Leon Blackwell
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Leon "Blackie" Blackwell, 86, died Nov. 27, 2004, at Independence Regional Hospital, Independence, Mo.
He was born Dec. 17, 1917, at Cyrene, Mo., the son of James and Margaret Mitchell Blackwell. While living at the Kechi and Valley Center areas, he worked for Boeing. He later worked for the city of Valley Center for 13 years and the city of Newton for 15 years, serving as the superintendent for the water and sewer departments. He began Immanuel Baptist Church of Newton in his home.
On June 9, 1937, he married
Shirley Griffith. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son; two daughters; two brothers; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with Pastor Ray Kimple presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Sunnydale.

Lota G. Vanlandingham
KINGMAN - Lota G. Vanlandingham, 91, died Nov. 30, 2004, at Kingman Community Hospital.
She was born May 15, 1913, at Spivey, the daughter of Perry and Victoria Weber Pepper. She was a graduate of the Spivey High School and attended Wichita Business College. A longtime Kingman community resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter D.G., Della Chapter No. 172 OES, all of Kingman.
On Dec. 31, 1930, she married
Ross Vanlandingham at El Dorado. He died June 27, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, Bill, Kingman; three daughters, Donna Tarbutton, Maple Hill, Connie Byers, Kingman, and Mary Ann, Medicine Lodge; a sister, Cassie Stearns, Wellington; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ellis Pepper; two half-brothers, Roy and Bill Reece, and three sisters, Iva Helm, Olive Dauner and Amy Lewis.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kingman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Schmitt presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Burial will be in Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, Kan.

Leota D. Koster
GARDEN CITY - Leota D. Koster, 84, died Nov. 29, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 21, 1920, in Reno County, the daughter of John and Mary Lubbers Van Campen. She attended Garden City High School. She was a homemaker and drove a bus for USD 457 for 11 years. In her later years, she worked as a receptionist for Garnand Funeral Home.
She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church; Lutheran Women's Missionary League; Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; Retired Seniors Volunteer Program; Grandma's Bowling Team; and Happy Homemakers EHU.
On June 8, 1940, she married
August Koster at Natrona. He died Jan. 9, 2003.
Survivors include: three sons, Duane and Dale, both of Garden City, and Neil, Kearney, Neb.; two daughters, Pat Bridges, Garden City, and Marcia Koster-Carter, Wichita; a brother, Marvin Van Campen, Ramah, Colo.; a sister, Mildred Weber, Garden City; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Van Campen, and a sister, Gladys Sterling.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lyle Stuehrenberg presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Clement Lamatsch
ODIN - Clement "Clem" Lamatsch, 89, died Nov. 29, 2004, at his home, rural Odin.
He was born Sept. 18, 1915, in Barton County, the son of Frank and Margaret Kirmer Lamatsch. A lifetime resident of the Odin area, he was a retired farmer and stockman.
He belonged to Holy Family Church, Odin; was a member and past Grand Knight of Holy Family Council No. 2630 Knights of Columbus, Odin; a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a former state warden.
On Aug. 31, 1937, he married
Anna M. Sauber at Beaver. She died Nov. 7, 1981.
Survivors include: a son, Marvin and wife Carol, Claflin; three daughters, Lou Ann Morgenstern and husband Jerry, Hoisington, Doris Ross and husband Terry, Wichita, and Mary Davenport and husband Tim, Manhattan; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James; four brothers, Joe, Bill, Alois and Frank; four sisters, Josephine Boor, Leona Straub, Margaret Lamatsch and Maria Lamatsch; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Mayorga.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Church, Odin, with Father Pascal Klein presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Odin.

Harriet M. Mayo
Harriet Marcella Mayo, 94, died Nov. 29, 2004, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Sept. 10, 1910, at Claflin, the daughter of Robert Townsend and Wilhemina Johanna Piel Mayo. A resident of Hutchinson since 1991, formerly a longtime resident of Claflin, she was a postmaster at Claflin for 37 years. She retired June 30, 1972.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, Claflin; United Methodist Women; Self Culture Club; People-to-People International; Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic; Daughters of the Union Veterans; Barton County Historical Society; Red Cross Bloodmobile; Barton County Retired Teachers Association; Claflin Booster Club; Meals on Wheels; National Association Retired Federal Employees; and National Association of Postmasters; was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts; and served on the Central Kansas Council Nominating Committee.
Survivors include: a nephew and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Roberta Gibler, Gertrude Mix, Elizabeth Hartman and Marjorie Mayo.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Winona J. Kessler
DODGE CITY - Winona Jane Kessler, 90, died Nov. 29, 2004, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City.
She was born Feb. 5, 1914, at Lucerne, the daughter of Sidney Robert and Etta Catherine Fitzgerald Williams. She attended country school in Sheridan County.
She belonged to Order of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge and United Parish Church, all at Lenora.
On April 12, 1932, she married
Paul E. Kessler at Oberlin. He died Oct. 21, 1999.
Survivors include: two sons, the Rev. Duane, Melvern, and Lonnie, Austin, Texas; two daughters, Donna Mai, Dodge City, and Cheryl Dale, Manhattan; a sister, Wanda Schuhs, Leoti; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at United Parish Church, Lenora, with the Rev. Jack Kersenbrock presiding. Burial will be in Lenora South Cemetery.

Anita M. Goldberg
Anita M. Goldberg, 75, died Nov. 27, 2004, at her son's residence in Virginia Beach, Va.
She was born March 15, 1929, at Viroqua, Wis., the daughter of Albert and Sophia Nedland Anderson. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she worked as the registrar for Nickerson High School and was the assistant director of the Hutchinson Mothers Club Day Nursery.
She belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Elizabeth and Grace Hospital Auxiliary Board, the Hutchinson Secretaries Association, and was the first Secretary/Treasurer of the Reno County Genealogical Society.
On Feb. 2, 1951, she married
Leon Goldberg at Viroqua. He died Jan. 17, 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, David, Virginia Beach, and Richard, McPherson; two sisters, Marian Hayden, Viroqua, and Sadie Ellis, Fergus Falls, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Goldberg, Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Anderson.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Emanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Carey presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ivan D. Krug
LA CROSSE - Ivan Dow Krug, 74, died Dec. 18, 2004, at Hays Good Samaritan Center, Hays.
He was born Jan. 1, 1930, at La Crosse, the son of John and Freda H. Scheideman Krug. He graduated from La Crosse High School in 1948 and Kansas State University in 1953, attended Columbia Business School, New York City, and received a degree from Washburn Law School in 1959. He served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1961 to 1965. In 1966, he was elected Rush County Attorney and served until his retirement in 1997. He had a private law practice and was a farmer.
He belonged to La Crosse United Methodist Church, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Steel Ring, was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge, Pi Tau Sigma, Sigma Tau and Delta Theta Phi. He was founder of Kansas Barbed Wire Association.
On Aug. 16, 1959, he married
Verdel Wilson at Wellington. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Breon, Minneapolis, Minn., and Heath, Alliance, Neb.; a daughter, Brooke Liggett, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Aleta Crabtree, Leavenworth, and LaVada Hayworth, Venice, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at La Crosse United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Craig L. Eaton
DODGE CITY - Craig L. Eaton, 38, died Dec. 20, 2004, at his home in Dodge City.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1966, at Springfield, Ill., the son of Arlen and Corrine Claussen Eaton. He grew up in Littleton, Colo., and graduated from Littleton High School and from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor's degree. He was the office manager of Dodge City Co-op.
He belonged to Ducks Unlimited and Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
On Aug. 17, 2001, he married
Jan Poppe at Dodge City. She survives.
Other survivors include: his parents, Dodge City; two brothers, Alan, Dodge City, and David, Overland Park; a sister, Brenda Stewart, Minneola; a grandmother, Izola Eaton, Dodge City; and 22 nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl Nance presiding. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date.

Louis G. Lingo
SANTA PAULA, Calif. - Louis Gene Lingo, 59, died Dec. 11, 2004.
He was born March 21, 1945, at Los Angeles, the son of Oliver and Martha Gaede Lingo. He attended Santa Monica City College and Tabor College, Hillsboro. While at Tabor, he majored in biology, minored in chemistry and continued to pursue music. A resident of Santa Paula, Calif., since 1973, he was an instrumental band director for the Santa Paula Schools and Isbell Middle School. He was awarded Teacher of the Year for the Santa Paula School District in 1987, and he was a 2002 and 2004 Bravo Award for the Arts nominee. He took part in numerous musical groups and worship bands, and he also did missionary work at Cali, Colombia.
On Dec. 22, 1969, he married
Charlene Kay Ollenburger at Buhler. She survives.
Othe survivors include: a son; a daughter; and a brother.
Memorial service was held Dec. 16, 2004, at Ventura Missionary Church, Ventura, Calif. Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula, Calif., handled the arrangements.
