Lena F. Marteney
BUHLER - Lena F. Marteney, 78, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.

She was born Feb. 11, 1926, at Elkhart, the daughter of Robert Clinton Gibbons and Florence Gibbons Jones. She was a homemaker, Girl Scout Leader and a volunteer at Buhler Sunshine Home.

On Sept. 30, 1943, she married Leonard Marteney. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Richard and wife Pat, Wamego; three daughters, Jackie Lee and husband Bill, Basehor, Barbara Wait and husband Eric, Ogallala, Neb., and Becky Tatro and husband Bob, McPherson; a brother, Rex Gibbons and wife Tiny, Lamar, Colo.; twin sisters, Fannie Burnett, Clifton, Colo., and Jennie Brown, Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross and Lester; and a half sister, Arlene.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brent Clayton presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Buhler Mortuary, Buhler. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to the church, Pleasant View Home or to Hospice Care of Kansas, McPherson, all in care of the mortuary.

Tim L. Petz
MIDLAND, Texas - Tim L. Petz, 54, died Jan. 27, 2005, at Midland.

He was born Aug. 25, 1950, at Great Bend, the son of Donald and Dolores Kowalsky Petz. He attended school at McCracken and worked for Permian Petroleum for more than three years. At one time, he owned a welding business.

Survivors include: his wife, Dee; his mother, McCracken; a son, Troy, Hutchinson; a daughter, Mellissa Lee, Great Bend; four brothers, including Dan and Kirby, both of McCracken; and a sister, Sherry A. Petz, McCracken.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home Chapel, La Crosse, with Father Charles Mazouch presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Kenneth L. Betsworth
HUGOTON - Kenneth Leo Betsworth, 92, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.

He was born July 31, 1912, in Dewey County, Okla., the son of Leo W. and Leota Woods Betsworth. A Hugoton resident since childhood, he was a farmer, oil field laborer and plumber, owning Kenny Plumbing in Hugoton for many years. He was active in Hugoton Senior Center.

On May 7, 1934, he married Goldie Cobb at Hooker, Okla. She died Oct. 21, 1961. In 1962, he married Doris M. Redpath Nordyke at Clayton, N.M. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Ronald K., San Diego, Doug C., Richwood, Texas, and Lindsay W., Flower Mound, Texas; three stepsons, Clinton and Bill Nordyke, both of Ind., and Jim Nordyke, Tulsa, Okla.; four daughters, Evelyn L. McBride, Hugoton, Carmaleta Moore, Big Bow, Gerry Bradford, Lufkin, Texas, and Sharon Barker, Fargo, N.D.; a stepdaughter, Phyllis Duncan, Liberal; two sisters, June Averitt, Duncan, Okla., and Rita Hawks, Omaha, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; everal step-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with Minister Jeff Aenk and Kenneth's son Ronald K. Betsworth presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Stevens County Senior Center, First Christian Church or to the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

Katherine R. Holzrichter
NEWTON - Katherine Regier Holzrichter, 90, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

She was born July 28, 1914, at Inman, the daughter of Martin W. and Anna Friesen Doerksen. A resident of Newton, she had farmed in the Sedgwick, Halstead and Newton areas. She had worked as a cook at Halstead Schools and had worked for Halstead Hospital. She was a past member of First Mennonite Church, Halstead, the 72 Quilters, Mary Martha and had been a 4-H leader. She belonged to Buhler Mennonite Church and Harvey County HDU.

On May 22, 1941, she married Carl C. Regier. He died Nov. 11, 1981. On April 13, 1991, she married Jacob A. Holzrichter. He died April 26, 2002.

Survivors include: five daughters, Anna Marie Harder and husband Willis E., Newton, Katherine Kaufman and husband Gary, Overland Park, Marlene Bachtel and husband Jim, Lenexa, Carla Singer, Miami, Okla., and Kristine Regier, Clear Lake, Iowa; a sister, Marie Goering, Aurora, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hank, Menno and Marvin; and a son-in-law, Ken Singer.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buhler Mennonite Church, Buhler, with Pastor Bob Dalke presiding. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Halstead Cemetery, Halstead.

Memorials may be sent to Mennonite Central Committee, in care of Buhler Mortuary, 120 North Main, Buhler, KS 67522.

Wilma J. Rowe
SEDGWICK - Wilma June Rowe, 76, died Dec. 31, 2004, at the Via Christi Inpatient Hospice Unit, Wichita.

She was born Dec. 13, 1928, at Wichita, the daughter of William M. and Pearl I. Smith Harp. She was a homemaker and sheet metal assembler for Boeing and Learjet.

She married Jerry A. Rowe in September 1952 at Wichita. He preceded her in death April 20, 1986.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael and Mark, both of Sedgwick; two daughters, Jeanette Ross, Halstead, and Janice Rowe, Wichita; a brother, Richard Harp, Wichita; four sisters, Pansy Jones and Hilda Brownlee, both of Wichita, Sharon Marsh, Halstead and Kay Garrett, Arlington, Texas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Walter and Dalton Harp; and a sister, Hazel Sumner.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.

Memorials may be sent to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, in care of the funeral home.

Juanita V. Tarpley
GARDEN CITY - Juanita V. Tarpley, 92, died Dec. 31, 2004, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City.

She was born June 18, 1912, at Tabler, Okla., the daughter of Sterling M. and Winnie Pearl Key Tarpley. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1934 and taught school in Anadarko, Okla. A resident of Garden City since 1965, she was a schoolteacher.

She was of the Methodist faith. She belonged to the Kansas Retired Teachers Association, AARP, Community Concert Association and Friends of the Zoo.

Survivors include: two brothers, Raymond, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sterling M., Golden, Colo.; and a sister, Addie Lee Colclasure, Rogers, Ark.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert M.; and a sister, Eulalia I. Tarpley.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins presiding. An additional funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Hackney Funeral Home, Anadarko, with the Rev. Chuck Gilbert presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Smith-Hackney Funeral Home, Anadarko. Interment will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko.

Truman D. Stimatze
ST. JOHN - Truman Deyo Stimatze, 87, died Dec. 29, 2004, at Kansas Soldiers Home, Fort Dodge.

He was born Sept. 11, 1917, at rural St. John, the son of Clyde W. and Jennie DeGarmo Stimatze. A lifetime resident of St. John, he was a construction worker.

A U.S. Air Force Veteran during World War II, he belonged to the VFW, St. John.

Survivors include: a brother, Leo, Byers; and two sisters, Opal Covey and Lois Spencer, both of Ulysses.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carrol J. and Orban C.; and a sister, Ruby Brickey.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with the Pastor Robbie Fall presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Neelands Cemetery, St. John.

Memorials may be sent to Kansas Soldiers Home, in care of the funeral home.

Darold P. Stephenson
LITTLE RIVER - Darold Patrick Stephenson, 51, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Little River.

He was born Jan. 29, 1953, at Little River, the son of Lynne E. and Jean Marie Cordell Stephenson. A resident of Coffeyville since 1982, moving from Little River, he graduated from Little River High School in 1971 and Barton County Junior College and attended Friends University. He worked for MAPCO for 27 years, recently retiring from Windsor Place Nursing Home, maintenance department.

He belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, was past president of Sertoma and was a 10-year volunteer assistant basketball coach at Coffeyville Community College.

Survivors include: a companion, Susan Brown, Coffeyville; his mother, Jean Marie, Little River; two brothers, Dan and Russell, both of Little River; and four sisters, Cathy Johnson, Little River, Carol Patterson, Farmington, N.M., Teresa Buchanan, Wichita, and Ann Herrera, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lynne.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Little River, with Father Juan Garza presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Bean Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Coffeyville Red Raven Men's Basketball Program or to Southeast Kansas American Cancer Society, in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons.

The Rev. Dr. Charles R. Ledin
The Rev. Dr. Charles R. Ledin, 80, died Jan. 1, 2005, at his home, Hutchinson.

He was born June 8, 1924, at Mora, Minn., the son of Arvid R. and Esther Johnson Ledin. He was a pastor of the Lutheran faith for 44 and a half years.

He was a graduate from Lutheran Bible Institute, Seattle, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn., and Lutheran School of Theology, Rock Island, Ill. He received his doctorate in theology at Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago. He was ordained in 1960 as a pastor in the ELCA. He served congregations in South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma before retiring in 1992. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. A resident of Hutchinson since 1992, he served as an Interim Pastor in Missouri and Kansas.

On Nov. 27, 1952, he married Lillian "Ruth" Hague at Des Moines, IA. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Jon, James and Karl, all of Hutchinson; a daughter, Kathy Cline, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, with Dr. James Davis and Pastor Robert Albin presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.

Bonnie J. Davidson
Bonnie J. Davidson, 77, died Dec. 31, 2004, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Hutchinson.

She was born Jan. 31, 1927, at Olpe, the daughter of Delbert J. and Mildred E. Lamoureux Clopton. She was a homemaker.

She grew up in the Madison community and graduated from Madison High School in 1945, living in the Madison-Eureka area, Newton, Pratt and moving to Hutchinson in 2000.

She belonged to United Methodist Church, Madison and Pratt.

She married Edward C. Davidson at Madison.

Survivors include: a son, Loren Lynn Hayden, Sterling; a daughter, Connie Yust, Hutchinson; three brothers, Keith, Eureka, and J.D. and Delbert, both of Emporia; two sisters, Carolee Clopton and Mary Turner, both of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Madison. Visitation with the family present will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home, Madison. Burial will be in Blakely Cemetery, Madison.

Memorials may be sent to Elm Grove Estates, in care of the funeral home.
