DODGE CITY - Araya Ann Hawkins, four-day-old daughter of Dan and Donna Hodges Hawkins, died May 8, 2000, at her home in Dodge City.
She was born May 4, 2000, at Dodge City.
Survivors include: parents, of the home; three sisters, Erin, Jacquelin and Samantha Hawkins, all of the home; grandparents, Lee Bowden, Taft, Calif., and Terry and Vivian Hodges, Dodge City; and great-grandparents, Frank and Amy Parker, Derby Acres, Calif.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with the Rev. Jim Hossler presiding.

Doris L. Miller
GARDEN CITY - Doris L. Miller, 80, died May 7, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City.
She was born June 17, 1919, in Gray County, the daughter of Joseph S. and Ada M. Hungate Lupton. She was a 1944 graduate of Kansas State University, earning her dietitian's degree and she served as an intern at Montifiore Hospital, New York City. A Garden City resident, she was a registered dietitian and worked at Baylor Hospital, Dallas, Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, Milwaukee, retiring in 1978
She belonged to Cimarron United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the alumni organizations of Kansas State University.
On June 8, 1953, she married
Cecil L. Miller at Dodge City. He survives.
Other survivors include: a sister, Catherine T. Davis, Garden City; two nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Vida Lupton.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cimarron United Methodist Church, with Dr. Dan Ferguson presiding. Friends may call from noon to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the church or to the Kansas State Scholarship Fund, both in care of Burkharts Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
Walter A. Gish
CHENEY - Walter A. Gish, 86, died May 7, 2000, at his home in Cheney.
He was born March 4, 1914, at Alexander. A Cheney resident, he was a retired correctional officer at Hutchinson Correctional Facility.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II.
On July 24, 1939, he married
Doris Mae Holder at Winfield. She died May 4, 1996.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard A. Gish, Cheney, and Donald Lorenz, Kingston, Okla.; two daughters, Wanda Meyer, Cheney, and Mary Lawson, Hutchinson; a brother, Bob, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; three sisters, Elsie Crupper, Hutchinson, and Arlene Gaines and Pat Hacker, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Jr.; and two sisters, Madge Wickendoll and Fern Hart.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Waterloo Cemetery, with Pastor Kenneth Kaufmann presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Lanterman Funeral Home, Cheney.

Mary Anne Spangler
LAWRENCE - Mary Anne Spangler, 64, died May 8, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 2, 1936, at Halstead, the daughter of Ora Guy and Marian Emily Challans Spangler. She was a 1953 graduate of Hutchinson High School, received a master's degree from Wichita State University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in education from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She was an elementary school teacher at Hutchinson, Topeka, Madison, Wis., and Baltimore. She also taught in the School of Education at the University of Kansas, worked for the Kansas State Department of Public Instruction, Topeka, and as an elementary curriculum consultant.
Survivors include: a sister, Jean Spangler Dutcher, Oshkosh, Wis.; two nephews; a niece; and a grandnephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Halstead Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Allen Polen presiding. Cremation took place. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence.
Duane Lee Spangler
HESSTON - Duane Lee Spangler, 60, died May 7, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born May 16, 1939, at Newton, the son of Louis and Marie Inghram Spangler. A Hesston resident, he was a self-employed certified public accountant.
He belonged to Salem United Methodist Church, Newton.
On Nov. 21, 1959, he married
Betty Conner at Ellinwood. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jeff, Andover, and Kevin, Wichita; mother, Newton; a sister, Jeanie Spangler, Wichita; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church, Newton, with the Rev. C. Kent Rogers presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Vera V. Hohl
SALINA - Vera V. Hohl, 91, died May 7, 2000, at Salina Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1908, at Crawford, the daughter of Edward and Ruth Morrow. A Salina resident since 1978, formerly of Marquette, she was a former nurse's aide at Lindsborg Hospital.
She was of the Methodist faith.
In 1926, she married
Stanley H. Hohl. He died Aug. 27, 1964.
Survivors include: two sons, Royal, Salina, and Russell, Gypsum; a daughter, Norma White, Fort Pierce, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Cremation took place. Burial will be in Marquette Cemetery.

Andrew E. Larson Sr.
GARDEN CITY - Andrew E. Larson Sr., 91, died May 7, 2000, at his home in Finney County.
He was born June 10, 1908, at Enid, Okla., the son of Andrew E. and Albertha N. Cook Larson. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Oklahoma University. A Garden City resident since 1941, moving from Blackwell, Okla., he was a farmer in Gray, Ford and Finney counties.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Garden City, Alpha Kappa Psi Business School Fraternity, Oklahoma, was a member and past president of Hearthstone Sunday School class, belonged to the Oklahoma University Alumni Association, Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners Association, Southwest Kansas Irrigators Association and the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers. He was a camp commander for the Civilian Conservation Corps, Blackwell, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Oct. 1, 1933, he married
Jean M. Thompson at Oklahoma City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Andrew Larson Jr., Garden City; a daughter, Karin M. Henkle, Garden City; six grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a son, a brother, four sisters and a grandson.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Catherine Marian Knott
PLAINS - Catherine Marian Knott, 89, died May 7, 2000, at Minneola Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 11, 1910, at Offerle, the daughter of John Francis and May Ann Kisner Hinds. She graduated from Plains High School in 1928. A Plains-area resident since 1920, she was a homemaker and retired teacher. She was a retired office manager for Holmes Implement & Elevator and Dr. W.W. Orrison. She also owned and operated Marian's Paint & Hobby Shop, Plains.
She belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Plains Alumni Association, all at Plains, and the Kansas State Teachers Association.
On Aug. 5, 1929, she married
David Glenn Clark. He died in 1984. On July 23, 1978, she married
John V. "Jack" Knott at Plains. He died Sept. 9, 1996.
Survivors include: a daughter, Elsie E. Cottrell, Meade; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis LeRoyal "Lee" Hinds; and a granddaughter.
Vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Plains, with Fathers Zino Ye Swe and Leonard Stegman presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery.

Bonnie Avis Stoops
HUGOTON - Bonnie Avis Stoops, 84, died May 6, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
She was born Nov. 7, 1915, at Smith Canyon, Colo., the daughter of Monte Lodi and Jessie Grover Brandon Cook. A Stevens County resident for 70 years, she was a homemaker and farmer.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Hugoton, and was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
On Sept. 9, 1932, she married
Merle Allen Stoops at Johnson City. He died June 14, 1995.
Survivors include: a son, Jack, Hugoton; a daughter, Allene Hathaway, Olathe; two sisters, Mickie Powell and Dickie Griffin, both of Sublette; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, LaJuana Ward and Deann Suddeth; a brother, Donald Clark; and two grandsons.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
