Peter A. Wittman
GARDEN CITY - Peter A. Wittman, 92, died March 24, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 29, 1907, at Victoria, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Kreutzer Wittman. He graduated from Park High School and attended business college. A Garden City resident since 1958, he was an accountant and office manager with Garden City Sale Co. Inc., for 26 years.
He belonged to St. Dominic's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Sunrisers Kiwanis Club, and the Harry H. Renick American Legion Post No. 9. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Aug. 11, 1946, he married
Frances M. Heydman at Enid, Okla. She died Jan. 11, 1996.
Survivors include: two sons, Anthony, Olathe, and Joseph, Topeka; and seven grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, with Father Joseph Bahr presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or to Special Olympics, both in care of the funeral home.
Robert M. Eisele
SUBLETTE - Robert M. Eisele, 85, died March 27, 2000, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Laredo, Texas.
He was born Feb. 15, 1915, at Eudora, the son of Alfred and Emma Hornberger Eisele. He moved to Arizona in 1965 from Sublette. He moved to San Ygnacio, Texas, after retiring. He farmed in Sublette.
He belonged to Christian Church, Sublette, where he was deacon and elder for several years, and the King's Way Fellowship Church, Zapata, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On May 6, 1939, he married
Mary Lou Lucas at Paducah, Ky. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Hayward, Montrose, Colo.; a daughter, Roberta Trahern, Sublette; a brother, Clifford, Lenexa; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert.
Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at King's Way Fellowship Church, Zapata, Texas. Military graveside services by Sublette American Legion Post No. 205 will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with the Rev. Roger Miller presiding.
Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette, is in charge of arrangements.
Clinton E. Okeson
WESKAN - Clinton E. Okeson, 47, died March 24, 2000, at Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center, Tampa, Fla.
He was born May 20, 1952, at Goodland, the son of Kenneth A. and Evelyn Miller Okeson. He attended Weskan schools and graduated in 1970. He attended Garden City Community Junior College and graduated from Bethel College, Newton, with a bachelor's degree in industrial arts. A Weskan resident, he was previously employed as a draftsman for Excel Industries, Hesston, and currently was engaged in farming in Wallace County. He also served on the Volunteer Fire Department.
He belonged to the Sugar Hills Golf Club and was active in other community activities.
On Aug. 19, 1973, he married
Susie E. Williams. She survives.
Other survivors include: his father, Weskan; four brothers, Donald and Darrel, both of Weskan, Warren, Olathe, and David, Winfield; and 26 nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Sharon Springs, with Pastors Joanna Norris Grimshaw and Gerry Sharp presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Bateman Funeral Home, Sharon Springs, and prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Stockholm Cemetery.

EDNA - Florence Penner, 80, died March 25, 2000, at St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa, Okla., following a brief illness.

JOHNSON - Dwight Goodman, 75, died March 27, 2000, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson.

Robert Frank 'Bob' Helfrich
SYRACUSE - Robert Frank "Bob" Helfrich, 48, died March 26, 2000, as the result of injuries sustained in an auto accident in rural Coolidge.
He was born Aug. 13, 1951, at Syracuse, the son of Fred and Virginia H. Wilt Helfrich. He graduated from Coolidge High School in 1969, attended Fort Hays State University and graduated from Kansas State University in 1973. A lifetime Coolidge resident, he was a farmer, part owner of Coolidge Dairy and traded commodities.
He attended St. Raphael Catholic Church, Syracuse.
On Aug. 15, 1992, he married
Tish Huser at Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jesse and Nicholas, both of Syracuse; a daughter, Alexandra Helfrich, Syracuse; a brother, Dick, Coolidge; and two sisters, Nancy McBride, Holcomb, and Peggy Helfrich, Nashville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John "Jack;" and a sister, Judy Helfrich.

Christian D. 'Jim' Roper
NEWTON - Christian D. "Jim" Roper, 83, died June 23, 2000, at Friendly Acres Retired Community, Newton.
He was born Aug. 13, 1916, at Halstead, the son of Christian Jr. and Eula Dell Hunt Roper. He was a race car driver and a horse breeder and trainer.
He belonged to NASCAR, ICMA, and the National Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
Survivors include: three nephews, Jeff Roper, Salina, Donald Haury Jr., Halstead, and Rick Haury, Wamego; and three nieces, Ruth Alexander, Monica Flask and Kris Mueller, all of Halstead.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Gary Allen and Baby Roper Jr.; and a brother, Bob.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Halstead Cemetery, with Bill Mills presiding.

Florine 'Flo' Slief
WICHITA - Florine "Flo" Slief, 71, died June 24, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Oct. 26, 1928, at Pretty Prairie, the daughter of Benjamin S. and Frances Ratzlaff Wedel. A Wichita resident since 1954, moving from Hutchinson, she was a homemaker.
On Sept. 3, 1954, she married
Forrest A. Slief at Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gary, Pratt, and Roger, Elkhart; a sister, Leona Krehbiel, Pretty Prairie; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, with the Rev. Kendall Utt presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Burial will be in Haviland Cemetery.

ALVA, Okla. - Gladys L. Link, 78, died June 23, 2000, at Alva Share Medical Center, Alva.
She was born Dec. 26, 1921, at El Dorado, the daughter of Fred and Ivy Bell Pippig Neukirch. A longtime Alva resident, she was a seamstress, paperhanger, and a nurse aide at Share Convalescent Home.
Survivors include: five daughters, including Marilyn Johnson, Buhler; a brother; a sister; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva. Burial will be in Alva Municipal Cemetery.
