John W. Casebeer
McPHERSON - John W. Casebeer, 96, died Dec. 4, 2004, at The Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson.
He was born Feb. 6, 1908, at Altoona, Iowa, the son of William and Lola Hatcher Casebeer. In 1922, John moved with his family to Red Star, Ark., and in 1926, he left Arkansas to work in the Oklahoma oil fields. John came to McPherson in 1931.
In 1933, John was united in marriage to Clara Krueger. They had two sons. In 1934, they moved to Galva, and John worked for Kansas Power & Light. While living in Galva, John started his first salvage business, the Galva Iron & Metal Company. In 1940, John moved his family and his oil field salvage business to McPherson and started the Casebeer Supply Company. In the mid 1940s, John developed the Casebeer Oil & Gas Company. He continued to successfully operate both the salvage and the oil and gas businesses for nearly 30 years.
John was a devoted public servant. Most of his life was spent serving the people of McPherson County and the State of Kansas. John was elected to public office ten times. His first office was to the Galva City Council. John served for fourteen years in the Kansas State Legislature (1955-1969). Much of this time he served on the Ways & Means Committee and the Oil & Gas Committee. In 1972, John was elected to the McPherson County Commission. He served for 12 years. During his tenure, he repaired the clock in the McPherson County Courthouse tower.
John was an active member of numerous civic, educational, and fraternal organizations. He was a member of the McPherson County Chamber of Commerce for 65 years, serving as president three terms; Elks Lodge for 62 years, serving as Exalted Ruler; McPherson Lions Club for 58 years, serving as president; and IOOF for 66 years. John was a 68-year member of Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, and a 58-year member of Isis Shrine. He was a Heritage member of McPherson College and served on the board at Central Christian College.
In 1979, John was selected by the McPherson Chamber of Commerce as the "Man of the Year." In 1981, John was honored as Elk of the Year. In 1998, he was recognized by the City of McPherson for "His Outstanding Support and Contribution toward the Preservation of McPherson City and County History." In 2003, he received the Distinguished Service Award from Lions International. In 2003, John was the recipient of the Pioneer Business Award, presented by the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, naming John to the Business & Industry Wall of Honor.
John was a life member of the First Baptist Church, McPherson. He served on the Meals on Wheels Board, the Lindsborg Old Mill Board, the Shiloh Nursing Home Board at Canton, plus numerous other local boards.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Sue, Chapin, S.C.; his brother, Charles, McPherson; a sister, Rose Barker, Dewey, Okla.; five grandsons, Doug, Mike, Steve, Tom and Chris Casebeer; a granddaughter, Joni Kennedy; eight great-grandchildren; the Keith Becker daughters; several nephews, nieces and many friends and acquaintances.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; his son, George; a grandson, Jeff; two brothers, Robert and George Casebeer; and two sisters, Martha Kendall and Margaret Swanson.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.

Iris Greene
LARNED - Iris Greene, 93, died Feb. 18, 2005, at Larned Health Care Center.
She was born Nov. 9, 1911, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Harry J. and Della M. Beebe Newacheck. A longtime Larned resident, she was a homemaker and former owner of the Larned Court Motel.
She belonged to the First United Methodist Church, Larned, and American Legion Post No. 106.
On April 7, 1944, she married
Frank Greene at San Francisco. He died Nov. 29, 1960.
Survivors include: a cousin, Karl Newacheck, Russell.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Larned Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned.

Deana D. Clark
Deana D. Clark, 44, died Feb. 18, 2005, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born March 8, 1960, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Walter D. and Donna D. Ketchum McKee. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1978. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, she was a homemaker.
On Sept. 8, 1978, she married
Greg Clark at Hutchinson. He survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Sarah Colbert and her husband, Jeff, Hutchinson, and Katie and Samantha Clark, of the home; three brothers, Gary McKee, Hutchinson, and Mark and Mike McKee, Phoenix; a sister, Michelle Tyler, Derby; mother and father-in-law, Don and Carol Clark, Hutchinson; and two grandchildren, Avery and William Colbert, Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nick Warner and Father Ned Blick presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marjorie Dautel
ATTICA - Marjorie Dautel, 88, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Attica Long Term Care Facility.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Attica United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Attica Cemetery.

Doug D. Gonser
LAVERNE, Okla. - Doug D. Gonser, 76, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Harper County Community Hospital, Buffalo, Okla.
He was born May 30, 1928, at east of Laverne. He was a farmer and rancher.
Survivors include: a son, Tommy, Friona, Texas; a companion, Betty Brown, Laverne; and three sisters, Clara Luper, Hondo, Texas, Pattie Hughes, Demmitt, Texas, and Della Rose Broyles, Friona, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two daughters and a sister, Mary Redfern.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assembly of God Church, Laverne, with the Rev. Wes Peterman presiding. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. in Rock Church Cemetery, southeast of Buffalo, Okla. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Myatt-Seeger Funeral Home, Laverne.

Alma E. Hoagland
PRATT - Alma Elizabeth Hoagland, 99, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Pratt Regional Living Center.
She was born May 21, 1905, at Kingfisher, Okla., the daughter of Charles E. and Lucy E. Andrews Barnard. A resident of Pratt since 1958, she operated grocery stores in Sun City, Sawyer and Cunningham.
She belonged to the First Christian Church of Pratt, CMS and Eastern Star.
On April 30, 1925, she married
Lon Hoagland at Sun City. He died Dec. 17, 1982.
Survivors include: a son, Donald, St. Louis; a brother, Bill Barnard, Medicine Lodge; a sister, Geneva Wheat, Medicine Lodge; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Larrison Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Mike McGovney presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City.

Kathryn M. Bircher
ELLSWORTH - Kathryn M. Bircher, 81, died Feb. 19, 2005, at Ellsworth County Medical Center, Ellsworth.
She was born Dec. 18, 1923, at Ellsworth, the daughter of William N. and Edith Manverse Preisker. A lifetime Ellsworth resident, she co-owned Birchers Dairy, worked as a selective service board clerk and was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, OES Chapter No. 44 and American Legion Auxiliary, all at Ellsworth.
On Aug. 22, 1943, she married
Walter Rolland Bircher at Ellsworth. He died Jan. 23, 2000.
Survivors include: two sons, David, Ellsworth, and Richard, Topeka; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rolland Jr.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Leonard Goering presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in EllsworthCemeterywith OES graveside rites.

Dorothy V. Lundin
DODGE CITY - Dorothy V. Lundin, 88, died Feb. 17, 2005, at her home, Dodge City.
She was born April 8, 1916, at Oxford, Ohio, the daughter of William Arthur and Elsie Anderson Van Ausdall. A resident of Dodge City since 2002, moving from Minneapolis, she was a registered nurse and instructor of nursing at the University of Minnesota. She belonged to Sigma Theta Tau, National Honorary Society in Nursing, First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, American Nursing Association and Minnesota Nursing Association.
On June 3, 1939, she married
Carl Milton Lundin at St. Louis Park, Minn. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Stephen, St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Barbara Lundin, Dodge City; a brother, Robert Van Ausdall, Oak Brook, Ill.; a sister, Miriam Skopin, San Mateo, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Stephen and Michael Lundin Kovarovic; and a granddaughter, Beth Ann Lundin.
Remembrance service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at her daughter's home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, Minneapolis.

Glen R. Mackey
BOUSE, Ariz. - Glen Richard Mackey, died Dec. 11, 2004, at his home, Bouse, Ariz.
He was born Jan. 30, 1930, on a farm in rural Reno County.
The body has been cremated. There will be no funeral.
Genevieve N. Garnett
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Genevieve N. Garnett, 87, died Dec. 12, 2004, at Memphis Health Care and Rehab.
A resident of Memphis, formerly of Cheney, she was a homemaker.
She married
Leroy Garnett. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons; a daughter; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Goddard.

Ruby V. Rivers
NEWTON - Ruby Velera Rivers, 78, died Dec. 11, 2004, at Friendly Acres, Newton.
She was born Oct. 22, 1926, at Newton, the daughter of Ina and Orla Turner. She attended Stone School and graduated from Newton High School. She was a homemaker and area volunteer, operating a halfway house for substance abusers and volunteering at Central Homecare and Hospice for four and a half years. She also worked as a volunteer at Kauffman Museum, the SCHICK program and Kansas Senior Services and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, from which she received the Volunteer of the Year award. She also volunteered 8, 895 hours with the RSVP committee.
She belonged to First Mennonite Church, Newton.
She is survived by: two sons, Ronald Girton, Loveland, Colo., and Duane Girton, Conway, Ark.; two adopted daughters, Marie Fuller, Buena Vista, Colo., and Terry Outhet, Newton; a brother, Leroy Turner, Houston, Texas; a sister, Blanche Froelich, Newton; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Regier and Jim Rivers; a daughter, Kathy; a sister, Vi Goertzen, North Newton; and a brother, Merle Turner.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Mennonite Church.
