BAZINE - Alvina Wittman Wilhelm, 91, died Jan. 30, 2005, at Ness County Long Term Care Center, Ness City.
She was born April 16, 1913, at Hoisington, the daughter of Jacob and Christina Rau Wittman. A resident of Ness City since 1997, moving from Bazine, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both at Bazine.
On Jan. 6, 1934, she married
Elmer Wilhelm, at Medicine Lodge. He died Jan. 20, 1994.
Survivors include: a brother, Richard Wittman, Riverview, Fla.; a sister, Jeanette Holmes, Fort Worth, Texas; and longtime caretakers, Dan and Patty Wittman, Bazine.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbert, Clarence and Harold Wittman; and four sisters, Lenora, Irene, Velma and Violet.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Bazine, with Pastor Deb Harvey presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Bazine Cemetery.

Gilbert P. Kaufman
MOUNDRIDGE - Gilbert "Gib" P. Kaufman, 69, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.
He was born Oct. 22, 1935, at Newton, the son of Paul D. and Linda L. Goering Kaufman. A lifetime Moundridge resident, he graduated from Moundridge High School in 1953. He was a dairy farmer.
He belonged to Eden Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge.
On Sept. 4, 1955, he married
Leda F. Buller at Buhler. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Brian L., Moundridge, and Warren G., McPherson; two daughters, Sondra J. Tolle, McPherson, and Lynelle B. Stucky, Moundridge; a brother, Gerald G., Inman; a sister, Karen K. Gaeddert, Bella Vista, Ark.; and11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eden Church Cemetery, rural Moundridge, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Eden Mennonite Church, with Ministers Lee Lever and Jim Ostlund presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 7 to 9 p.m., at Moundridge Funeral Home.

Albert Ryan Jr.
ULYSSES - Albert Ryan Jr., 86, died Jan. 23, 2005, at Capital Care, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
He was born Nov. 8, 1918, at Dewey, Okla., the son of Albert Sr. "Paw-Paw" and Martha Jane Ryan Danny.
On Jan. 1, 1940, he married
Delphia Van Brunt, at Norman, Okla. She died Dec. 7, 1984. In 1985, he married
Dorothy Zurch. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son; a daughter, Patricia Fort, Ulysses; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Frank L. Pritchett
KINGSDOWN - Frank L. Pritchett, 74, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Minneola District Hospital.
He was born Oct. 23, 1930, at Meade, the son of Ralph and Alma Feldman Pritchett. He attended Dodge City Community College. He grew up in Minneola but also lived in Dodge City and Roy, N.M.; he was a truck driver for the Dodge City Co-Op.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Kingsdown. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
On Jan. 2, 1951, he married
Geneva Lovell at Tucumcari, N.M. She died June 17, 2002.
Survivors include: three sons, Calvin, Phoenix, Robert, Cimarron, and Timothy, Kingsdown; three daughters, Kathleen Allen Hubbard, West Branson, Mo., and Brenda Sallee and Tracy Pritchett Stout, both of Bucklin; two brothers, Kenneth, Rush, Colo., and James, Dodge City; two sisters, Maurine Perry, Keota, Okla., and Karen Jackson, Kingsdown; 22 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Atwater Cemetery, south of Meade, with the Rev. Orlando Jantz presiding. Cremation has taken place. There will be no public visitation.

A. Rex Cozad
A. Rex Cozad, 87, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born July 2, 1917, at Norcatur, the son of Charles Albert and Naomi Sarah Smith Cozad. A longtime Norcatur community resident, moving to Hutchinson in 1974, he was a farmer and stockman mostly in the Norcatur community.
He belonged to Lyle United Methodist Church. He served on various Norcatur community boards including; Soil & Water Conservation District, Federal Land Bank Director, Farm & Home Administrator; one term as State Representative for Decatur County, eight years on Kansas Wheat Commission, two years as chairman and one year as administrator. After moving to Hutchinson, he served on the Great Plains Wheat Commission, Chairman for the Democrat Party in Reno County, and was appointed to the Silver Haired Legislature.
On Oct. 10, 1936, he married
Merle N. Knutson at Oberlin. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David and wife Karen, Norton; a daughter, Mary Vanderburg and husband, Bill, Clinton, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John, a daughter, Beverly Morton; a brother, Van, two sisters, Mildred Mayo and sibling Maude Cozad.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Norcatur United Methodist Church, with Pastors Kathy Aeillo and Carol Woodmansee presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Enfield Funeral Home, Norton. Burial will be in Lyle Cemetery.

Jess Richmond
MARION - Jess Richmond, 88, died Jan. 30, 2005, at his home, Marion.
He was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Marion County, the son of George and Lena Kreutziger Richmond. He retired from Boeing, Wichita, as a flight line mechanic.
On Oct. 17, 1982, he married
Irene Smith at Marion. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Kurt, Aledo, Ill.; two daughters, Reta Myers, Minneola, Texas, and Connie Stephens, Emporia; a sister, Jane Williams, Marion; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Madsen.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Emanuel Baptist Church, Marion, with the Revs. Bill Sherfy and David Branson presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery. Mildred F. Knop
PRATT - Mildred F. Knop, 104, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Pratt Regional Living Center, Pratt.
She was born Feb. 28, 1900, at Valley Falls, the daughter of Wilbur J. and Laura E. Hosler Stewart. Graduating from Preston High School in 1918, she taught school in Minneola and Zenith/Neola area. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Preston EHU, Carmi Club, PRMC Auxiliary and Natrona Ladies Aid.
On April 30, 1922, she married
Leo Knop at Meade. He died Oct. 20, 1983.
Survivors include: a son, William and wife Marge, Tyrone; three daughters, Marilyn Stewart, Pratt, Vivian Locke, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Blossom Newell and husband Raymond, Canadian, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Knop, Littleton, Colo; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, George; a daughter, Caroline Jorns; two brothers, Cecil Stewart and Melvin Stewart; and six sisters, Hazel Hamilton, Estella Blurton, Bernice Burk, Thelma Beck, Gladys Stewart and Elfa Parker.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preston/Natrona, with Pastor Michael Schotte presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Natrona.

Ardath L. Avery
Ardath Lucille Avery, 80, died Jan. 28, 2005, at The Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 29, 1924, at Lovewell, the daughter of Roy Theodore and Anna Alvira Robinette Quick. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she graduated from Haviland Academy in 1942, was an Avon representative for 10 years and retired from Hutchinson Hospital.
She belonged to Friends Church, Hutchinson.
On Oct. 1, 1943, she married
Merton Henry Smith, at Pratt. He died Sept. 3, 1963. On March 1, 1980, she married
Frank Lesley Avery, at Sterling. He died Dec. 23, 1989.
Survivors include: four sons, Phillip Smith, Hutchinson; Larry Smith, Phoenix; Brent Hobbs, Branson, Mo.; and Robert Smith, Phoenix; three daughters, Deanna James, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Paula Clements, Tecumseh, Neb.; and Cynthia Moore, South Hutchinson; two brothers, John H. Quick, Hutchinson; and Eldon Quick, Rantoul, Ill.; a sister, Norma J. Dunlap, Hutchinson; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dallas D. Quick; an infant brother, Wendell Quick; and a great-grandson, Jarrod Carroll.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday at Friends Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Gary D. Getting presiding. Burial was in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Diana D. Eastman
KINSLEY - Diana D. Eastman, 62, died Dec. 27, 2004, at Edwards County Hospital, Kinsley.
She was born May 9, 1942, at Larned, the daughter of Chester and Thelma Cummings Clarkson. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.
On Sept. 8, 1985, she married
John C. Eastman at Kinsley. He survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Jay Cramer, Gillette, Wyo., Joe Cramer, Kailu, Hawaii, Jeff Cramer, Kinsley, and Jack Eastman, Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Janell Herrmann and Janette Eastman, both Kinsley; and 10 grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with Father Nicanor Ferangco presiding. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Kinsley.

Ida M. Hennigh
DODGE CITY - Ida M. Hennigh, 94, died Dec. 26, 2004, at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born Dec. 10, 1910, at Beaver, Okla., the daughter of Ernest Carl and Dora Jane Bever Savoy. In 1937, she received her bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University. A Dodge City resident since May 2003, moving from Woodward, she was a home economics and English teacher, having taught at schools in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Wyoming. She lived on a farm in the Oklahoma Panhandle all of her married
life.
On June 6, 1938, she married
Harold Hennigh at Medicine Lodge. He died Dec. 13, 1981.
Survivors include: a son, Barry, Center, Colo.; a daughter, Beth Bothell, Dodge City; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lind, seven brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Englewood Cemetery, Englewood. There will be no public visitation.
