Emilio Joe Arellano
GARDEN CITY - Emilio Joe Arellano, 84, died May 15, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
He was born March 6, 1916, at Garden City, the son of Jose and Dolores Fierra Arellano. A lifetime Garden City resident, he attended Garden City schools and worked for 36 years for Fansler Tire Co., and then for another 12 years at Palmer Tank Manufacturing.
He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City, and was a former member of the Latin America Club, the G.I. Forum and the Knights of Columbus.
On Aug. 15, 1939, he married
Andrea Hernandez at Garden City. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Robert and John, both of Garden City, five daughters, Patricia DeLaRosa, Vickie Marroquin and Mary Martinez, all of Garden City, Midge Encinias, Holcomb, and Dolores Gonzalez, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Carmen Godinez, Garden City; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City, with rosary following. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Nina M. Stone
KINSLEY - Nina M. Stone, 88, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Goddard. She was born April 16, 1912, at Mullinville, the daughter of David M. and Carrie M. Hensley Price. She attended school at Alden.
A Kinsley resident, formerly of Alden, Raymond and Albert, she was a homemaker and retired clerk at Duckwalls.
On May 23, 1929, she married
George C. Stone at Dodge City. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three sons, John, Wichita, David, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Jim, Frederick, Md.; a brother, Ray Price, Alden; a sister, Ola Long, Sylvia; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Carroll and Bob; and a daughter Kathryn Hackler.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Alden Valley Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita.

L. Esther White
HESSTON - L. Esther White, 81, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.
She was born Oct. 14, 1919, at Manchester, Okla., the daughter of Samuel and Mary Horst Kuhns. She graduated from Partridge High School and received teachers training at Hesston College. In 1948, she graduated from the Mennonite School of Nursing, La Junta, Colo., and in 1953 graduated from the University of Washington where she majored in public health nursing. A Hesston resident since 1996, moving from Peabody, she taught in rural schools for four years, worked in the public-health field until 1962, when she served as a nurse in India for the Brethren Assemblies, and was later a school nurse.
On April 16, 1983, she married
Allen White at India. He survives.
Other survivors include: five stepsons, Donald White, Chevy Chase, Mo., Ivan White, Hesston, Roger and Virgil White, both of Newton, and Darwin White, Pikeville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Colleen Hoffman, Elkhart, Ind.; three brothers, Paul Kuhns, Garden City, Mo., Stanley Kuhns, Goshen, Ind., and Mahlon Kuhns, Girard; 16 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Kuhns; and two sisters Ruth Oien and Magdalene Shirk.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Catlin Community Cemetery, rural Peabody. Memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston, with the Rev. Louise Wideman presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, all at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.

Anna Elizabeth Reif
BEAVER - Anna Elizabeth Reif, 95, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Girard.
She was born Dec. 27, 1904, at Beaver, the daughter of Jacob and Mary Meyeres Depiesse. A longtime resident of the Beaver and Iuka communities, moving to Cherokee and Girard, she was a nurse's aide and cook at Pratt Nursing Home.
She belonged to St. Anastasia's Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both at Cherokee, was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society, Beaver, and was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, Pratt.
On April 26, 1933, she married
Louis E. Reif at Kansas City, Kan. He died Jan. 2, 1984.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert L. and Marvin D., both of Wichita, and Julius H., Cherokee; five sisters, Dale Schremmer and Jean Polzin, both of Hoisington, Margaret Elston, Lyons, and Sidonia Bartlett and Elsie Hinkley, both of Lakeside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jake, John, Lawrence, Arthur, Earl and Richard; three sisters, Viola Depiesse, Marian Kuxhouse and Georgia Hildreth; and a great-grandson.

FOWLER - Emerson Stanley Miller, 85, died Sept. 29, 2000, at Fowler.

Robert Sanford Cornish
NEWTON - Robert Sanford Cornish, 93, died Oct. 15, 2000, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born Nov. 21, 1906, at Muskogee, Okla., the son of Clinton and Laura Williams Cornish. A longtime Tulsa, Okla., resident, formerly of Newton, he was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he had been a railway mail clerk and a post office clerk.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Blue Lodge, Petroleum Lodge No. 474 AF & AM, the Tulsa Consistory 32nd degree, Scottish Rite, Shrine AKDR Temple, Order of the Amaranth, The Will Clark Tulsa Court No. 7, and Order of the Eastern Star Brookside No. 510, all at Tulsa.
On April 2, 1933, he married
Rosie L. Whiteside at Sapulpa, Okla. She died April 4, 1992.
Survivors include: three daughters, Merlyn R. Buss, Hutchinson, Laurella V. Kerr, Sonora, Calif., and Rosalea A. Sudlow, Tulsa; two brothers, Tommy M. Cornish, Houston, and Billy Cornish, McAlester, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Amasa; and a sister Virgie Swindell.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at Van Campen Funeral Home Chapel, Haven. Inurnment service will be in Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Okla., at a later date.

Lloyd Ray Ellison
PRESTON - Lloyd Ray Ellison, 80, died Oct. 15, 2000, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1919, at rural Preston, the son of Ernest Ray and Helen Reynolds Ellison. He graduated from Preston High School in 1930. A lifetime Preston resident, he was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator for the Pratt County Road Department.
He belonged to Preston United Methodist Church, Modern Woodmen of America, Preston Senior Citizens, and was a past board member of the church, senior citizens and Pratt Historical Society.
On April 6, 1941, he married
Glenda Shumway at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Michael, Fruitland, Md., and David, Preston; three daughters, Janet Van Buskirk, Towanda, and Kristi Palone and Cathy Krueger, both of Wichita; a brother, Henry C. Ellison, Riverdale, Md.; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, with the Rev. Kendal Utt presiding. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Preston.

Menno Dirksen
GOESSEL - Menno Dirksen, 101, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Bethesda Home, Goessel.
He was born July 14, 1899, at Goessel, the son of Peter H. and Aganetha Krause Dirksen. A Newton resident since 1967, living most of his life on a farm between Goessel and Moundridge, he was a retired farmer.
He was a charter member of Goessel Mennonite Church.
On Oct. 4, 1924, he married
Edna Epp. She died in 1977.
Survivors include: two sons, Kermit, Marion, and Larry, San Diego; two daughters, Geneva Bartel, Hillsboro, and Jolene Dirksen, North Newton; a brother, Roland, Moundridge; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Goessel Mennonite Church, with Pastor Kevin Goertzen presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Goessel. The casket will remain closed. Private family burial service will be in the church cemetery.

Ethel P. Tecklenburg
SCOTT CITY - Ethel P. Tecklenburg, 89, died Oct. 15, 2000, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
She was born Jan. 3, 1911, in Ness County, the daughter of Edward J. and Sarah Ann Butler Ruffhead. She was a graduate of Ness City High School. A longtime Scott City resident, she was a chemist's assistant at Shallow Water Refinery, Garden City, and had been a telephone operator in Ness City and a linotype operator.
She belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Scott City.
On May 27, 1944, she married
Joseph A. Tecklenburg at Garden City. He died April 2, 1974.
Survivors include: a son, George, Scott City; a daughter, Sara A. Goodman, Scott City; two nieces; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Michael; and a brother, Edward Ruffhead.

Lorene Marie Prather Eby
NEWTON - Lorene Marie Prather Eby, 81, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Newton Medical Center.
She was born May 19, 1919, in rural Newton, the daughter of John E. and Anna Harvey Prather. She was a homemaker and a former rural school teacher at Gingrass School for a year and at Stone School for two years, both at rural Newton.
She belonged to First United Presbyterian Church, Newton, where she was a deacon and elder, the Cruisers Organization and the Anna Helen Circle, both of the church. She was also a member of the Thursday Morning Coffee Club.
On Oct. 11, 1940, she married
Olin H. Eby at Newton. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Richard, Overland Park, and Don, Olathe; a sister, Barbara DuBois, Newton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Dreier.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Presbyterian Church, Newton, with the Rev. James Anderson presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
