Ruby Catherine Freeman
PRATT - Ruby Catherine Freeman, 59, died June 6, 2000, at Sandpiper Bay Health Care, Wichita.
She was born Nov. 28, 1940, at Morrilton, Ark., the daughter of Hays L. and Carlene D. Foster Robertson. A Pratt resident since moving from Wichita in 1982, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Buckles, Valley Center, and Lonnie Freeman, Pratt; a daughter, Teresa Freeman, Medicine Lodge; mother, Wichita; five sisters, Dorothy Flansburg, Santa Margarita, Cal., Helen Marker, Shell Knob, Mo., and Linda Wellborn, Cathy Shaw and Penny Case, all of Wichita; and three grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita, with the Rev. Mark Waner presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Broadway Mortuary, Wichita.

Lillian Ingeborg Gass
McPHERSON - Lillian Ingeborg Gass, 85, died Jan. 29, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson.
She was born Nov. 8, 1915, at Lindsborg, the daughter of Axel William and Jenny Helena Modig Olson. She was a graduate of Smokey Valley High School, Lindsborg. A lifetime McPherson County resident, she was a homemaker.
On Oct. 28, 1941, she married
Henry Richard Gass at Lindsborg. He died July 9, 1999.
Survivors include: a son, William Richard, Cambria, Calif.; and two sisters, Dorothy Smith, McPherson, and Margaret Hafermehl, Marquette.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll; and a sister, Signe Jacques.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at First Christian Church Chapel, McPherson, with the Rev. Neil Engle presiding. There will be no visitation.

Barbara Helen Hubbard
WICHITA - Barbara Helen Hubbard, 69, died Jan. 30, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
She was born July 1, 1931, at Coldwater, the daughter of Muriel and Helene Holmes Gregg. She was a 1949 graduate of Coldwater High School, received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Kansas State University in 1952 and a degree in nursing from Kansas University Medical School in 1954. She was a former resident of the Coldwater area, moving to Wichita in 1957.
She belonged to United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 224, both at Coldwater.
On Aug. 14, 1955, she married
Ronald E. Hubbard at Coldwater. He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Linda King and Connie Gibson, both of Wichita; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Marie Hubbard.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Coldwater, with the Rev. Kent Little presiding. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater.

Alvin Maloney
PENALOSA - Alvin Maloney, 83, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 28, 1917, at Omaha, Neb., the son of Alvin and Helena Loeback Maloney. A longtime resident of Penalosa, he was a retired aviation tech. for Rockwell.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On April 9, 1939, he married
Sylvia Feldheim at Omaha. She died Jan. 6 1996.
Survivors include: three sisters, Juanita Sale and Joyce Bracking, both of Penalosa, and Joann Peterson, Plant City, Fla.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Leroy, Ralph, Eddie, Woody and Bobby; and a sister, Frances Moore.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lerado Cemetery, with the Rev. Gerald Pringle presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.

Gladys V. Buck
DODGE CITY - Gladys V. Buck, 85, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Sunbelt East Health Care, Orlando, Fla.
She was born June 13, 1915, at Haviland, the daughter of George W. and Ida Lee Tarr Thorpe. A graduate of Dodge City High School, she was a secretary for Hurwitz-Mintz Furniture Company, New Orleans. She had been a resident of Dodge City for 22 years, New Orleans for 17 years, Jonesboro, Ga., and returned to Dodge City, before moving to Orlando, Fla., in 1993.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Dodge City, St. Bernard Chapter No. 97, Order of Eastern Star and Mizpah Shrine No. 9, and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, both at Dodge City.
On May 31, 1937, she married
Henry H. Buck at Hutchinson. He died Sept. 12, 1970.
Survivors include: a son, Robert "Bob" E., Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Lelah Smalley, Dodge City; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nita Fairbank; and three brothers.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City, with Lee Schroerlucke presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.

Blanche Cowan
NEWTON - Blanche Cowan, 98, died Jan. 31, 2001, at Kansas Christian Home, Newton.
She was born Aug. 22, 1902, in Washington County, Ind., the daughter of John Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Moore Montgomery. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Sara and Horace Trotter, in Hardinsburg, Ind., where she graduated from high school in 1920. A resident of Newton since 1920, she attended Kansas State University and earned a teacher's certificate. She taught in one-room schoolhouses. She later returned to college graduating from Bethel College in 1960 with a degree in elementary education. She taught sixth grade at Roosevelt, Washington and Lincoln schools in Newton until her retirement at age 70.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church and the UMW at Newton, and belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and KPERS.
On June 1, 1930, she married
John Alexander Cowan at Newton. He died Nov. 3, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, Bruce, Newton; two daughters, Alice Stahl, Sedgwick, and Lois Markley, Howard; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Shirk, Birdie Hill, Ethel Wait and Lillian Groneman; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with the Rev. Michael Keating presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family in attendance from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory.

Niles L. Hauser
SALINA - Niles L. Hauser, 52, died Jan. 12, 2001, in the Washington D.C. area.
He was born Dec. 12, 1949, in Barton County, the son of Keith and Sarah Hauser. A former Ellinwood, moving to Salina in 1973, he was a graduate of the University of Kansas. He was a certified SCUBA diver instructor and licensed multi-engined instrument commercial pilot.
He married
Sharon Hauser. She survives.
Graveside memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood, followed by a flyover with his ashes to be scattered over the family farm and Arkansas River south of Ellinwood. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina.

Elma L. Haltom DeMoss
ANTHONY - Elma L. Haltom DeMoss, 89, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Phoenix.
She was born Aug. 28, 1911, at Crisfield, the daughter of Charles T. and Jenny E. Doll Bonham. An Anthony resident, she was a retired registered nurse.
She belonged to Hopewell Presbyterian Church and the American Nursing Association.
On Aug. 1, 1941, she married
James E. Haltom at Anthony. He died May 2, 1983. In 1986, she married
Richard DeMoss. He died in 1987.
Survivors include: a son, Douglas O. Haltom, Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Cheryl E. Johnson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Beryline Dombaugh, La Junta, Colo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home, Anthony, with Douglas Holtom and Alicia Johnston presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony.
