ULYSSES - Maria A. Perez, 76, died June 20, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis, Wichita.
She was born Dec. 16, 1923, at Tina, Texas, the daughter of Jesus and Eristea Soto Adamez. She was a Ulysses resident since 1965, moving from Hollis, Okla.
She belonged to Mary Queen of Peace Church, Ulysses.
She married
Locario "Lucky" Perez, at Beeville, Texas, Aug. 28, 1948. He survives.
Other survivors include: six sons, Richard, Robert, Raul, Rudy, Ramiro, all of Ulysses, Ruben, Liberal; three daughters, Yolanda Gonzalez, Dora Garza, both of Ulysses, Viola Bronson, Boyton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Nick Adamez, Corpus Christi, Texas, Ted Adamez, Beeville, Texas; two sisters, Trinidad Zambrano, Gregory, Texas, Bernarda Garcia, Beeville, Texas; 26 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Ulysses, with Father John Kowal presiding. Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the church, with Father John Kowal presiding. Friends may call 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, both at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses.
J. Marie Kenyon
SCOTT CITY - J. Marie Kenyon, 94, died June 19, 2000, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
She was born Sept. 25, 1905, in Rich Hill, Mo., the daughter of J.C. "Claude" and Maude Hancock Wood. A resident of Scott City since 1916, moving from Rich Hill, she was a former school teacher, and later owned and operated the Kenyon Beauty Shop for 53 years, retiring in 1982.
She belonged to First Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship, Chorus Chapter No. 259, and the Order of Eastern Star, serving as a past worthy matron and past district aide, the M & M Club, the Study and Social Club and the VFW Auxiliary, all at Scott City.
She was a charter member of the Western Kansas Cosmetology Association, and belonged to the William Wilson Chapter of the D.A.R. at Garden City.
On March 29, 1925, she married
Thomas Kenyon at Sharon Springs. He died July 27, 1964.
Survivors include: a son, Larry, San Diego; a brother, Teddy G. Wood, Cherryvale; a sister, Norma Stopher, Collinsville, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Francis and Tom Kenyon; a stepdaughter, Oliva Evans; and four brothers, Arnold, Dr. Thomas, Myron and Clyde.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Max A. Wineinger
NORWICH - Max A. Wineinger, 63, died June 20, 2000, at Harper Hospital, Harper.
He was born Aug. 15, 1936, at Norwich, the son of Walter Earl and Lillian Blumanhourst Wineinger. He was a 1954 graduate of Norwich High School. He was in the U.S. Air Force reserves, and served as a firefighter for many years, farmer and stockman, and a bus driver for the Norwich schools from 1957-1970.
He belonged to First Christian Church, Norwich, the Wichita Consistory, the Midian Shrine, served as Ringmaster for Kingman County Shrine Club, and former member of the Norwich Lodge No. 319, and I.O.O.F. Lodge, Norwich.
On July 31, 1955, he married
Virginia Lee Fuller, at Norwich. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, J.R. Miller, Wichita, Andy Wineinger; two daughters, Teresa Hibbs, Sandra Hefley; a sister, Fern Davis, all of Norwich; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold, and Earl.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, Norwich, with the Revs. Jim Plater and Phil Ashley presiding. Burial will be in Upchurch Cemetery, Norwich.
Memorials may be sent to the Norwich EMS or to the Norwich Fire Department, both in care of Ebersole Mortuary, Conway Springs.
Helen K. Burris
LARNED - Helen K. Burris, 91, died June 20, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Larned.
She was born March 5, 1909, at Boicort, the daughter of James and Lena McCabe Main. A Larned resident since 1942, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, Larned.
On Feb. 28, 1925, she married
Vern Burris at Iola. He died July 3, 1982.
Survivors include: four sons, Earl, Nickerson, John, Wichita, Larry and Frank, both Larned; four daughters, Marjorie Bruce, Gentry, Ark., Joan Dunlap, Kincaid, Florence Hall, Rockaway Beach, Mo., and Joyce Salmans, Elkhorn, Nev.; a brother, Ralph, Villa Park, Ill.; two sisters, Wilma Whitcomb, Iola, and Ruth Whitcomb, Kincaid; 26 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with the Rev. Jerry Leever presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday, and until service time Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Kincaid Cemetery.

Brian E. Zeretzke
GREAT BEND - Brian E. Zeretzke, 37, died June 19, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose, Great Bend.
He was born May 27, 1963, at Bottineau, N.D., the son of Edwin C. and Frances K. McLachlan Zeretzke. A resident of Great Bend since 1984, he was a surveyor for Central Kansas Survey and Mapping, Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and was enlisted in the Army Reserves, Great Bend. He was first sergeant of the 443D Transportation Company, Great Bend.
He belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, and the American Legion, both at Great Bend.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael E., Aaron R., both of Great Bend; parents, Upham, N.D.; brother, Bruce, Deering, N.D.; and sister Nancy Parisien, Belcourt, N.D.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. today, at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, Great Bend, with the Rev. Bob La Pierre presiding. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Lutheran Church, Upham, N.D. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, Upham, N.D.

Leonard W. Pogue
WICHITA - Leonard W. Pogue, 85, former Wichita resident, died June 20, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was a former Boeing electrician and Kansas Rambler band member.
Survivors include: two sons, Dean, Hutchinson, and Dennis, Haven; three daughters, Carol Williams, Hutchinson, Joyce Cusick, Hayden, Colo., and Janice Wheatley, Plano, Texas; a sister, Helen Miles, Stella, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.
Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army.

Arlan Edwin Mitchell
CHEROKEE, Okla. - Arlan Edwin Mitchell, 79, former Stafford resident, died June 15, 2000, at his home in Cherokee.
He was born July 27, 1920, at Green Valley, near Carmen, Okla., the son of Clydus Edwin and Pearl Keffer Mitchell. He attended Oklahoma schools, graduated high school from Central Academy and College, and attended Central College at McPherson. A resident of Stafford for 26 years, he was employed by Truck-Trailer Supply Co. Inc. and Crown Leasing. In 1968, he went to work for Farmland Industries, retiring in 1984. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1985.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
On Oct. 30, 1942, he married
Zetta Pauline Taylor at Wichita Falls, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Allan E., Cherokee, and Stephen D., Wichita; a daughter, Karen K. Davis, Oklahoma City; a sister, Mary C. Mitchell, McPherson; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Saturday in Cherokee, with military burial in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery.

Charles Scott Clowers
ST. JOHN - Charles Scott Clowers, 76, died June 20, 2000, at Terrace Gardens, Wichita.
He was born July 3, 1923 and was a lifetime resident of St. John moving to Wichita in 1988. He worked as a rural mail carrier, past owner of Scott Clowers Ins. Agency, caretaker of Fairview Park Cemetery, all at St. John. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II Veteran.
He belonged to United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, both at St. John, and the American Legion, Great Bend.
On Feb. 7, 1942, he married
Anna Dorothy Green, at St. John. She survives.
Other survivors include: daughter, Linda Lou Broadfoot, Wichita; brother, Ed, Broomfield; sister, Ramona England, Hutchinson; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death bya daughter, Dianna Kay Clowers; a brother, Bud; and a sister, Velma Davis.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers presiding.
