Ruby June Hefling
HALSTEAD - Ruby June Hefling, 69, died June 19, 2004, at her home at Halstead.
She was born June 12, 1935, at Hillsboro, the daughter of Edward and Martha Siebel Suderman. She worked as a homemaker, beautician and waitress.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Halstead, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 5, Newton.
On Dec. 12, 1958, she married
James M. Hefling at Hillsboro. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Duane, Halstead; a daughter, Denise Moore, Hutchinson; a brother, Les Suderman, Hillsboro; two sisters, Hilda Hein, Hillsboro, and Adena Schmidt, Fresno, Calif.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Edward; and a brother, Leon Suderman.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Halstead, with the Rev. Nancy Lambing presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery.

Trudy Covert
Trudy Covert, 87, died June 18, 2004, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 2, 1916, at Goldsboro, Texas, the daughter of Fred Clarence and Lillie Inez Adams Pierce. She graduated from Content High School and from business college, Abilene, Texas. A resident of Hutchinson since 1945, moving from Abilene, Texas, she was a homemaker, and she retired from the Hutchinson School System Food Services in 1985. Then she went to work for B.C. Christophers.
She belonged to Eastwood Church of Christ, and she volunteered for RSVP and the Delos V. Smith Senior Center.
On July 6, 1945, she married
Thomas Dale Covert at Abilene, Texas. He died June 13, 1976.
Survivors include: a son, Jim Covert, Pratt; two daughters, Linda Coleman, Burgess, Mo., and Patty Robinson, Wichita; a brother, Clarence "Buck" Pierce, Mulberry; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Morris L. Pierce; and a sister, Lois Williams.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Jimmie Keas presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gable Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Albert L. Hawley
GARDEN CITY - Albert LeRoy Hawley, 70, died Dec. 16, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
He was born July 28, 1934, at Sharon Springs, the son of Robert L. and Edith L. Johnson Hawley. A Garden City resident since 1997, moving from Scott City, he had worked at Scott City Grain, several auto body shops and Prime Pork Hog Farm, all at Scott City.
He belonged to First Christian Church, Garden City, Christian Men's Fellowship and Consumer Support Services. He volunteered at Emmaus House and Garden City Family YWCA.
On Sept. 24, 1969, he married
LeAnne Ruth O'Maley at Lafayette, Ind. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Carol Rohrbough and Marilyn Hawley, both of Garden City; three sisters, Wanda Davison, Avon Park, Fla., Edna Mead and Norma Hawley, both of Phoenix; and four grandsons.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Donald Carter presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Beverly N. Kreger-Koepke
DODGE CITY - Beverly N. Kreger-Koepke, 68, died Dec. 16, 2004, at Enid, Okla., following a lengthy battle with cancer.
born Nov. 17, 1936, daughter of Elmer and Mary Adams in Hooper, Colo. She was former owner Contemporary Tours Travel in Dodge City.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, NRA and Gold Star Wives of America, Dodge City.
On July 23, 1955, she married
Theodore (Ted) Kreger Jr., in Taos, N.M. He preceded her in death. On Dec. 31, 1986, she married
John Koepke in Wichita. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: three daughters, Theresa Foote, Denver, Colo; Karen Rouse, Bucklin and Kristeen Karr, Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Yvonne Battles, Clovis, N.M., Barbara Herd, Vista, Calif. and Patty Hendrie, Enid, Okla.; four grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a son Edwin Kreger.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Cremation has taken place.

MARQUETTE - Bert G. Davis, 95, died Dec. 15, 2004.
He was born Sept. 14, 1909, at Hope. A Marquette resident, he retired as a highway patrolman.
Survivors include: his wife, Marguerite Startz Davis.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Marquette. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Elmo Cemetery, Elmo.

Paul D. Betts
GARDEN CITY - Paul D. "Pappy" Betts, 71, died Dec. 16, 2004, at Minneola Long Term Care.
He was born May 8, 1933, at Detroit, the son of Walter and Marian Betts. A Garden City resident since 1966, moving from Dodge City, he was owner and operator of Tree Care Experts and several night clubs, also working as a bar tender at Eagles Lodge, all at Garden City.
He belonged to Bible Christian Church, Eagles Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all at Garden City.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include: four sons, Bobby Dean, Bullhead City, Ariz., Lelyn, Larned, Travis, Kansas City, Mo., and Mark Goodwin, Fowler; six daughters, Kari Cargile, Dickerson, Texas, Tanya Kleeman, Fowler, Beatrice Ledesma, Connie Huber, both of Garden City, Shelia Cox, Overbrook, and Lisa Bullock, Larned; a brother, Richard, California; 23 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Jr. and Ronald; and a sister, Judy Sanders.

Ellen A. Ball
GARDEN CITY - Ellen A. Ball, 75, died Dec. 16, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
She was born Feb. 14, 1929, at Kalvesta, the daughter of Lonzo and Myrtle Friedlund Woods. A resident of Garden City since the late 1940s, previously of Kalvesta and Wichita County, she was secretary and bookkeeper for Ball Trucking.
She belonged to Garden City Church of the Nazarene.
On Dec. 16, 1944, she married
Vernon Ball at Kalvesta. He died March 8, 1993.
Survivors include: four sons, Dean, Victor, Brian, all at Garden City, and Ron, Hesperia, Calif.; a daughter, Bonnie Wisenbaker, Garden City; four brothers, Donald Woods, Ocean Shores, Wash., Glen Woods, Garfield, Ark., Russell and Homer Woods, both of Redding, Calif.; four sisters, Lois May Langford, Live Oak, Calif., Marlene Davis, Nampa, Idaho, Barbara Mitchell, Willows, Calif., and Millie Shold, Richland, Ore.; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Merlin; and two brothers, Marvin and Harold Woods.

Alvin Harms
NEWTON - Alvin Harms, 87, died Dec. 17, 2004, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.
born July 16, 1917, the son of Peter J. and Verena F. Wuthrich Harms. He was a farmer, electrician and founded Harms Electric of Newton in 1948.
He belonged to and assisted founding Grace Community Church, Newton. He was active with the Gideons and Jail Ministries in Harvey County and the Hutchinson Reformatory. He also was part of a quartet.
On August 18, 1943, he married
Esther Ratzlaff at Newton. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Larry, Newton; three grand children and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and eight sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church, Newton, with Pastor Dave Reimer presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery, Newton. Glenn E. Sparks
JETMORE - Glenn E. Sparks, 76, died Dec. 16, 2004, at Medicalodge, Kinsley.
He was born Feb. 14, 1928, at Terlton, Okla., the son of James T. and Mamie J. Jones Sparks. A resident of Jetmore, he was a commercial welder.
He was of the Baptist faith. He belonged to the Masons for more than 25 years with York Rites, and belonged to the American Legion, both at Jetmore.
On Feb. 13, 1954, he married
Martha Brown at Jennings, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Ronald, Cunningham; two daughters, Glenda Reese, Wichita, and Deanna Bradford, Jetmore; four brothers, Lester, Stillwater, Okla., Douglas, Jennings, Okla., J.R., Cleveland, Okla., Kenneth, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Minnie Vantrees, Tulsa, and Joan Brady, Jennings; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Clyde and Dale.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mitch Reece presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
