Beulah May Sherwood
NEWTON – Beulah May Sherwood, 81, died April 25, 2000, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
She was born Aug. 17, 1918, at Arkansas City, the daughter of Jasper N. and Odessa Clemens Pointer. A resident of Newton, she was a homemaker.
On Dec. 26, 1990, she married Edward Sherwood at Silverdale. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Stephen G. Smith, Silver Spring, Md.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl C. Pointer; and two sisters, Ernestine Maltz and Ila Haskins.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hackney.
Memorials may be sent to Central Homecare & Hospice of Newton, in care of the funeral home.

Judy Beck
McLOUTH – Judy Beck, 60, died April 17, 2000, at Pensacola, Fla.
She was born Dec. 16, 1939, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Earle E. and Martha M. Kenzie Roher. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. She was a resident of McLouth, formerly of Hutchinson and Lawrence.
On Nov. 23, 1961, she married Maynard Beck at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Rudy Beck, Lecompton, and Timothy Beck, Lawrence.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson & Sons Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Melvin Walton presiding.
Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, in care of Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson.

Gilbert E. Mehl
LORRAINE – Gilbert E. Mehl, 82, died April 25, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born May 25, 1917, in rural Ellsworth County, the son of Fred and Anna Bender Mehl. A longtime Lorraine area resident, he was a retired farmer.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Holyrood.
On Aug. 3, 1941, he married Ruth Reed at Kanopolis. She died Jan. 16, 1979.
Survivors include: three sons, Gene, Hutchinson, Donald, Donna, Texas, and Max, Oklahoma; two daughters, Mary Mehl, Hutchinson, and Betty L. Beagley, Sterling; a sister, Clara Russell, Holyrood; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Holyrood, with the Rev. John Sharp presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Holyrood.
Memorials may be sent to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Josephine Marie Ayres Zoglman
WICHITA – Josephine Marie Ayres Zoglman, 84, died April 26, 2000, at Wichita.
She was born Nov. 11, 1915, at Andale, the daughter of Nathan and Lena Hermes Ayres. A resident of Wichita, she was a homemaker
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colwich, and the Altar Society.
On April 25, 1933, she married Roman Zoglman at Ost. He died in March 1978.
Survivors include: four sons, Elroy, Garden Plain, Larry, Maize, and Greg and Norm, both of Wichita; three daughters, Nadine Tiemeyer, Toronto, Kan., Sister Marie Zoglman, Derby, and Ruth Ocker, Wichita; two brothers, Raymond Ayres, Nickerson, and Everett Ayres, Viola; two sisters, Loretta Horsch, Andale, and May Rose Patry, Colwich; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Audine Stockemer.
Rosaries will be at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colwich. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father Reinhard Eck presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Colwich. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Colwich.
Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, in care the mortuary.

Virginia K. Risley Ediger
Virginia K. Risley Ediger, 82, died May 5, 2000, at the Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Nov. 14, 1917, at Jet, Okla., the daughter of Earl and Marcia Jarvis Risley. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1935. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she worked as a secretary at Wiley Elementary School and at Central Bank and Trust Co. She was later a payroll clerk for the city of Hutchinson, retiring in 1973.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, where she served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and hostess. She was active in the Meals On Wheels program, and was a member of the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary.
On Sept. 17, 1938, she married Ed L. Ediger at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jay, Prairie Village; a daughter, Marcia Perry, Tulsa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Robert and Al Risley.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Jim Autrey presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., both at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Herman N. Schierling
INMAN - Herman N. Schierling, 85, died May 5, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1914, at Inman, the son of William P. and Margret Minnie Nickel Schierling. A Hutchinson resident since 1949, returning to Inman in 1994, he was a retired car man and inspector for the Santa Fe Railroad for 31 years.
He belonged to the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Oct. 12, 1949, he married Dora A. Fehdrau at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Howard, Inman, and Kenneth, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; two sisters, Malinda Fullerton, Wichita, and Hilda Voth, Inman; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie and Arnie.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in North Inman Cemetery, with Jerry Kaiser presiding. Military honors will be conducted by a funeral detail from Fort Riley. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., both at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Violette M. 'Vi' Holwerda
LINDSBORG - Violette M. "Vi" Holwerda, 92, died May 6, 2000, at Lindsborg Community Hospital.
She was born Feb. 14, 1908, at Salina, the daughter of Charles A. and Elizabeth Norling Nelson. A Lindsborg resident since 1931, moving from Chicago and Oak Park, Ill., she was a retired registered nurse, working at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, and was a former housemother at the University of Kansas, and a dormitory mother at Bethany College.
She belonged to Messiah Lutheran Church, the Lydia Marion Bible Study Group of the church; the Senior Citizens Center, the Hospital Auxiliary, and was Queen of the Svensk Hyllningsfest, on the 50th anniversary of the festival in 1991, all at Lindsborg.
On March 22, 1930, she married Dr. William G. Holwerda at Salina. He died Oct. 2, 1964.
Survivors include: two sons, Wills K., Nunn, Colo., and James R., Hot Springs Village, Ark.; a daughter, Mary Jane MacLeod, Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Howard Nelson, Chandler, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Harry Nelson; three sisters, Margaret Ostenberg, Hazel Nelson and Harriette Miller; and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, with the Revs. Don Hawk and Dr. Victoria Brundage presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., both at Hays Funeral Home, Lindsborg. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
Memorials may be sent to Bethany Home, the church or to the Lindsborg Community Hospital, all in care of the funeral home.

Marjorie McAllister
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Marjorie McAllister, 83, died May 5, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa.
She was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Clark County, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Mary Pike Hughs. A Tahlequah resident since 1986, moving from Clark County, she was a homemaker.
She married Carl W. McAllister. He died Feb. 4, 1986.
Survivors include: three daughters, Wanda Barnes, Tahlequah, Okla., Priscilla Smith, Apache Junction, Ariz., and Darlene Coldren, Hennessey, Okla.; a brother, Jesse Hughs, Bucklin; a sister, Helen Marrs, Wichita; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bucklin Cemetery, with the Rev. James Pollom presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.
