H.L. 'Scotty' Scott
HOISINGTON - H.L. "Scotty" Scott, 80, died June 2, 2000, at the Hoisington Rehabilitation Center.
He was born April 2, 1920, at Wichita, the son of Clyde N. and Nettie Ruth Naylor Scott. A Great Bend-area resident since 1929, moving from Wichita, he owned and managed Scotty's Grocery in Great Bend, for 34 years.
He attended First Assembly of God Church, Great Bend. He belonged to the Lake Barton Golf Club and the American Legion, both at Great Bend, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hoisington. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 9, 1942, he married
Louise F. Highfill, at Hoisington. She survives.
Others survivors include: a son Dan, Lee's Summit, Mo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. David Hartsell presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, both at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery.

Glenn 'Shorty' Froetschner
LARNED - Glenn "Shorty" Froetschner, 79, died June 1, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 7, 1920, in Pawnee township, the son of Roy William and Mary Stauffer Froetschner. A lifetime Pawnee County resident, he was a former Pawnee County commissioner.
He belonged to Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, the Fairfield Grange, Larned, and was a 4-H leader for 22 years.
On Nov. 17, 1948, he married
Georganna Bacon in rural Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Phil Leon, Larned; a daughter, Verlayne Warner, Olathe; three sisters, Marvel Field, New Mexico, Cordelia Overfield, Omaha, Neb., and Donna Christianson, Garden City; five brothers, Roland "Sammy," Marion, Kyrle and Donald, all of Larned, and Roy Jr., New Mexico; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Larned, with the Rev. Bill Wolf presiding. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and until noon Monday, both at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.

Gladys Pauline Rice
ST. JOHN - Gladys Pauline Rice, 81, died June 2, 2000, at Stafford District Hospital.
She was born Dec. 18, 1918, at Larned, the daughter of Carl and Lelia May Daughenbaugh. She graduated from Zook High School and the Wichita Beauty Academy. A St. John resident since 1946, moving from Larned, she was the owner of Gladys' Beauty Shop, St. John.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, the BPW and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all at St. John.
On Sept. 29, 1940, she married
Glenn Stiele at Larned. He died March 14, 1943. On April 4, 1948, she married
Lester C. Rice at Larned. He died April 18, 1999.
Survivors include: a son, Wayne S. Rice, Hutchinson; a daughter, Lesa D. Wondra, Great Bend; a sister, Lucille Merritt, St. Louis; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Glenn Stiele; and a brother, Clayton Daughenbaugh.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, St. John.

Frieda Smith
LITTLE RIVER - Frieda Smith, 86, died June 2, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born April 6, 1914, at Richmond, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Grace Elsie Richardson. She was a resident of Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River.
On Aug. 7, 1943, she married
Joseph Smith at Lyons. He died July 19, 1988.
Survivors include: a brother, Billy Richardson, Chase.
Mrs. Smith has been cremated. There will be no services.
Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, was in charge of arrangements.
Irvin D. Buller
MOUNDRIDGE - Irvin D. Buller, 74, died June 3, 2000, at Memorial Home in Moundridge.
He was born June 9, 1925, at Halstead, the son of D.C. and Elizabeth Becker Buller. A lifetime Halstead resident, he was the retired senior vice president of Halstead Bank.
He belonged to First Mennonite Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce, all at Halstead.
On Dec. 23, 1951, he married
Ruby E. Duncan at Kinsley. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Melonie Buller, Columbus, Ohio, and Diana Buller, Halstead; three brothers, Jonas, Moundridge, Reuben, Halstead, and Chris, Newton; six sisters, Amanda Unruh, Edna Koehn, Hilma Dirks, Ada Koehn and Helen Reimer, all Halstead, and Judy Koehn, Detroit, Texas; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Aaron Buller.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at First Mennonite Church, Halstead, with the Rev. Cleo Koop presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 12, at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.

Milton H. Lanterman
ELLINWOOD - Milton H. Lanterman, 89, died June 3, 2000, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.
He was born April 30, 1911, at Ellinwood, the son of William H. and Louise Scheib Lanterman. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1930. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he was a cabinet maker until 1945 and became a tool and die maker and model builder in aircraft manufacturing for General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas.
He belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, where he was a trustee and sang in the choir for 62 years, and the International Lutheran Layman's League.
On Oct. 16, 1949, he married
Wilhelmina "Minnie" Strauss at Lincolnville. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Duane and Robert, both of Great Bend; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. Andy Keltner presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, both at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Charles Russell Jedlicka, 73, died May 22, 2000, at Huntsville.

Donna I. Cundith
STERLING - Donna I. Cundith, 76, died June 6, 2000, at her home in Sterling.
She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Reno County, the daughter of William A. and Della Miller Wurst. A lifetime resident of Sterling, she was a former manager of Teen Town, a former Dillon's employee, and a former employee of the mail room at Sterling College.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star, all at Sterling.
On June 18, 1943, she married
Harry E. Cundith at Sterling. He died June 8, 1972.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cheri Lee Thomas, Sterling; a brother, Graydon, Sterling; two sisters, Phyllis Don Carlos and Patsy McMurphy, both Sterling; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Russell Dale.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. James Graves presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Sillin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.

Clarence B. Biggs
ELLSWORTH - Clarence B. Biggs, 88, died June 6, 2000, at Good Samaritan Retirement Village-Villa Grace, Ellsworth.
He was born Oct. 6, 1911, at Ladell, Ark., the son of Clint and Jean Biggs. He was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, and was a retired mechanic for Helwick Motors, Ellsworth.
He belonged to the American Legion Post No. 174 and VFW Post No. 6485, both of Ellsworth.
He married
Helen E. Mattas, at Salina, Nov. 6, 1942. She survives.
Other survivors include: a sister, Betty Hamilton, Boulder City, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.
