichols, Pueblo, and Jeana Rodigues, Pueblo West, Colo.; a sister, Sandy Proctor, Pueblo West; and two grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. A private family service and inurnment will be in Pueblo later. Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of local arrangements.
Bertha Denning
VICTORIA - Bertha Denning, 85, died June 5, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence.
She was born Nov. 16, 1914, in Victoria, the daughter of Joseph P. and Magdelena Windholz Scheck. She owned a drapery and upholstery shop in Victoria until 1983, then moved to Lawrence in 1985. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria.
She married
Richard Denning on Oct. 30, 1939, at Victoria. He died Jan. 7, 1985.
Survivors include: a son, Donald, St. Louis; a daughter, Darlene Ward, Lawrence; five brothers, Peter Scheck, Great Bend; Edwin and Melvin and Scheck, both of Russell; Linus Scheck, Macksville; and Gilbert Scheck, Hays; four sisters, Mary Weigel, Katie Scheck and Lena Meder, all of Victoria, and Rubina Dinkel, Oakley; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Seraphin and Victor Scheck; and a sister, Leona Scheck.
Vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cline's Mortuary, Victoria. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, with Father Frank X. Grinko presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Thomas Noland Pearson
GREAT BEND - Thomas Noland Pearson, 92, died June 5, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.
He was born March 2, 1908, at Mountain View, Mo., the son of William M. and Nevada Winningham Pearson. A resident of Great Bend for the past two years, moving from Enid, Okla., he was a rancher and farmer.
He was a member of the Methodist Church at Enid and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On Dec. 28, 1938, he married
Linda E. Ratzlaff at Fairview, Okla. She died Dec. 26, 1993.
Survivors include: a son, Thomas, Great Bend; a sister, Pauline Brayton, Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, with Loren Dyke presiding. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 2270, Enid. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend.

Robert Joseph Taylor
HAYS - Memorial service for Robert Joseph Taylor, 68, who died May 5, 2000, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tatanka Lodge on Lake Wilson.

Frank 'Bud' Humiston
INMAN - Frank "Bud" Humiston, 96, of Inman, died June 3, 2000, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.
He was born Jan. 4, 1904, at Huntsville, the son of Frank S. and Sallie Hickman Humiston. A lifetime Hutchinson area resident, he was employed by the former Jimmie Hayes Cleaners for 25 years, and later by Dillon Companies, both at Hutchinson. He retired in 1969.
On Aug. 18, 1929, he married
Ruth Pauline Griggs at Sterling. She died Dec. 11, 1972.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard and James, both of Hutchinson; a daughter, Sally Eubanks, Nickerson; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, William; three brothers, Harold, Ed and Hod; and four sisters, Carrie Holmes, Maxine Humiston, Fern Hull and Anna Mae Byrd.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Paul Danner presiding. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Lorene I. Murphy
BURRTON - Lorene I. Murphy, 76, died June 7, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born Sept. 23, 1923, at Guymon, Okla., the daughter of Louis and Merele Forbes Swenkie. A former resident of Ulysses, Hays and Hutchinson, moving to Burrton in 1998, she was a sales consultant for Fashion 220 and a homemaker.
In December 1964, she married
Thomas E. Murphy at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Pitchford, McPherson, and Tony Pitchford, Hutchinson; a brother, Cecil Swenkie, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, both at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
Dorothy Teri Drouhard
HARPER - Dorothy Teri Drouhard, 75, died June 6, 2000, at Wichita.
She was born Oct. 2, 1924, at Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Vera Erskine Guthrie. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish Community.
On April 25, 1983, she married
Albert Drouhard at Danville. He survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Susan Smoot, Carson City, Nev.; three stepsons, Sam, Wayne and Albert Drouhard III, all of Harper; seven stepdaughters, Marilyn Tillett, Allen, Texas, Margaret Hamilton and Joy Drouhard, both Wichita, Francie Lemons, Murphy, Texas, Jeanne Neises, Wellington, Connie Pohl, Hutchinson, and Laurie Drouhard, Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Robert Guthrie, Harper, and Royce Guthrie, Big Bear Lake, Nev.; a sister, Jackie Jacobs, Harper; two grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Danville. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Michael Peltzer presiding. Inurnment will be in Harper Cemetery.
