Faye F. Thimm
NEWTON - Faye F. Thimm, 93, died Nov. 14, 2004, at Kansas Christian Home, Newton.
She was born Jan. 1, 1911, at Newton, the daughter of Ben and Mable Luginbill Cushing. A Newton resident, she was a retired employee of Anderson's Book Store and Century Clothing Store.
She married
William "Bill" Thimm. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a sister, Ferne King, Newton; and numerous cousins.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with Chaplain Peter Hartman presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of the funeral home.
Frieda Schlotthauer
HILLSBORO - Frieda Schlotthauer, 94, died Nov. 14, 2004, at Hillsboro.
She was born Dec. 21, 1909, at Bunker Hill, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Lockman Batthauer. A Hillsboro resident, she was a homemaker.
On Dec. 29, 1926, she married
Herman R. Schlotthauer. He died in 1986.
Survivors include: a daughter, LaNorma Kreutziger, Marion; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Strassburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Mashburn presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the church building fund in care of the funeral home.
Benjamin E. Ummel
RANSOM - Benjamin Earl Ummel, 29, died Nov. 9, 2004, at Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom.
He was born April 6, 1975, in Ransom, the son of Earl and Linda Bauer Ummel. He worked in the oil fields of Ness County as a truck driver.
Survivors include: his parents, Ransom; a daughter, Tara Jo Walker, Utica; two brothers, John, Albuquerque, N.M., and Sam, Ransom; and grandparents, Frederick Earl Ummel and Kay, Hoisington, and John Bauer, Arnold; and many more relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Letha Jo Ummel; grandmothers, Letha Maxine Tillitson Ummel and Josephine June Bauer; and step-grandmother, Gertie Ummel.
Services have taken place.

Abel Loya
DODGE CITY - Abel Loya, 81, died Nov. 14, 2004, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.
He was born June 21, 1923, at Chihuahua, Mexico.
He belonged to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City.
In 1968, he married
Maria de los Angeles. She survives.
Other survivors include: six sons, Eusebio, Dodge City, Florentino, Chihuahua, Gabriel, Liberal, Jildardo, Denver, Abel, Portales, N.M., and Fermin Loya, Greeley, Colo.; four daughters, Ermelinda and Cecilia Loya, both of Dodge City, Olga Loya, Chihuahua, and Martina Loya, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Ezequiel and Marcos Loya, both of Chihuahua; two sisters, Cresenciana and Gregoria Loya, both of Chihuahua; 45 grandchildren; and 64 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral will take place at a later date in Chihuahua.
Selma E. Reusser
HESSTON - Selma E. Reusser, 86, died Nov. 14, 2004, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.
She was born Oct. 19, 1918, at Buhler, the daughter of Herman K. and Katrina Buller Ediger. In 1946, she moved to Walton, then to Moundridge in 1996. A Hesston resident since 2001, she was a teacher and mental health professional.
She belonged to Bethel College Mennonite Church, Golden Circle Camping Club, Shoe Scuffers Square Dance Club, Walton E.H.U., Y.W.C.A. and church and civic groups and was a 4-H leader.
On Dec. 10, 1943, she married
Gail Reusser at Newton. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three daughters, Joan Turetsky, Fairfax, Va., Beverly Reusser, Washington, D.C., and Mary Reusser, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Menno Ediger, Mason, Ohio; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton, with the Revs. Heidi Regier Kreider and Norma Johnson presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee for Water Projects, in care of Miller Funeral Home, Hesston.
Evelyn L. Murray
Evelyn Lucille Hayes Murray was born on January 8, 1911, in Dewey County, on a farm west of Cestos, Oklahoma, to Thomas Clifton and May Irene Hayes. She attended Richmond and Sterling Grove schools (which was named after her grandfather, Sterling Hayes). As a teenager, she traveled with a number of Evangelists to become their baby sitter and musician as they traveled around preaching revival services. Evelyn met her husband, Forrest Murray, during this time. Forrest's father, Floyd Murray, was another Evangelist for whom Evelyn played and sang. They began singing together, and it was not long before they were married
on July 13, 1932. Evelyn and Forrest Murray had a son, Charles Lenn, born 8/12/34 and a daughter, Wanda Lucille, born 11/18/38.
Together Evelyn and Forrest pastured churches in Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona, California and Oregon. Evelyn was a co-laborer with her husband as they served God together during 72 years of marriage. They retired from active pasturing in 1982 and moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma. They later moved to Woodward, Oklahoma, into the house built before the turn of the century and occupied by her grandparents. In 2002, they sold their home and moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, to be close to their granddaughters, Yvette Jones and Lynnie Robertson, who cared for Evelyn until she went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 9, 2004.
Evelyn Murray was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Isaac Hayes, and two sisters, Glendene Hayes and Erma Barker.
Evelyn leaves behind her husband, Forrest, of the home in Hutchinson, Kansas; son Reverend Charles Lenn and wife Maurine Murray, of Shattuck, Oklahoma; daughter Reverend Wanda Lucille Murray Leach and husband Dr. Richard Leach of Hydro, Oklahoma; grandchildren, John and Laura Murray of Haysville, Kansas, Rhonda and Richard Wyckoff of Corpus Christi, Texas, Colita Daniels of Enid, Oklahoma, Lynnie and Tom Robertson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Yvette Jones of Hutchinson, Kansas, Osborne McClintic of Rogers, Arkansas, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Katherine Charmasson of Russellville, Arkansas, and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Jacob R. Hammock
BEAVER, Okla. - Jacob Ryan Hammock, infant son of Jessie and Kristi Sperl Hammock, was stillborn Nov. 11, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
Survivors include: his parents; a brother, Isaac Hammock, of the home; a sister, Makayla Jensen, of the home; grandparents Robin and Luis Gonzalez, Liberal, Carl and Peggy Sperl, Freeport, Texas, and Linnie and Bobbie Hammock, Liberal; great-grandparents, Faye Hammock, Liberal, Ted and Esther Masten, Longmont, Colo., and Elmer and Pauline Smith, Fort Smith, Ark.; and great-great-grandparents, Leo and Elouise Trivitt, Hardy, Ark.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Ralph Hammock.
No services are planned. Miller Mortuary, Liberal, is in charge of the arrangements.
John W. Goering
MOUNDRIDGE - John W. Goering, 96, died Nov. 13, 2004, at Memorial Home Retirement Community, Moundridge.
He was born Oct. 15, 1908, at rural Moundridge, the son of John C. and Adina Wedel Goering. He lived most of his life in the McPherson and Moundridge communities and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson College, and earned a Master's degree from University of Kansas. He did additional graduate studies at Wichita State University and Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. He was a well-known educator in the McPherson school system, where he worked for 34 years. He was a classroom teacher from 1936 to 1955, served as assistant principal and principal at McPherson High School from 1955 to 1974. He also served as a board member of the Western District Conference of the Mennonite Church, on the initiating Board of Memorial Home, and was a member of the Lions Club and numerous other community organizations. In his retirement, he delivered meals to homebound persons through the Meals on Wheels program and also assisted other older adults with their income taxes as a trained VITA volunteer. He was inducted into the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 2000.
John was baptized upon his confession of faith at the Eden Mennonite Church and later became a charter member of First Mennonite Church, McPherson, where he contributed in many leadership positions. He married
Agnes A. Wedel Goering on June 2, 1941, and they shared life happily together for the next 45 years. Agnes died on Aug. 2, 1986. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Survivors include: two sons, J. Randall "Randy" and wife Kathy, McPherson, and Steve W. and wife Susan, Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Karen Goering Hostetler and husband Clifton, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lillie Cullar, North Lima, Ohio, and Lorene Stucky, Moundridge; and by a brother, Martin H. Goering, also of Moundridge. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, McPherson. Preceding the memorial service there will be a family sharing time at 9:15 a.m. at the church, and the burial will be in the McPherson CityCemeteryat 10 a.m. Viewing will be at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Norma L. Harris
LIBERAL - Norma L. Harris, 79, died Nov. 13, 2004, at her home, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 5, 1925, at Nakoma, the daughter of Eldon and Katie Erdsik Campbell. A Liberal resident since 2002, she was a secretary to the court judge at Dodge City for several years.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Willgarden.
She married
Floyd S. Powell. She later married
Ike Harris.
Survivors include: two daughters, Kitty Simmons Romine, Liberal, and Jackie Lenz, Montezuma; a brother, Eldon Campbell, Denver; three sisters, Thelma Agnew, Weskan, Glenna Anderson, Ashland, and Colleen Blew, Lewis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal.

Doyle Rodgers
DIGHTON - Doyle Rodgers, 69, died Nov. 13, 2004, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
He was born July 26, 1935, at Marysville, Calif., the son of Byrd and Lola Mae Leach Rodgers. He graduated from Shasta High School, Redding, Calif. A resident of Dighton since 2003, previously of O'Brien, Calif., Trinity Center, Calif., and Anderson, Calif., he worked as a logger.
He attended Bible Fellowship Church, Dighton.
On Oct. 7, 1985, he married
Joyce Callaghan at Reno, Nev. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Brenda Thompson, Redding, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Maureena Luera, Bowling Green, Ky., and Kelly Riley, Redding, Calif.; four stepsons, Hal Sutherland, Redding, Calif., Shawn Sutherland, Shingletown, Calif., Marc and Corey Marin, both of Gardnerville, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Rodgers; a brother, Charles; and an aunt.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bible Fellowship Church, Dighton, with Pastor Ed Groover presiding.

Janice R. Wilson
LA JUNTA, Colo. - Janice Rose "Pat" Wilson, 70, died Oct. 23, 2004, at Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Home, La Junta.
She was born March 17, 1934, at Lincoln County. She graduated from Wilson High School and Asbury Hospital School of Nursing, Salina. She was a registered nurse for 40 years.
Survivors include: her husband; three daughters; a brother, Kay K. Vanek, Holyrood; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Crematorium, La Junta, handled the arrangements.
