Elsie Jane Hathaway
ST. JOHN - Elsie Jane Hathaway, 63, died Feb. 20, 2000, at Stafford District Hospital.
She was born Dec. 19, 1936, at Shaffer, the daughter of Ezra Ephraim Sr. and Doshia Hazel Brian Smith. A St. John resident for 35 years, she was a homemaker and an assistant editor of the Chiron Review Literary Magazine. She was co-founder of the Chiron Review Poetry Festival.
She belonged to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
On Feb. 1, 1958, she married
Jerry R. Hathaway at St. John. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Michael, St. John, Joseph R., San Diego, Calif., John Edwards Jr., Freeman, Mo., and Ben Edwards, Lawrence; a daughter, Sally Edwards, Salina; a brother, Ezra E. Smith Jr., Maize; three sisters, Lillian Davis, Garden City, Sue Caster, Douglas, and Charlene Morgan, St. John; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Hathaway; and three sisters, Laura Mae Davis, Irene Hacker and Jean Hathaway.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with the Rev. A.J. Owens presiding. There will be no visitation. Cremation took place.
Memorials may be sent to Stafford District Hospital or to PETA, both in care of the funeral chapel.
Arthur E. Hunt
FORT DODGE - Arthur E. Hunt, 76, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Halsey Hall, Fort Dodge.
He was born Jan. 29, 1924, at Odebolt, Iowa, the son of Joseph Albert and Mertel Blanche Johnson Hunt. A Fort Dodge resident since 1993, moving from Hays, he was a tool pusher for Raines & Williamson Oil Co., was the owner and operator of Edsco Oil until his retirement in 1985, and was the current owner and operator of Sutler Store, Fort Dodge.
He belonged to the American Legion and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Fort Dodge. He was a U.S. Naval Air Force veteran of World War II.
On Sept. 21, 1947, he married
Clara Mae Massey at Republican City, Neb. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Arthur W. 'Bill, ' Inola, Okla., Albert, Hays, David, Tulsa, Okla., and Larry, Greely, Colo.; a brother, Wayne, Lakeview, Iowa; three sisters, Ethel Gerdes, Wall Lake, Iowa, Gertrude Fuchs, Estherville, Iowa, and Marla Lint, Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fort Dodge Chapel, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date in Republican City Cemetery, Nebraska.

Marguerite Hunt
TRIBUNE - Marguerite Hunt, 96, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Newton Medical Center.
She was born March 26, 1903, at Girard, the daughter of Jacob Albert and Anna Barbara Engel Clausen. She lived and farmed in Tribune before moving to Presbyterian Manor, Newton, in 1995.
She belonged to First Presbyterian Church and the Embroidery Club, both at Tribune, three bridge clubs, was active in the Co-op with her husband and attended the Tribune Senior Center.
On Feb. 20, 1926, she married
Chase Hunt at Girard. He died in Aug. 1979.
Survivors include: a son, Melvin Chase, Manhattan; a daughter, Barbara Ann Decker, Wichita; two brothers, Lawrence Clausen, Girard, and George Clausen, Milton-Freewater, Ore.; a sister, Elsie Vance, Pittsburg; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Clausen; and a sister, Alma Harmon.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. MT Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Charlie Ayers presiding. A private family graveside service will be held in Tribune.

Mary Hiebert Neal
LEHIGH - Mary Hiebert Neal, 51, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born April 8, 1948, at Los Angeles, the daughter of George Carl and Mabel Violet Wall Hiebert. A Lehigh resident, she was an educator at Hillsboro Elementary and Middle School.
She belonged to Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
On Oct. 9, 1977, she married
Gaylan W. Neal at Oklahoma City. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Wayne, Oklahoma; four daughters, Bonnie Wilson, Tacoma, Wash., Vessa Cartmill, Baton Rouge, La., Mary Anna Kates, Noble, Okla., and Angie Wilson, Norman, Okla.; her mother, Hillsboro; a sister, G. Annette Hench, Claremont, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hillsboro M.B. Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, with Pastor Larry Parrish presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel.

Irene K. Wise
DODGE CITY - Irene K. Wise, 89, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Western Plains Regional Hospital, Dodge City.
She was born July 10, 1910, in Finney County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary DeArmond Van Kenton. A Cimarron resident since 1989, formerly of Hutchinson, Dodge City and Gray County, she returned to Dodge City in 1999 and was a nurse's aide.
On Dec. 24, 1928, she married
Milton Standley at Cimarron. She later married
T.R. Wise in September 1950 at Stafford.
Survivors include: two sons, Donald E. Standley, Dodge City, and John D. Standley, Soledad, Calif.; two daughters, Mary Jo Fortsch, Las Vegas, and Marjy Staats, Scott City; a sister, Ruth Owens, Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Cimarron Cemetery, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.

Minnie Olive Cole Hoch Stetler
ALBUQUERQUE - Minnie Olive Cole Hoch Stetler, 92, died Feb. 18, 2000, at Albuquerque, N.M.

Mildred M. Hall
NEWTON - Mildred M. Hall, 96, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Newton Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1903, at Potwin, the daughter of Charlie and Emma Anna Bokley Rhoades. She was a Newton resident.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, Newton.
On June 5, 1922, she married
N.J. Hall at Wichita. He died Feb. 26, 1983.
Survivors include: two sons, Roland 'Jack, ' Eagle Rock, Mo., and Clyde, Sumner, Wash.; a daughter, Betty L. Hanson, Wichita; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, William; three brothers; and four sisters.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with the Rev. L. Ray Young presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.

Frances Mary Bozone
RURAL ROLLA - Frances Mary Bozone, 90, died Feb. 21, 2000, at Morton County Care Center, Elkhart.
She was born Feb. 20, 1910, at Flagler, Colo., the daughter of Carl Alfred and Elsie Mae Jones Edelman. A rural Rolla resident, she was a registered nurse and homemaker.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, Hugoton.
In 1934, she married
Samuel W. Bozone at Oklahoma.
Survivors include: two sons, Peter, Cusseta, Ala., and David, rural Rolla; a sister, Gertrude Gerber, Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Lee; two brothers, Alfred and Earl Edelman; and a sister, Pauline Dooley.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence, with Brother Peter Bozone presiding.

Leroy Henry Stieben
BAZINE - Leroy Henry Stieben, 68, died Feb. 20, 2000, at Ness County Hospital, Ness City.
He was born June 22, 1931, at Bazine, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Margheim Stieben. A lifetime Bazine resident, he was a farmer.
He belonged St. Paul Congregational Church and American Legion Post No. 392, both at Bazine, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On May 11, 1958, he married
Juanita Strait at Bazine. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gary, Bazine; his mother, Bazine; a brother, Larry, Bazine; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Congregational Church, Bazine, with Pastor Jason Godsell presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Bazine Cemetery, with military graveside rites by Bazine American Legion Post No. 392.
