Alfred C. Tate
GREAT BEND - Alfred Clements Tate, 86, died Dec. 21, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 7, 1918, at rural Boise City, Okla., the son of Thomas Oscar and Sarah Nevada Strictler Tate. He was with the Great Bend Police Department for six years and was owner of Tate's Auto Trim, retiring in 1991.
He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111 and Assembly of God, both of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a chief petty officer.
On Nov. 29, 1944, he married
Wilma Jean Howarth at Arkansas City. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Jacquline Dodson, Wichita, and Teresa L. Tate, Dallas; a brother, Oscar, Yakima, Wash.; a twin sister, Alpha Lusk, Lawrence; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Carol Haussler.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Charter Funerals Chapel, Great Bend, with Pastor Don Paden presiding. Burial will be in Great Bend City Cemetery, with military honors rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Cleta V. Raleigh
McPHERSON - Cleta V. Raleigh, 97, died Dec. 20, 2004, at The Cedars, McPherson.
She was born Oct. 18, 1907, in McPherson County, the daughter of Charles A. and Hilda Elizabeth Holmberg Peterson. A lifetime resident of McPherson County, she was a homemaker and former co-owner and operator of Raleigh's Drug Store, McPherson.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, McPherson.
On July 12, 1930, she married
Millard E. Raleigh at Lyons. He died Nov. 25, 1997.
Survivors include: three grandchildren, Wyatt Hoch and wife Mary Ann, Keith Hoch and wife Gail, all of Wichita, and Brenda Bohnenblust and husband Jay, Clay Center; 10 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Merlin Miller, McPherson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray; two daughters, Reta Hoch-Gubser-Miller and Anita Louise Raleigh; four brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday Dec. 30, 2004, at First Baptist Church, McPherson, with the Rev. Les Cantrell presiding. A private committal service will be Wednesday in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.

Stanley R. Arrowsmith
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Stanley Ray Arrowsmith, 91, died Feb. 10, 2005, at Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was born July 24, 1913, at Halstead, the son of Ray Stanley and Hazel Phoebe Fry Arrowsmith. He was a resident of Scottsdale for one year, moving from Rogers, Ark. He was a tool designer for Northrup Grumman.
On Nov. 29, 1974, he married
Dorothy McMichael at Lake Tahoe, Nev. She survives.
Local survivors include: a sister, Hazel Milne, Halstead.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, with the Rev. Craig Reynolds presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.
Carleah Jo Bright
HAYS - Carleah Jo Bright, 4 months, died Feb. 14, 2005, at her home, Hays.
She was born Oct. 13, 2004, at Hays, the daughter of Daisha Marie Rupke and Dustin E. Bright.
Survivors include: her mother, of the home; her father, Grand Junction, Colo.; two brothers, Masyn and Jesse Bright, both of the home; grandparents, Robert and Bonnie Kisner Rupke and Gary and Gloria Norton Mehl, all of Hays; great-grandparents, Lloyd and Maxiline Huser Kisner and William and Deloris Baker Rupke, all of Hays; and stepgreat-grandparents, Stan and Phyllis Taylor Irvin, Hays.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Melvie Bright; and great-grandparents, Edward and Norma Norton.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Mabel I. Jones
FOWLER - Mabel Irene Jones, 95, died Feb. 15, 2005, at Fowler Nursing Home.
She was born June 4, 1909, at St. Louis the daughter of William A. and Bertha Lueke Logan. A resident of Fowler since 1943, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Christian Matrons, EHU, and was chairwoman of the reception committee of the church for many years, all at Fowler.
On Oct. 13, 1934, she married
Howard Charles Jones at Marshel, Mo. He died Jan. 9, 1979.
Survivors include: a niece, Norma Judkins, Savannah, Ga.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Fowler, with Pastor Ranulfo Garza presiding. The casket will remain closed. Friends are welcome to sign the register from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Burial will be in Fowler Cemetery.

Joleen Schrag
TOPEKA - Joleen Schrag, 65, died Feb. 13, 2005, at a local hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1939, at Pretty Prairie, the daughter of Ed R. and Lena Graber Krehbiel. She graduated from Bethel College in 1961 and taught school at Potwin Elementary School, Topeka, for two years. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1961. She spent the majority of her adult life as a homemaker, raising their two children.
On June 22, 1962, she married
Joe Schrag. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Myles and wife Shelley, Urbana, Ill.; a daughter, Monica Schrag, Topeka; a brother, Janver Krehbiel and wife Linda, Mason, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Bernice Krehbiel, El Cajon, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Zoe.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Marlowe Krehbiel.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Southern Hills Mennonite Church, 511 SE 37th, Topeka. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Florence V. Boeken
ELLSWORTH - Florence V. Boeken, 73, died Feb. 14, 2005, at Good Samaritan Retirement Village, Ellsworth.
She was born Dec. 23, 1931, at Red Rock, Okla., the daughter of John and Martha Gilham. A resident of Ellsworth, she was a homemaker and a tour guide for Fort Harker Museum.
She married
Merle Boeken. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Terry, Lorraine; a daughter, Carrol Nather, Timken; a brother, Homer Gilham, Deer Creek, Okla.; a sister, Mary Folle, Derby; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry; and a brother, Evrette Gilham.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lorraine Baptist Church, Lorraine, with the Rev. George Reddington presiding.

Quintein E. Powers
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Quintein Edward "Ed" Powers, 67, died Feb. 2, 2005.
He was born May 3, 1937, at Sterling, the son of Quintein C. and Inez M. Goudy Powers. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1955. He was a journeyman lineman for K.P.L./K.G.E. in Kansas. He started and coached a wrestling club at Lyons and was a den leader, Webelo leader and scout master. He resided in southern Nevada for eight years.
He belonged to IBEW Local 357 for 40 years and St. Bridget's Parrish for eight years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1960 to 1962.
On Oct. 3, 1964, he married
Christine Moorman at Lyons. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Matthew, of the home, and Mikeal, Wichita; two daughters, Meredith, Henderson, Nev., and SPC 4th Class Melissa Wright, Fort Hood, Texas; two sisters, Joan Butts, Emporia, and Donna Proffitt, Alden; and five grandchildren.
Service was Thursday at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, at a later date.

Robert S. Utz
GARDEN CITY - Robert S. Utz, 55, died Feb. 14, 2005, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
He was born Jan. 4, 1950, at St. Joseph, Mo., the son of William H. and Martha J. Cannaday Utz. He grew up in St. Joseph, living there for 45 years. In 1995, he moved to Garden City.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Garden City.
Survivors include: a brother, William H., Garden City; a niece, Katherine Paige, Jacksonville, Fla.; and a nephew, David Utz, Gladstone, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be at 4:45 p.m. Monday at the chapel of First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins presiding. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Esther E. Goering
MOUNDRIDGE - Esther E. Goering, 91, died Feb. 11, 2005, at Memorial Home, Moundridge.
She was born Jan. 26, 1914, in McPherson County, the daughter of Andreas J. and Elisabeth Goering Wedel. She was a 1933 graduate of Moundridge High School, Moundridge. A lifetime Moundridge area resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Eden Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge.
On June 2, 1937, she married
Ellis E. Goering at Moundridge. He died Dec. 8, 2003.
Survivors include: three sons, Leonard L., Hesston, and Kirby A. and Timothy D., both of Moundridge; three daughters, Lynette F. Preheim, Marion, S.D., Charlene A. Yoder, Kansas City, and Elizabeth Goering, Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eden Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge, with Pastors Lee Lever and Jim Ostlund presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Moundridge Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Eden Church Cemetery, rural Moundridge.
