Freddie D. Walls
GREAT BEND - Freddie D. Walls, 75, died Jan. 1, 2005, at his home, Great Bend.
He was born April 25, 1929, at St. John, the son of Fred C. and Ruth Shotton Walls. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer, rancher and owner-operator of Jandie Production Co. Inc.
He belonged to Peace United Church of Christ, Hudson, the National Sorghum Association and National Corn Growers Association. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
In May 1999, he married
Barbara Jane Hall at Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Keith Rose, Kansas City, Mo.; six daughters, Karol Hickel, WaKeeney, Jeanne Young, Seward, Shirley Yunker, Hays, Sharon Elliott, Nickerson, Kelli and Karen Hall, both of the home; two brothers, Charles, Ulysses, and George, St. John; two sisters, Juanita Poorman, Chicago, and Della Anderson, Riverton, Wyo.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evon Scholtterbeck and Violet Nikkel.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Josephine Giesbrecht
MONTEZUMA - Josephine Giesbrecht, 78, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma.
She was born Jan. 28, 1926, at Montezuma, the daughter of Cornelius and Alda Koehn Koehn.
A longtime resident of Montezuma, she also lived in Geiger, Ala. She was a registered nurse.
She belonged to Southern Star Mennonite Church, Geiger, Ala.
On Jan. 30, 1999, she married
Pete Giesbrecht at Livingston, Calif. He survives.
Other survivors include: a stepson, Dale, Scooba, Miss.; three stepdaughters, Lazetta Koehn, Brooksville, Miss., and Susie Koehn and Maxine Giesbrecht, both at Scooba, Miss.; three sisters, Ida Jantz, Livingston, Calif., Susie Schmidt, Pearce, Ariz., and Rosella Millsap, New Plymouth, Idaho; 10 stepgrandchildren, 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Koehn; and two sisters, Alvina and Virginia May Koehn.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Southern Star Mennonite Church, Geiger, Ala., with Ministers Harold Schmidt and Alan Nichols presiding. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Montezuma Funeral home. Burial will be in Souls Chapel Cemetery, Geiger, Ala.

John P. Burke
KINSLEY - John P. Burke, 71, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.
He was born Feb. 24, 1933, at Spearville, the son of John J. and Anna M. Farrell Burke. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer.
He belonged to Knights of Columbus Council No. 1539, Spearville.
Survivors include a brother, Martin, Levant.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hodgeman County, with Father Jack Cuddigan presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Dotty Miller
MEDICINE LODGE - Dotty Ricke Miller, 78, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.
She was born Dec. 27, 1926, at Sharon, the daughter of Theodore and Violet Bowman Ricke.
She graduated from Sharon High School and attended Wichita Business College and Computer School in Oklahoma City. A lifetime resident of Barber County, she was a receptionist and worked in the insurance department at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.
She belonged to St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles Bird, Alva, Okla., and Lowrie Bird, Colorado City, Colo.; two daughters, Vonda Landwehr, Sharon and Ronda Williamson, Bixby, Okla.; four brothers, Jim, Frank and Glenn, all of Medicine Lodge, and Paul Ricke, Hazelton; three sisters, Lois Watt, Kiowa, Wanda Harding, Medicine Lodge, and Fonda Lawrence, Norton; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Bob Ricke.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, with the Rev. John Strasser presiding. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Larrison Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Norma G. Archer
LARNED - Norma G. Archer, 89, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
She was born March 21, 1915, at Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Susie Boase Koehn. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a retired mental health technician and homemaker.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both at Larned.
On Nov. 20, 1937, she married
Gerald Lee Archer at Dodge City. He preceded her in death, July 9, 1994.
Survivors include: two sons, Craig, Derby, and Brian, Hutchinson; a daughter, Mona Archer, Louisville, Colo.; a sister, Gladys Hungate, Larned; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Pastor Tim Ault-Duell presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.

Gladys I. Scranton
LIBERAL - Gladys I. Scranton, 106, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center, Liberal.
She was born Aug. 20, 1898, at Langdon, the daughter of Joseph W. and Florence I. Popejoy Bates.
She moved with her family to Bryon, Okla., and returned to Langdon in 1904, where she attended a country school. In 1926, she and her family moved to Stevens County, where they were involved in farming. She moved to Liberal in 1973. She was an avid piano player, enjoying ragtime music, playing piano for movie theaters during the silent movie era. She was a homemaker.
She belonged to Hugoton Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxlliary, Hugoton.
On Dec. 15, 1930, she married
Ira E. Scranton at Hugoton. He preceded her in death, Dec. 15, 1959.
Survivors include: a son, Beryl, Liberal; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.
Ada M. Davis
ABILENE - Ada Mae Davis, 74, died Jan. 1, 2005, at Sterling House No. 2, Abilene.
She was the mother of John Davis, Offerle, and Terry Davis, McPherson.
Graveside service will be at noon Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center. Danner Funeral Home, Abilene is charge of arrangements.
MarXaylon K. Worthey
DODGE CITY - MarXaylon Kelly-June Worthey, 15 days old, died Jan. 19, 2005, at Dodge City.
She was born Jan. 4, 2005, at Dodge City, the daughter of Adan Hernandez and Misty June Worthey.
Survivors include: parents, Dodge City; grandmother, Debbie Zarate, Dodge City; and great-grandfather, Norman Worthey, Mooreland, Okla.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandmother, Wilma Worthey.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sacred Heart Chapel, Dodge City, with Father Ted A. Skalsky presiding. Velma A. Dunbar
HESSTON - Velma A. Dunbar, 92, died Jan. 22, 2005, at Newton Medical Center.
She was born March 31, 1912, at Harper, the daughter of William E. and Emma Shepp Detweiler. A resident of Hesston since 1978, formerly of Harper and Newton, she was a housekeeper and dietary food service worker.
She belonged to Immanuel Baptist Church, Newton.
On April 1, 1954, she married
Howard Dunbar, at Harper. He died Nov. 10, 1969.
Survivors include: a stepson, Gene Dunbar, Clearwater; and several step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schowalter Villa Chapel, Hesston. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Miller Funeral Home, Hesston. Burial will be in Hesston Cemetery.

Max D. Lacey
SUNRAY, Texas - Max David Lacey, 78, died Jan. 20, 2005, at Oklahoma Veterans Center, Clinton, Okla.
He was born Oct. 5, 1926, the son of Ray and Ethel Lewis Lacey. He worked at the Scott City Kansas Century Refinery as a dispatcher.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.
On June 24, 1953, he married
Shelida Madden, at Hoxie. In 1972, he married
Mary Ellen Pollman. She died in 1988.
Survivors include: three sons, including, Craig, Sterling; three brothers; a sister; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lane Memorial Cemetery, Sunray, with the Rev. David Purl presiding.
