Bonnie Mae Sickbert
NEWTON - Bonnie Mae Sickbert, 93, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor, Newton.
She was born July 28, 1911, at Neodesha, the daughter of Jonah Elmer and Mary Roletta Abbott Bryson. A resident of Newton since 1999, formerly of Sedgwick, she was a secretary for United Methodist Youthville, Newton.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Sedgwick.
On May 29, 1930, she married
James Virgil Shepherd at Columbus. He died June 5, 1980. On July 25, 1981, she married
Reuben Daniel Sickbert at Sedgwick. He survives.
Survivors include: a daughter, Bonnie Darlene Giffin, Little Rock, Ark.; three stepsons, Wallace Sickbert, Overland Park, James Sickbert, Great Bend, and Gary Sickbert, Argent, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Arnold, Fort Collins, Colo., and Cheryl Okonek, Coon Rapids, Minn.; a brother, Louis Bryson, El Dorado; a sister, Betty Hicks, Neodesha; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dixie Bomholt; two brothers, Frank and Elmer Bryson; a sister, Myrtle Kilmer; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, with the Rev. Kim Beckwith presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.

Gary L. Stucky
NORTH NEWTON - Gary L. Stucky, 63, died Jan. 30, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
He was born May 18, 1941, near Kingman, the son of Martin and Ruby Stucky Stucky. He was educated at Kingman High School, Bethel College and Kansas State University. He later completed pastoral studies training at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. In 1971 and 1972 he undertook tropical disease research with Mennonite Central Committee in the nation of D.R. Congo. He was employed as research chemist for four years by Miles Laboratories, Elkhart, Ind., then for nearly 25 years taught as professor of chemistry at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va., with teaching posts also at University of Rochester (N.Y.) James Madison University and Bethel College. He served as a chaplain in Virginia, was commissioned as a chaplain by Western District Conference of Mennonite Church, USA, in January 2003, and served in the Newton area.
On June 22, 1996, he married
Janet C. Harder. She survives.
Other survivors include: his mother, Pretty Prairie; three brothers, Steve, Dave, and Gordon, all of Kingman; and many nephews and nieces.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel College Mennonite Church, North Newton, with Pastor Norma Johnson presiding. His body is donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Velma L. Chance
FOWLER - Velma Lee Chance, 78, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Pratt Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 8, 1927, at Glendale, the daughter of the Rev. Lee H. and Mercy Wagner Stevens. She attended school at Friends Bible Academy, Haviland. A Fowler resident since 1955, she worked with her husband as an officer and director of Fowler State Bank for many years, retiring in 2003.
She was a lifelong member of Fowler Friends Church, serving on various committees and as organist and pianist.
On June 3, 1945, she married
Voyle E. Chance at Rose Hill. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Lynn E. and Larry S., both of Fowler; a daughter, Lorene K. Humphreys, Sterling; six grandsons; and two granddaughters.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Friends Church, Fowler, with Pastors Galen Hinshaw and Scott Morin presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will be in Fowler Cemetery.

Fay E. James
HUGOTON - Fay Elnora James, 94, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
She was born Nov. 18, 1910, at Ellsworth, the daughter of Harry and Rena Williams Brown. Spending most of her life in Stevens County, she taught school at Hugoton and at Harrison Training Center and Washington Elementary, both at Liberal. After her husband's death, she moved to Columbus to be near her daughters.
She belonged to El Bethel Baptist Church and Church of God, both at Hugoton, and Sandhill Unit, Kansas Association for Retarded Citizens.
On Jan. 6, 1941, she married
Harold Franklin James Sr. in Haskell County. He died Jan. 28, 2003.
Survivors include: a son, Harold James Jr., League City, Texas; two daughters, Dr. Brenda Joyce James and Dr. Linda James Myers, both of Columbus; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Brown.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of God, Hugoton, with Pastor Bill Vincent presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Lorea G. Abel
DODGE CITY - Lorea Grace Abel, 70, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.
She was born Sept. 24, 1934, at Dodge City, the daughter of Cyril Fredrick and Rhea Rachel Crego Trent. A lifetime Dodge City resident, she worked at Gamble's store, Dodge City Medical Center and later at First National Bank of Dodge City for more than 30 years.
On July 7, 1951, she married
Jimmy Abel Sr. at Clayton, N.M. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jim, Dodge City; a daughter, Kim Cunningham, Dodge City; a brother, Butch Trent, Dodge City; two sisters, Karen Rader, Dodge City, and Norma Bean, Great Bend; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Virginia L. Boyd
NEWTON - Virginia Lee Boyd, 92, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor, Newton.
She was born July 7, 1912, at Chicota, Texas, the daughter of M.T. and Effie McEwin Lee. She attended Wichita State University where she received her master's degree in library science. A resident of Newton, she was employed as a teacher in the public school system and also at St. Mary's Catholic Schools, both at Newton.
She belonged to First United Presbyterian Church, Newton, where she served as an elder. She was a member of Delta Gamma, AAUW, the Kansas Retired Teacher's Association, Aldine Club, Lady Lioness and the American Library Association.
On July 15, 1933, she married
Lewis Carroll Boyd Sr. at Madill, Okla. He died Aug. 15, 1982.
Survivors include: two sons, Lewis C. Jr., Grayslake, Ill., and Bill, Statesville, N.C.; a daughter, Jane Owczarzak, San Jose, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Porter Lee.
Services will be at Chicota, Texas. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Chicota Cemetery.

Mary H. Day Anschutz, 91, died Jan. 31, 2005.
She was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Russell County. A resident of Hutchinson and Lucas, she was a homemaker.
She married
Raymond Anschutz. He died in 1983.
Survivors include: two sons, Darrell, Hutchinson, and Robert, Bogard, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Reid and Evert; and a daughter, Ella M. Lundblom.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lucas. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rodrick and Minear Funeral Home Chapel, Lucas. Burial will be in Lucas Cemetery, Lucas.

Andrew Kerr Keenan
NESS CITY - Andrew Kerr Keenan, 26, died Jan. 31, 2005, at his home, Lawrence, as the result of GBM brain cancer.
He was born Oct. 11, 1978, at Ness City, the son of Terrence Lee "Terry" and Gloria Jane Kerr Keenan. He graduated from Fort Hays State University and the University of Kansas School of Law, where he received his juris doctorate of law. He recently was honored at the Docking Institute for Public Affairs at the Fort Hays campus with a lab named Keenan Lab.
Survivors include: his soulmate, Erica Rachel Brown, Olathe; his parents, Ness City; a brother, Brett Dale, Ness City; a sister, Jill Marie Chesterman, Hutchinson; grandmother, Elvira Kerr, Ness City; two nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Henry Hildebrandt presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and from 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the church. Vivian H. Anschutz
DORRANCE - Vivian H. Anschutz, 90, died Jan. 31, 2005, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 16, 1914, at Dorrance, the daughter of John P. and Ida Garrett Thielen. A lifetime Dorrance area resident, she was a nursing assistant and homemaker.
She belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dorrance, and St. Joseph's Altar Society.
In 1935, she married
Louis G. Anschutz at Russell. He died Feb. 5, 1994.
Survivors include: a son, Norman, Russell; three daughters, Joyce Barker and Eileen Keenan, both of Great Bend; and Ellen Spaulding, Andover; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dorrance, with Father David Metz presiding. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with Parish vigil at 7 p.m., all at Foster Mortuary, Wilson. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery, Dorrance.

Roberta Scheideman
SCOTT CITY - Roberta L. Scheideman, 83, died Feb. 1, 2005, at her daughter's residence in Overbrook.
She was born May 7, 1921, at Modoc, the daughter of Robert and Minnie May Luton Sturgeon. She spent most of her life in Scott County with her early residence in Modoc. She graduated from Scott City High School and attended San Mateo Junior College in San Mateo, Calif. She was a homemaker and took an active part on the family ranch.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Study Club and Circle. She was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron.
On Feb. 2, 1941, she married
Carl L. Scheideman in San Mateo. He died Jan. 12, 1998.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert C., Salem, Ore., and Kyle, Berryton; two daughters, Jacqueline Reid-Peterson, Overbrook, and Cynthia L. Scheideman-Miller, Piedmont, Okla.; three sisters, Alta Eales, Hutchinson, Ruth Clark, San Mateo, Calif., and Ester Mary LaPorte, San Lorenzo, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Nelson Sturgeon; and two sisters, Elsie Hushaw and Ella May Hantla.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Scott City. Burial will follow in Scott County Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.
