Orvice N. Claassen
RICHFIELD - Orvice Nadine Claassen, 84, died Dec. 10, 2004, at her home, Richfield.
She was born Dec. 14, 1919, at Bethany, Mo., the daughter of William and Mabel Stock Coots. A Kansas resident since 1941, moving from Illinois, she was a farmwife.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, Richfield. She was active in United Methodist Women both at Richfield and Zapata, Texas.
On April 16, 1938, she married
Carl Fredrick Claassen at Bethany, Mo. He died Dec. 8, 2000.
Survivors include: two sons, Fredrick Lewis, Richfield, and Carl Wayne, Green Valley, Ariz.; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Long, Hammond, La.; a brother, Gerald Coots, Plainview, Texas; a sister, Beulah Coots Chamness, San Antonio; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Garland and Jack Coots; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Richfield, with Pastor John Jordan presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Burial will be in Richfield Cemetery.

Sylvia A. Sanders
LARNED - Sylvia Ann Sanders, 64, died Dec. 9, 2004, at her home, Larned.
She was born Oct. 2, 1940, at Bison, the daughter of Anton and Anna Urban Haberman. A Larned resident since 1962, moving from Bison, she was a cook for USD 495.
She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned.
On June 2, 1962, she married
Merrill Dean "Curly" Sanders at Timken. He died Jan. 19, 1994.
Survivors include: a son, Merrill, Larned; two daughters, Mary Sekavec, Desoto, and Rose Sanders-Likes, Kansas City; a brother, Arlyn Haberman, Hutchinson; a sister, Darlene Fleischmann, Great Bend; and three grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Dennis Reed presiding. A lunch will be served prior to service at 12:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.

Bernard Woodburn
HOISINGTON - Bernard Woodburn, 84, died Dec. 9, 2004, at Hays Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Aug. 16, 1920, at Great Bend, the son of Joseph Bailey and Laura Maurine Ashpole Woodburn. A Hoisington resident for over half a century, he was a power plant operator for more than 30 years for the City of Hoisington, retiring in 1992.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 331, AF and AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428, American Legion No. 286, all at Hoisington, and Wichita Consistory.
He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
On July 12, 1945, he married
Ruth Dale at Protection. She died in January 1985.
Survivors include: two sons, Larry, and wife Denise, Holts Summit, Mo., and Jerry, and wife Chris, Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Linda Frederick, Hays; a longtime companion, Inez Guthrie, Hoisington; a sister, Ida Mae Sutton, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home and 11 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites.

Rusty Eck
WICHTIA - Eck, Orestes L. "Rusty, " 76, former owner of Rusty Eck Ford, died Friday, December 10, 2004, after quietly fighting cancer for the past year complaining to no one.
He was an entrepreneur, a businessman, and a philanthropist, and loved his community deeply. He spent most of his life giving back to the community.
Vigil service, 7 p.m. Sunday, service, 10 a.m. Monday, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by parents, John and Anna Thimmesch Eck; brothers, Alphons, Urban, Reverend Vincent and Joe Eck.

LARNED - Bernard J. Debes, 73, died Dec. 10, 2004, at St. Joseph Long Term Care, Larned.
He was born Nov. 3, 1931, at Larned, the son of Albert and Olivia Jenisch Debes. A lifetime Larned resident, he was a farmer.
He belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all at Larned.
On Nov. 12, 1971, he married
Jeane Steinert Weaver at Great Bend. She survives.

Dorothy M. Van Nover
PRATT - Dorothy Marie Van Nover, 81, died Dec. 10, 2004, at Pratt Regional Living Center.
She was born April 30, 1923, at Byers, the daughter of John A. and Ruth E. Peacock Headrick. She graduated from Byers High School and attended Wichita Business College for a year. A lifetime Byers area resident, moving to Pratt in 2004, she was a homemaker and owner of Van Nover Upholstery Shoppe, Byers.
She belonged to Pleasant Plain Friends Church, Byers.
On Oct. 16, 1949, she married
David E. Van Nover at Byers. He died Feb. 17, 1966.
Survivors include: a son, Leslie, Antigo, Wis.; two daughters, Barbara Griffith, Neodesha, and Karen Vanover, Miami, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Carl and Melvin Headrick; and a sister, Thelma Beberstine.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pratt Friends Church, with Pastor Donald Mutton and the Rev. Leslie Griffith presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ayers-Calbeck Mortuary, Pratt. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery, Byers.

JETMORE - Harold L. Sherrill, 74, died Dec. 11, 2004, at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, Jetmore.
He was born Feb. 26, 1930, at Wasola, Mo., the son of John and Ruth Abel Sherrill. A Jetmore resident, he was a business owner and manager of Liquid Carbonics.
He belonged to First Baptist Church and Hodgeman County Historical Society, both at Jetmore.
On April 11, 1959, he married
Ellen Ward at Denton, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Fred Gillespie, Ava, Mo., and Kevin Sherrill, Jetmore; three daughters, Mary Ellen Schinstock, Great Bend, Debbie Peterson, Woodland Park, Colo., and Jacque Sherrill, Jetmore; two brothers, Larry, Windsor, Mo., and Wayne, Vacaville, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Leon; and a brother, Harlan.

LAVERNE, Okla. - Graveside memorial service for Billy Dale Seeger will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Laverne, Okla., Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Wes Peterman presiding.

Linus C. Issinghoff
OSAGE CITY - Linus Clinton Issinghoff, 78, died Dec. 10, 2004, at his home, Osage City.
He was born April 21, 1926 at Spearville. A resident of Dodge City from 1990 to 2002, moving to Osage City, he served on the Wichita police force for 14 years. After 20 years with the FBI, he retired and worked as a private investigator for 10 years.
He received 12 years of his education at Windhorst and was a graduate of Wichita State University. He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school during World War II in 1944. He served as a signalman third class on the Destroyer USS H.P. Jones DD427.
On Jan. 28, 1947, he married
Martha Stremel at Windhorst. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include: a son; two daughters; a sister; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary and vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Windhorst, with Father A. Ted Skalsky presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Windhorst, with military graveside rites conducted by Howard Gotschall Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1714.

JETMORE - Betty J. Salisbury, 65, died Dec. 10, 2004, at her home, Jetmore.
She was born Dec. 18, 1938, in Atchison County, Mo., the daughter of Ward and Helen Mathes Shewey. She attended grade school and high school at Norton. A Jetmore resident, formerly of Great Bend, Dodge City and Wichita, she worked in the food service and beverage industry in a management position.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, ESA Theta Pi, Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary and Booster Club, all at Jetmore.
In 1957, she married
Ernest Kearns at Clayton, N.M. In 1963, she married
Richard Edminsten. In 1970, she married
Clem Knoeber. On Oct. 10, 1996 she married
Roger Salisbury at Wichita. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Rodney and Richard Knoeber, Dodge City, and Robbie Kearns, Kearney, Neb.; and two daughters, Kathi Ebner, Logan, and Kandi Knoeber, Wichita; a stepson, Roger P. Salisbury, Richmond, Ontario, Canada; a stepdaughter, Melissa Wantz, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; three brothers, Willard and Richard Shewey, Yuma, Ariz., and David Shewey, Merced, Calif.; two sisters, May Keen, Kearney and Lorena McElderry, West Branch, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Raymond, Delbert and Ward Jr.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Jetmore, with the Rev. Mitch Reece presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Norton Cemetery.
