Josephine Boltz
DIGHTON - Josephine Boltz, 100, died Feb. 16, 2005, at Lane County Long Term Care Unit, Dighton.
She was born Feb. 28, 1904, in Ray County, Mo., the daughter of Virgil and Sallie V. Shirkey Miles. A graduate of Lane County High School, she taught for a year at a country school and was a homemaker.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Dighton, P.E.O. and Eastern Star No. 241.
On June 8, 1924, she married
Arle Boltz at Dighton. He died Aug. 8, 1992.
Survivors include: two daughters, Arlene Heater, Springfield, Va., and Shirley Greer, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Emily Myers, Dighton; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Popp; a brother, Virgil Miles; a sister, Sarah Virginia Bradley; and a grandson.
Funeral was held Feb. 21, 2005, at United Methodist Church of Dighton, with the Rev. David Randall presiding. Burial took place in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Anthony F. Rupp
NESS CITY - Anthony Frank "Toney" Rupp, 83, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Grisell Memorial Long Term Care, Ransom.
He was born June 5, 1921, on the family farm west of Ness City, the son of Corneal and Anna Maria Matje Rupp. A lifetime resident of Ness County, he was a farmer. He was the original owner and operator of Cozy Tavern, Ness City.
He belonged to Sacred Heart Church, American Legion Frank Stull Post No. 152, both at Ness City, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7972, Ransom.
On Aug. 20, 1946, he married
Ruth Rebel at Ness City. She died March 5, 2004.
Survivors include: three sons, Perry and Toney L., both of Ness City, and Todd, Fort Supply, Okla.; a daughter, Patty Rohr, Great Bend; a sister, Leona Trimble, Woodburn, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence, Edmund, Joe, Richard and Robert; two sisters, Julia Stegman and Eleanor Birzer; and a grandson.
Parish Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Father Henry Hildebrandt presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and from 5 p.m. until service time at the church Wednesday. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City.

Don M. Mitchell
McPHERSON - Don M. Mitchell, 85, died Feb. 20, 2005, in rural McPherson.
He was born Feb. 27, 1919, in rural McPherson, the son of Bert B. and Vera A. Poulson Mitchell. He was a 1936 graduate of McPherson High School, McPherson. A lifetime resident of McPherson County, he was a farmer.
He was a lifetime member of Church of Christ, McPherson, where he served as a deacon. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, serving as a captain during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
On June 18, 1944, he married
Virginia Hedlund at New Gottland. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Alan M., Spring Hill, Tenn., and Greg E., McPherson; a daughter, Donna K.M. Vincent, McPherson; a sister, Esther M. Hesser, Salina; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, McPherson, with Minister Glen Elliott presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Chapel, McPherson. Interment will be in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson.

ULYSSES - Pilar E. Galindo, 81, died Feb. 21, 2005, at Western Prairie Care Home, Ulysses.
She was born Aug. 5, 1923, at Slaton, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rafael Brisenel. Moving to Ulysses from Seagraves, Texas, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses.
She married
Polo Rodriguez. He died Feb. 6, 1970. In 1972, she married
Hilario Galindo at Littlefield. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Saulo Rodriguez, Seagraves, Texas, Jake Rodriguez, Stevens, Minn., Steven Rodriguez, Iowa Park, Texas, and Polo Rodriguez, Wichita Falls, Texas; three daughters, Mary Gonzalez, Denver City, Texas, Susie Porras, Seagraves, Texas, and Hope Cervantes, Syracuse; a sister, Clara Purdenso, Roswell, N.M.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses, with Father James Dieker presiding. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Father Trong Tran presiding. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses.

Vera J. Steierl
Vera Jane Steierl, 79, went to be with her Lord Feb. 20, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Aug. 8, 1925, at rural Raymond, the daughter of Ben Martin and Jannie Elizabeth Licktieg Cruth. She graduated from Raymond High School in 1943. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a school bus driver for Buhler School District, retiring in 1995.
She belonged to First Southern Baptist Church, Extension Home Unit, and Ventures IV Sunday School class.
On July 26, 1942, she marred Clifford Vern "Bud" Steierl at Raymond. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, William M., Buhler; two daughters, Jane Ann Cruse, Great Bend, and Jean M. Welch, Ellinwood; three sisters, Anna M. Burns, Lyons, Alberta F. Zongker, Hutchinson, and Eva Ann Cook, Fair Grove, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Guthrie, Margaret Stuart and Velma Hoelcher.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Ray E. Kemple presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

EMPORIA - Robert Duane "Bob" Judd, 54, died Feb. 19, 2005.
He was the father of Jeremiah Michael Judd, Hutchinson.

Charles W. Charlsen
NEWTON - Charles W. "Bud" Charlsen, 77, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
He was born Sept. 6, 1927, at Newton, the son of Charles and Faye Crobarger Charlsen. He attended Wichita State University. A resident of Newton, he had worked for Century Clothing and then for Railroad Savings and Loan for 41 years before his retirement in 1997.
He belonged to Elks, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Optomist Club, Harvey County Health Ministries and Episcopal Social Services payee program.
On Nov. 2, 1972, he married
Shirley Stauffer-Flory at Newton. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Bill, Newton, Tim, Littleton, Colo., Wes, Halstead, and Kurt, Wilmette, Ill.; two daughters, Cyndi Barnes, Valley Center, and Debbie Koerner, Newton; a brother, George, Wichita; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Timothy; and a sister, Georgia Tigner.

ATTICA - Darrel Lee Schrant, 25, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Wichita.
He was born May 18, 1979, at Harper, the son of Sharon Ballinger Schrant and Terry Schrant. A resident of Wichita since 2000, he was a Cessna Aircraft employee.
He belonged to Attica Christian Church, Harper Masonic Lodge No. 206 and Midian Shrine, Wichita.
Survivors include: companion, Kim Taylor, Valley Center; his father, Wichita; his mother, Attica; a brother, Doug, Harper; two stepbrothers, Jeremie Smith, Harper, and Matt Smith, Germany; and grandparents, Vernon and Armella Schrant, Anthony, and Delbert and Oretha Ballinger, Truth or Consequences, N.M.

Alcha E. Snook, 88, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Infinia Health Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 15, 1917, at Belpre, the daughter of George and Lilly Huffman Ellis. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker.
In November 1945, she married
David C. Snook at St. John. He died Feb. 3, 1994.
Survivors include: a son, Lloyd Southards, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Gloria Armstrong, South Hutchinson; a stepson, Oliver Snook, Great Bend; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan Mills and Cecil and Leonard Ellis; four sisters, Jessie Vice, Hazel Ellis, Alta Southards and Lorraine Byers.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in FairlawnCemeteryMemorial Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ted Stoughton presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Chapel, Hutchinson.

GARDEN CITY - Catherina Elizabeth Harmon, 90, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Kearny County Hospital, Lakin.
She was born Oct. 1, 1914, at Munjor, the daughter of Ludwig and Elizabeth Gerstner Gabel. A resident of Lakin since 2003, moving from Garden City, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City.
On Feb. 13, 1943, she married
Ira Clyde Harmon at Harrisburg, Penn. He died July 27, 2004.
Survivors include: a son, Clyde Ray, Lenexa; two daughters, Claudia Jimenez, Wichita, and Mary Pendergraft, Garden City; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters.
Vigil service will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Father Joseph Bahr presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, both at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
