Paul Johnston
DODGE CITY - Paul Johnston, 79, died June 19, 2000 at Western Plains Regional Hospital, Dodge City.
He was born Jan. 26, 1921, at Wichita, the son of John Paul and Ruth Riley Johnston. He was a graduate of Wichita East High School. A Dodge City resident since 1946, he started Dodge City Rendering Co., was the owner and operator of High Plains Hatchery, and a salesman for B-J Manufacturing Co., all at Dodge City.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Dodge City. He served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps during World War II.
On July 17, 1942, he married
Bernice R. Smith at Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, John P. III, League City, Texas; three daughters, Karen Prosuch, Colorado Springs, Colo., Sally Johnston, Indianapolis, Ind., and Jean Kolsky, Dodge City; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with the Rev. David S. Clipson presiding. Military graveside rites will be performed by Howard Gotschall Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1714.

Viola 'Vi' Scott
BURRTON - Viola "Vi" Scott, 79, died June 17, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born, Nov. 25, 1920, at Caldwell, the daughter of William and Edna Struble Vaughan. A Burrton resident, she worked for Boeing, The International Association of Machinists, Beechcraft, and in recent years at the State Bank of Burrton.
On July 25, 1937, she married
Lester David Snyder. On Nov. 2, 1966, she married
Gilbert Scott.
Survivors include: two daughters, Rosetta Durner, Burrton, and Karen McCoskey, Sedgwick; two brothers, Robert Vaughan, Springdale, Ark., and Norman Vaughan, Morrison, Colo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William.
There will be a private family inurnment in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Hillside Funeral Home, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.

Olga Elnadine Balzer
LARNED - Olga Elnadine Balzer, 60, died June 17, 2000, at Broken Arrow, Okla.
She was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Texas County near Hooker, the daughter of Jacob F. and Olga B. Friesen Balzer. She attended Adams schools, graduated from Adams High School, and received a bachelor's degree in English at Tabor College. A Larned resident, she started her teaching career at Lustre Bible Academy, Lustre, Mont., and taught at Larned High School for 34 years, retiring in August 1999.
She belonged to Adams Mennonite Brethren Church, kept score for high school sports and was a sponsor of the cheerleaders at Larned High School.
Survivors include: four brothers, Joelle, Prairieville, La., Ronald, Broken Arrow, Okla., Howard, Buhler, and Ted, McPherson; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Donald Dean Balzer.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Mennonite Brethren Church, Adams, Okla., with the Rev. Frank Huebert presiding. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Larned, with the Rev. Charles Grant presiding. Burial will be in Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, near Adams.

Shelby M. Reed
PARSONS - Shelby M. Reed, 73, died June 17, 2000, at Labette County Medical Center, Parsons.
He was born July 2, 1926, at Galesburg, the son of Qunicy D. and Myrtle Jones Reed. He was a 1943 graduate of Galesburg High School and attended Parsons Business College. A Parsons resident since 1980, he was a planning engineer for the Kansas Ordinance Plant, Parsons, and was secretary to the shop superintendent with the M-K-T Railroad. He operated a general insurance agency and tax accounting business at Galesburg from 1957 until his retirement in 1978.
He belonged to Church of the Brethren, the Galesburg United Methodist Church, the Disabled American Veterans and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Dec. 17, 1948, he married
Audrey Gaddis at Parsons. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Randy, Topeka, Douglas Q., Galesburg, Gary M., Joplin, Mo., and Kelly E., Buhler; a daughter, Kathryn Gard, Parsons.; three brothers, Seth V., West Palm Beach, Fla.; Robert Q., Parsons, and Melvin R., Otto, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren;
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Herold; and a sister, Velma Reed.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons, with the Revs. Kathleen Ketchell Ferris and Jan Hayen presiding. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Galesburg.

Anthony J. 'Ike' Eisenhauer Jr.
MT. HOPE - Anthony J. "Ike" Eisenhauer Jr., 80, died June 15, 2000, at Mt. Hope.
He was born Feb. 21, 1920, at Council Grove, the son of Anthony Joseph "A.J." Sr. and Hazel Eisenhauer. He attended school in Bushong. He was retired from Shamrock Tire after 15 years of sales and delivering tires to southeast and southwest Kansas. He also farmed and raised palomino and quarter horses.
He belonged to Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Sod-Busters Camping Club and the Mt. Hope Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
On Nov. 27, 1957, he married
Bernice Aleen Dick at Mt. Hope. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Larry and Joe; two daughters, Linda Lewellen and husband Kenny, Wichita, and Leigh Ann Bauer and husband Gene, Yukon, Okla.; four sisters, Zelda Blair, Emporia, Ruth Young, Doris Franklin and Sharon Holcolm, all of Salina; a brother, Harry, Lamar, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Evan, Brittany and Jordan Perriman, all of Mt. Hope, Austin Lewellen, Wichita, and Gena, MacKenzie and Megan Bauer, all of Yukon; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Mt. Hope, with Pastor Bob Gleason presiding. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

COPELAND - Frank Morris Baker, 75, died June 17, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, San Francisco, Calif.

Jean Corser
INMAN - Jean Corser, 75, died June 17, 2000, at Inman.
She was born Oct. 21, 1924, at Concordia, the daughter of Roy A. and Mary C. Iverson Johnston. She was a homemaker.
She married
Dilbert M. Corser. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim Emler, Emporia, and Steve Corser, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a daughter, P.J. McCool, Inman; a sister, Elinor Park, Albany, Ore.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.
Pappy Chapman
LIBERAL - Pappy Chapman, 27, died June 17, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
He was born Sept. 15, 1972, at Clinton, Okla., the son of Lupe Montoya and Barbara Chapman. A longtime Liberal resident, he was an oil-field worker.
Survivors include: a daughter, Alexis Chapman, Liberal; his father and stepmother, Lupe and Holly Montoya, Farmington, N.M.; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and James Beason, Johnson; two sisters, Nacole Martinez, Liberal, and Jessie Martinez, Johnson; and grandparents, Frank and Jennie Montoya.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Mildred Chapman.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch Funeral Home, Liberal, with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Kirk Alan Hecox
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Kirk Alan Hecox, 41, died June 15, 2000, at Pittsburg.
He was born April 17, 1959, at Liberal, the son of Raymond and Pauline Mason Hecox. He was a 1977 Liberal High School graduate. A longtime Liberal resident, moving to Pittsburgh, he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include: his father, Liberal; a sister, Carol Jayne, Kingman; two nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
There will be no services at this time. Cremation has taken place.

Earl L. Koontz
NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Earl L. Koontz, 73, died June 17, 2000, at his home.
A Reno County native, he was a retired teacher.
He belonged to Branham Tabernacle, Jeffersonville, Ind.
He married
Rosalind Mead. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Elizabeth Lindsey, New Albany, Joanna Eichenberg, Baldwin, Mich., and Carol Perkins, Pasco, Wash.; a brother, Paul, Arlington; two sisters, Eunice Pankow, Chesapeake, Va., and Orlene Graves, Sedalia, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Diechmann & Naville Funeral Home, New Albany. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany.
