Junior Ellefson
BURRTON - Junior Ellefson, 59, died March 28, 2000, at his home in Burrton.
He was born Aug 1, 1940, at Anoka, Minn., the son of Lucille Ackerman. A Florida resident for most of his life, he had been a Burrton resident since 1990. He was an over-the-road driver for M. Bruenger.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 324 of Florida, and a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
On March 27, 1982, he married
Helen Castellano at Inglis, Fla. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Steve Ellefson, Snoqualmie, Wash., and Joseph, Roger and Bruce Cox, all of Florida; two daughters, Angela Kogler, Burrton, and Barbara Davis, Homosassa, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Lou Young, of Missouri, and Lucy Hanson and Lorretta Curtin, both of Minnesota; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral will be at graveside on Saturday, in Forrest Hills Cemetery, Anoka, Minn. There will be no guest book and no local services.

J.A. Giles Jr.
TYRONE, Okla. - J.A. Giles Jr., 64, died March 28, 2000, at Beaver County Nursing Home, Beaver, Okla.
He was born April 30, 1935, the son of Julius A. and Velma Antnett Greg Giles. A resident of Tyrone, Okla, formerly of Satanta, he was a manager of a service station.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include: a son, Steven, Fair Grove, Mo.; two daughters, Brenda Warren, Tyrone, Okla., and Karen Tharp, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Orval "Bud", Fort Worth, Texas, and Clyde, Satanta; four sisters, Margerie Hagerman, Ulysses, Mary V. Day, Liberal, Roberta Lewis, Montezuma, and Anita Brown, Sublette; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Aubra; and a sister, Jettie Lea Giles.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette.

Clara Shackelford
Clara Shackelford, 86, died March 29, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Esther E. Purdy
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - Esther E. Purdy, 82, died Mar. 24, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center, Laguna Hills, Calif.
She was born July 16, 1917, in Beaver County, Okla., the daughter of Thomas and Carrie Igo Frisby. She attended Sublette schools, and had been a resident of California since 1973. She was a homemaker.
On June 6, 1939, she married
Woodrow Wilson Purdy at Garden City. He died July 13, 1992.
Survivors include: seven sons, Roger, Las Vegas, Nev., Richard, Great Bend, Thomas, Lawrence, James and Greg, both of Mission Viejo, Alan "Barry", Oceanside, Calif., and Mark, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; three daughters, Cathryn and Linda Purdy, both of Mission Viejo, and Susan Purdy, Dana Point, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. David Sweley presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Russell Shellenberger
BELOIT - Russell Shellenberger, 94, died March 28, 2000, at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit.
He was born Sept. 11, 1905, at Boulder, Colo. A resident of Beloit since 1996, moving from Ransom, he was an independent insurance agent.
He belonged to Ransom United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, the Grissell Memorial Hospital Board, the Ness City Masonic Lodge, Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Kansas State University, and the Kansas Association of Independent Insurance Agents.
Survivors include: a daughter, Shari McKinnie, Glen Elder; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; and a son, Charles "Shelly."
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Glen Elder Christian Church, with Pastor Ryan Johnson presiding. Visitation will be at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ransom Cemetery.

Joseph James Setzer
Joseph James Setzer, 84, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 18, 1915, at Galveston, Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Setzer. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1933. A Hutchinson resident since 1927, he was a former linotype operator for Armour-Brown Publishing and later Roberts HutchLine, a company in which he had an interest. He retired in 1979.
He belonged to the former Redman Lodge at Hutchinson.
On Dec. 17, 1938, he married
Mary Rickard at Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jeffrey M., Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Dana Johnson, Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Frank; and a great-grandson.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Gary D. Getting presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Mary Joanna Romine
NEWTON - Mary Joanna Romine, 95, died Feb. 18, 2000, at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton.
She was born May 1, 1904, at Darlow, the daughter of William D. and Lena Belle Keedy Romine. She attended grade school at Cordell, Okla., and at Newton. She graduated from Newton High School, attended Bethel College and McPherson College, and graduated from the University of Wichita in 1928. She taught school for many years in Moundridge, Arkansas City, Inman and Dodge City and in Lahoma, Okla. She was the librarian at Newton High School until her retirement in 1967.
She belonged to Church of the Brethren, Newton.
Survivors include: two sisters, Prudence Price and Ruth Spangler, both of Newton; several cousins; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George; and her stepmother, Elizabeth Pierce Romine.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Church of the Brethren, Newton, with the Rev. Leah Harness presiding. There will be no visitation. Family burial will be private.

Walter A. Potter
WINFIELD - Walter A. Potter, 81, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 18, 2000, at Bryant Nursing Center, Edmond, Okla.
He was born Oct. 1, 1918, at Waldron, the son of Claude and Opal Finuf Potter. He worked as an inspector for Boeing and other aircraft companies.
In 1967, he married
Betty Jo Todd. She died in March 1991.
Survivors include: two sons; a daughter, Debbie McConaghy, Hutchinson; a brother; a sister; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swisher-Taylor-Morris Memorial Chapel, Winfield. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Winfield.
Duane R. Malmstrom
SALINA - Duane R. Malmstrom, 75, died Feb. 19, 2000, at Holiday Resort, Salina.
He was born Nov. 25, 1924, at Salina. He graduated from Salina High School and Kansas Wesleyan College. He earned his master's degree from the University of Kansas. He was principal of Maize Junior High School for 36 years, and retired in 1988.
He belonged to United Methodist Church, Maize, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart.
Survivors include: two brothers, his twin, Delno C., Topeka, and Max L., Hutchinson; and a sister, Elverda Hemmy, Salina.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with the Revs. Greg and Kim Rea presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, both at the mortuary. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Carl Webber
TUCSON, Ariz. - Carl Webber, 64, formerly of Sawyer, died Feb. 14, 2000, at Tucson.
He was born April 29, 1935, in Stevens County, the son of Eddie and Selma Hampton Webber. He was a finish grader-blade operator.
On July 30, 1997, he married
Nelda Rogers at Grants N.M. She survives.
Other survivors include: three brothers, Ray, Port Orchard, Wash., Dean, Tulsa, Okla., and Bill, Manhattan; three sisters, Olive Judd, Yakima, Wash., Neva Evans, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Opal Smith, Fort Stockton, Texas.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Cemetery, Cullison, with G.J. Bishop presiding. The casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary, Pratt.
