Mary K. Wendel
INGALLS - Mary K. Wendel, 66, died Jan. 28, 2005, at the Shepherds Center, Cimarron.

She was born Oct. 25, 1938, at Hugoton, the daughter of Charles Anthony and Frances Esther Bohn Pfeifer. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.

She belonged to St. Stanislaus Church, Altar Society and the Santa Fe Trail Museum, all at Ingalls.

On May 11, 1959, she married Leroy Wendel at Garden City. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Daniel Wendel, Ingalls; a daughter, Stephanie Bright, Oklahoma City; a brother, Paul Pfeifer, Holcomb; four sisters, Esther Gigot, Garden City, Carole Schwartz, Escondido, Calif., Rosalie Pfeifer, San Francisco, and Betty Rossman, Jackson Hole, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Church, Ingalls, with Father Joseph E. Bahr presiding. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Friends may call from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to St. Catherine Hospice or Gray County EMS, both in care of the funeral home.

Bessie B. Nieman
BUFFALO, Oklahoma - Bessie Blanche Nieman, 92, died Jan. 29, 2005, at Protection Valley Manor Nursing Home, Protection.

She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Clark County, the daughter of Hezikiah Edward and Edna Mabel McDonald Whittington. She attended grade school at Sunnyside Rural School, in Clark County, graduated from Protection, and received her teaching degree at Northwestern State College. She retired from teaching after 33 years from Buffalo Schools. She received the Teacher of the Year award in Harper County.

She belonged to United Methodist Church, Buffalo, Okla., and the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association.

On Oct. 7, 1934, she married Lester E. Nieman at her parents' home near Protection. He died July 23, 1982.

Survivors include: two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Filson Whittington; a sister, Florence Ruth Mosshart; and an infant baby sister.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Buffalo, Okla., with the Rev. Carolyn Murrow presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Myatt Funeral Home, Buffalo. Burial will be in Protection Cemetery, Protection.

Memorials may be sent to United Methodist Church or to Harper County Community Hospital, in care of the funeral home.

Richard H. Meadows
MERIDIAN, Idaho - Richard Harold Meadows, 86, died Jan. 23, 2005, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1918, at Darlow, the son of Charles and Ida Blanche Wilson Meadows. He graduated from Haven High School in 1937. He co-owned and operated Meadows and Moss trucking, now known as Ida-Cal Freight Lines, retiring as president in 1980.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On May 13, 1962, he married Maxine Diggs at Idaho. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son; three daughters; a brother, Charles Meadows, Yoder; a sister; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Harold's life will be from 2 to 5 p.m. March 26 at the family home in Meridian. No services will be held at his request.

Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

H. G. 'Bus' Corbet
HAVILAND - Herbet G. "Bus" Corbet, 85, died Jan. 28, 2005, at his home, North of Haviland.

He was born Feb. 20, 1919, at Pyle Ranch, the eighth son of Herbert Garfield and Daisy Dean Mulcahey Corbet. He graduated from Trousdale High School; he was a farmer.

He belonged to Grand Lodge of Kansas for 48 years.

On Aug. 2, 1943, he married Zita Marie Brown. She died Aug. 9, 1987.

Survivors include: two sons, Ralph H. and his wife Susie, Augusta, Clay Z. and his wife Susan, Haviland; a daughter, Donna Marie Meckfessel, Goddard; two sisters, Irene Tucker, Kalispell, Mont., and Eva Johnson Daubert, Pratt; two grandsons, Monty H. and Cody J. Corbet; five granddaughters, Teresa Lewis and her husband Chris, Dawn Marie Pruden and her husband Pat, Angie Powell and her husband Roger, Jodi Feltman and her husband Mike, and Callie Sue Corbet; and six great-grandchildren, Mason, Caitlin and Claire Lewis, Jenessa and Cassidy Corbet, Collin Pruden and Michael Feltman.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Ray D. and Myrl C. Corbet; and three sisters, Faye Long, Lucile Reece, and Edith Brown.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Haviland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Robinson presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fleener Funeral Chapel, Greensburg. Burial will be in Haviland Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. Beeler
BELOIT - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Beeler, 81, died Jan. 29, 2005, at her home, Beloit.

She was the mother of Ann Pfannenstiel, Hutchinson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beloit. Parish rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Daniel R. Ballantine
HAYS - Daniel Robert Ballantine, 50, died Jan. 28, 2005, at his home, Hays.

He was born June 30, 1954, at Great Bend, the son of Donald H. and Violet Ann Schartz Ballantine. A resident of Hays for two years, formerly of Wichita and Long Beach, Calif., he was a bartender and cook.

He served in the U.S. Marines.

Survivors include: his father, Byers; two brothers, Daryl, Byers and David, Odessa, Texas; two sisters, Sue Ballantine, Wichita, and Donna Scott, Hoisington.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Rosary will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kimple Funeral Chapel, Ellinwood, with Father John Maes presiding. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be in Lakin Comanche District Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Daniel Ballantine Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy Bolinger
CHENEY - Dorothy Bolinger, 90, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Cheney.

She was born June 18, 1914, at Anness, the daughter of Charles Enoch and Ida Mae Hessel Fearey. A resident of Cheney, she was a homemaker.

On Oct. 29, 1937, she married Lawrence E. Bolinger at Wichita. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles L., Cory, Colo., and J. Douglas, Cheney; four daughters, Judith Claar, Cimarron, Deanie Bolinger, Shawnee Mission, and Lyndal Bolinger and Susie Bolinger, both of Cheney; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Christian Church, Cheney, with Pastor Pat Nixon presiding. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Norwich.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity United Christian Church, 4-H Foundation or to the Salvation Army, all in care of Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain.

Debbra M. Ravellette
GARDEN CITY - Debbra M. Ravellette, 41, died Jan. 31, 2005, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.

She was born Aug. 28, 1963, at Garden City, the daughter of James R. and Peggy M. Odle Spor. A lifetime resident of Garden City, she attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Garden City High School. She worked at Daylight Donut, Dart-In and Hastings Music and Video, until opening a day care in her home.

Survivors include: two daughters, Crystall Ellmore, Croswell, Mich., and Alicia Ellmore, of the home; her mother, Garden City; two brothers, Robert and John Spor, both of Garden City; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Alicia Ellmore Education Fund, in care of the funeral home.

W. Raymond Daniels
SCOTT CITY - W. Raymond Daniels, 85, died Jan. 30, 2005, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.

He was born Aug. 29, 1919, in Scott County, the son of William H. and Ida Jane Binns Daniels. A lifetime resident of Scott County and Scott City, he was a farmer and stockman.

He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars, HGL Club and El Quartelejo Saddle Club, all at Scott City, and Kansas Livestock Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.

On Dec. 9, 1942, he married Neva M. Crist at LaJolla, Calif. She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Donna Samples, Abilene, and Jo Weatherbie, Princeton; a brother, Marvin, Scott City; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Jon Tuttle, presiding. Interment will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.

Memorials may be sent to Prairie View Church or to Scott County Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.

Juan L. Castillo
DODGE CITY - Juan Loza Castillo, 90, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Trinity Manor, Dodge City.

He was born March 12, 1914, at San Juan de Los Lagos, Mexico, the son of Juan Loza and Petra C. Perez. He graduated from Spearville High School in 1934 and attended Kansas State University, earning a minor in advanced Spanish. A lifetime resident of Spearville, he was one of the first flight attendants for Eastern Airlines, worked for United Fruit Co., Panama, and was a mail clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1956 until retiring June 3, 1977.

He belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of corporal, and received the EAME Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

On Oct. 17, 1949, he married Jeannine Meneu, at Verdun, France. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Rey, Spearville; a daughter, Marie Jose Capps, Spearville; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence; two brothers; and a sister.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no public visitation. A private family memorial was held.

Memorials may be sent to the donor's choice, in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

Beatrice G. Swanson
Beatrice G. Swanson, 93, died Jan. 22, 2005, at Infinia Care of Hutchinson.

She was born Sept. 23, 1911, at Neosho Falls, the daughter of Joel W. and Katherine E. Wilson Franklin. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker. She also worked at Cessna Aircraft, Wichita, during World War II.

She belonged to First Church of the Nazarene.

She married Archie Swanson. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a stepson, G.A. Swanson, Dalhart, Texas; and a brother, Victor Franklin, Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Oliver and Harold Franklin.

Private family services will be held.

Elliott Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
