Merlyn Koland
Merlyn Wayne George Koland, 79, formerly of Chapman, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, Va.
He was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Strandquist, Minn., the son of George Theo and Minnie M. (Lofstrom) Koland. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He resided in the Minnesota area for many years and recently moved to Christianburg, Va.
Graveside services and inurnment will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Indian Hill Cemetery, Chapman, the Rev. Kenneth Trickle Jr. officiating. The Chapman American Legion Post No. 240 will provide the color guard and firing squad.

Mildred A. Pray
Mildred A. Pray, 87, Salina, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, in the CLC Nursing Home, Salina.
She was born April 21, 1913, near Hope, the daughter of Charles A. and Augusta V. (Dillon) Pray. She grew up in the community and attended local schools. She graduated from Hope High School and McPherson College, McPherson. She received a doctorate in education from the University of Colorado. She had been a resident of the CLC Nursing Home for the past four years.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, the Rev. Robert Frasier officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery.
Visitation will be until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope-Community-Education Endowment Association, Inc. and left at the funeral home.
Scott Gregory Weigant
TOPEKA--Scott Weigant, infant son of Donald Scott and Des-A-Rae LeNae Armstrong Weigant, Topeka, was stillborn Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.
Mark and Lisa Armstrong, Solomon, are grandparents, and Jim and Nancy Armstrong, Herington, are great-grandparents.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Relatives and friends will meet at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 S.W. Sixth, Topeka, prior to the services.
Una K. Christner
HERINGTON--Una Christner, 91, Herington, formerly of Delavan died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Lutheran Home, Herington.
She was born June 6, 1909, at Burdick, the daughter of Axel and Alma (Hovander) Borell. She taught school after graduating from high school.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at the Wilsey United Methodist Church, the Rev. Mark Stuckey officiating. Burial will be in Lost Springs Cemetery, Lost Springs.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brockmeier Funeral Chapel, 112 South Broadway, Herington, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Harry Eddy
WICHITA--Harry "Les" Eddy, 79, Wichita, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Wichita.
Norma Eddy Larson, Abilene, is a daughter.
He was born April 25, 1921, in Topeka, the son of Lois Shorthill and Benjamin Harrison Eddy. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School, and he earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in May 1942. He earned a juris doctorate from the Washburn University Law School in 1947.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at College Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka. Hillside Funeral Home East, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.

MT. VERNON, Ill.--Eula M. Jines, 86, Mt. Vernon, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Mt. Vernon Care Center.
Betty Johnson, Abilene, is a daughter.
She was born Aug. 3, 1914, in Jefferson County, Ill., the daughter of Alva Elliston and Hattie (Hamlin) Elliston. She was married to John Arthur Jines on Feb. 14, 1931, in Jefferson County, Ill.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 16, 2000, at Hughey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, Ill., with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.

CLAY CENTER--Anna Ingrum, 95, Clay Center, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Medicalodge, Clay Center.
She was born Aug. 24, 1905, in Ellis, Neb., the daughter of Philip and Wilhelmina (Arndt) Suden. She moved to Clay County as a child and was raised in the Clay Center area.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Christian Church in Clay Center, with Pastor Doug Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center.

Betty Ann Youse
SALINA--Betty Ann Youse, 74, Salina, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina.
Dawn Shivers of Abilene is a daughter.
She was born Betty Ann Mauk March 17, 1926, in Concordia. She had been a resident of Salina since 1984.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, the Rev. Glenn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.
Visitation will be before the service on Sunday at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Paul O. Harrold, 82, Abilene, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Abilene.
He was born Feb. 3, 1918, near Beaver City, Neb., the son of Pearl and Mabel (Goodwin) Harrold. He grew up in the community and attended local schools. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

Adrian L. Smith, 47, Lincoln, Neb., former Abilene resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Lincoln, Neb.
She was born Nov. 30, 1952, at Gardner, the daughter of Arthur and Helen Peters. She grew up in Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School. She was also a graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the the Brethren in Christ Church, 1005 N. Buckeye, the Rev. Ken Engle officiating. Burial will be in Newbern Cemetery, south of Abilene.

Alzora Rogers
Alzora Rogers, 97, Shawnee, former Abilene resident, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home, Shawnee.
She was born May 5, 1903, at Stillwater, Okla., the daughter of William and Lottie (Barr) Wright. She moved south of Solomon in Dickinson County as a child. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1923. She was also a graduate of Salt City Business College, Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church, 601 N. Cedar, the Rev. Gary Armour officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene.

Bonifacio Sarmiento
HERINGTON -- Bonifacio "Barney" Sarmiento Jr., 93, Herington, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 5, 1907, at Macaene, Zacatecas, Mexico, the son of Bonifacio Sr. and Juana Sarmiento. He was raised in Laredo, Texas, and moved to Herington in 1920.
Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Herington. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
A wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, Herington, where Mr. Sarmiento will lie in state from 1 to 7 p.m. today.
The family suggests memorials to St. John's Catholic Church, Herington. They may be sent in care of Donahue Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington 67449-3038.
Edward L. Unruh
Edward L. Unruh, 56, Olathe, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe.
He was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Hillsboro, the son of Edward and Edith R. (Jeffers) Unruh. He attended the local schools in Tampa, moving to Abilene with his parents in 1961. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1962. He graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in business. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church, 601 N. Cedar, the Rev. Rick Saylor officiating. Burial will be in the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.
Visitation will be at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service.
