Lorane Gladys Schmidt
GREENSBURG - Lorane Gladys Schmidt, 91, died May 7, 2000, at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.
She was born Feb. 21, 1909, in rural Meno, Okla., the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Schmidt Wedel. She attended Bethel Academy, Newton. She was the head cook at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, retiring after 17 years.
She belonged to Greensburg Mennonite Church and the Quilting Circle.
On Oct. 8, 1929, she married
Otis Frank Schmidt at Enid, Okla. He died June 28, 1957.
Survivors include: a son, Wayne, Minneola; a daughter, Mary Slief, Greensburg; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greensburg Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Jeff Blackburn presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Fleener Chapel, Greensburg. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.

Max Dean Ek
McPHERSON - Max Dean Ek, 69, died May 7, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1930, at McPherson, the son of Elof W. and Helen E. Collins Ek. A longtime McPherson resident, he was a retired boiler-plant engineer and training officer for McPherson Board of Public Utilities.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, was a life member (52 years) of American Legion Post No. 24, was a booster member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2715 and belonged to B.P.O.E., all at McPherson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1947 to 1951.
On Feb. 22, 1951, he married
Delores Coronado at Anaheim, Calif. On Sept. 14, 1958, he married
Carol Ruth Everhart at Canton. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Roy Dean, Brea, Calif.; a daughter, Debbie Dee Restor, Fullerton, Calif.; a sister, Pearl Jean Glenn, Loveland, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, with the Rev. Larry Harvey presiding. Private family burial of cremains will be in McPhersonCemeteryprior to the memorial service. There will be no visitation.

Allen Floyd Lutes
PRATT - Allen Floyd Lutes, 76, died May 6, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Nov. 13, 1923, at Fowler, the son of Archie F. and Alta O. Collins Lutes. A Pratt resident for 37 years, moving to Nickerson in January, he was a Pratt County employee.
He belonged to Pratt Calvary Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pratt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Feb. 11, 1950, he married
Mary Bowlin at Fayetteville, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, John, Decatur, Ill., Rex, Newton, and Robert, San Diego; a daughter, Carol Divine, Nickerson; two sisters, Aetna Diorio, Pueblo, Colo., and Ava Cawthon, Kinsley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin; and three sisters, Amelia Crosley, Adelia Hackett and Armilda Wooten.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pratt Calvary Baptist Church, with Minister Scott Buller presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary, Pratt. Burial will be in Cairo Cemetery.

Jonnie Kollmorgan
ANTHONY - Jonnie Kollmorgan, 80, died May 6, 2000, at Anthony.
She was born Dec. 5, 1919, at Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Anna Kollmorgan. An Anthony resident for seven years, she was the retired owner of J&J Screen, Kansas City.
Survivors include: mother, Anna Bouse, Anthony.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Caldwell Cemetery, with Jim Slaughter presiding. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home, Anthony.

Joseph 'Joe' W. Beran
ODIN - Joseph "Joe" Beran, 71, died May 6, 2000, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.
He was born Aug. 16, 1928, at Larned, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Prosser Beran. A longtime Odin resident, he was a farmer and stockman and was the former owner of the Odin Store.
He belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 2630 and was a church choir member, all at Odin, the American Legion, Great Bend, and played professional baseball with the Dodgers and Pittsburg Pirates organization from 1946 to 1953. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include: three brothers, Gerald, Odin, Lee, Emporia, and Tony, Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Vi Dice, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alice Dolechek, Claflin; 16 nephews and nieces; and 26 great-nephews and -nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Bob.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at the funeral home. Elizabeth Elora Marine
DODGE CITY - Elizabeth Elora Marine, 85, died May 6, 2000, at Manor of the Plains Nursing Home, Dodge City.
She was born July 30, 1914, at Winfield, the daughter of Oscar Owen and Nancy Ella Vandruff Burdette. She graduated from high school at Huntington Beach, Calif., attended college in Texas and received her teaching degree from Southwestern College, Winfield. A Dodge City resident since 1995, formerly of Ponca City, Okla., Colorado, California and Copeland, she was a teacher at Goddard, Bloom, Copeland and Montezuma.
She belonged to Copeland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Friday Afternoon Club and was a 53-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, all at Copeland, was a member of Senior Friends and SKAVI, both at Dodge City, Pride of Life Senior Center, Sublette, and the Kansas Retired Teachers Association.
On Nov. 1, 1940, she married
Donald R. Marine at Bartlesville, Okla. He died Nov. 29, 1986.
Survivors include: a son, Stan, Copeland; a daughter, Nancy Burch, Holcomb; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Allen; a brother; and a sister.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Copeland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerald presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Hildred Aileen 'Hid' Smith
DODGE CITY - Hildred Aileen "Hid" Smith, 75, died May 6, 2000, at her home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1925, at Wichita, the daughter of Albert and Mary Davenport Sagerty. She was a 1943 graduate of Wichita East High School. A longtime Dodge City resident, she was a homemaker and taught exercise classes through the Dodge City Recreation Commission and the Dodge City Senior Center.
She was a board member of the Dodge City Senior Center and belonged to the Dodge City Women's Chamber of Commerce, Legislative Wives, the Democratic Women's Federation and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She married
Dr. Glenn Shipe. On Dec. 29, 1976, she married
Don C. Smith at Dodge City. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Greg Shipe, Lawrence, John Shipe, Branson, Mo., and Doug and Danny Shipe, both of Dodge City; two daughters, Rita Brychta and Cindy Bartlett, both of Manhattan; a stepson, Don Smith Jr., Denver; two stepdaughters, Kim Clark and Sarah Henson, both of Wamego; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Ben F. Penner
NEWTON - Ben F. Penner, 79, died May 6, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita.
He was born June 30, 1920, in Pleasant Township, the son of Abraham J. and Elisabeth Gaede Penner. He was a carpenter and sheet rocker and later was the owner and operator of ABC Pest Control for 27 years before retiring.
He belonged to Grace Hill Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater.
On Feb. 1, 1948, he married
Clara Unruh at Newton. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Monica Sue Lichti, Newton; two brothers, John, Newton, and Carl, Peabody; two sisters, Zella Brown, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Hulda Wright, Bullhead City, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland; and four sisters, Sidonia Sheridan, Selma McCury, Sarah Logan and Orpha Swift.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater, with Pastor Jim Voth presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
