Leonard E. Ewing
ULYSSES - Leonard Eugene Ewing, 83, died Jan. 8, 2005, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital, Ulysses.

He was born Oct. 20, 1921, at Viola, the son of Chester Glen and Ruby Moore Ewing. He graduated from Hartman County High School in 1941.

A resident of Ulysses since 1965, moving from Garden City, he was a truck driver for Farmland Industries, Garden City, for 23 years, and Big-R, Ulysses, for several years before retiring.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years on a merchant marine ship, making one trip around the world.

He belonged to Family Worship Center International Church, Ulysses.

On Jan. 6, 1950, he married Margie June Allison at Raton, N.M. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Roderick "Rod" Eugene, Satanta; two daughters, Valerie Jannett Wright, Kansas City, Mo., and Kim Suzanne Ewing, Ulysses; a brother, Chester Ewing, Overland Park; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Ewing; a sister, Alice McLaughlin; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Brethren Church, Ulysses, with Pastor David Lee presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery, with military graveside services.

Memorials may be sent to Family Worship Center International Church or Grant County Senior Center, both in care of the funeral home.

Regina T. Dome
DODGE CITY - Regina T. Dome, 81, died Jan. 8, 2005, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

She was born June 11, 1923, at Munjor, the daughter of Alexander and Mary Pfannenstiel Hertel. She attended Ness City schools and Dodge City Senior High School. She was a resident of Dodge City, moving from Cimarron.

She belonged to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Dodge City.

On July 13, 1942, she married LeRoy C. Dome at Ingalls. He died on Sept. 11, 2000.

Survivors include: a son, Bob, Dodge City; four daughters, Joan Blankman, Jane Creamer, Margie German and Sharon Lohrenz, all of Dodge City; a brother, Eddie Hertel, Dodge City; two sisters, Agnes Beckerdite, Dodge City, and Mary Dinkel, Victoria; a companion, Glen Mauch, Dodge City; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with the Rev. Ted Skalsky presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Swain Funeral Home, Dodge City. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Loveta Day
DODGE CITY - Loveta Day, 89, died Jan. 9, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.

She was born Aug. 25, 1915, at Logan County, the daughter of George E. and Edna McDaniel Wood. She was a graduate of Dodge City Senior High School. A resident of Dodge City since 1931, she was active in her church, teaching Sunday school and Menninger Bible Class for many years.

She belonged to First Christian Church, Ford County Extension Unit, D.A.R. and National Genealogical Society.

On Nov. 15, 1936, she married Sparlen Day at Dodge City. He died Aug. 15, 1998.

Survivors include: a daughter, Virginia Spena, Berryton; three granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with the Rev. Gerald C. Rendel presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greencrest Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.

Bill Dutoit
DIGHTON - Bill Dutoit, 78, died Jan. 7, 2005, at Lane County Long Term Care Unit, Dighton.

He was born Oct. 26, 1926, at Dighton, the son of Earl and Mae Tough Dutoit. He attended school in Dighton, graduating in 1944. He attended one year of business college. A longtime resident of Dighton, moving from Salem, Ore., he was a partner in a plumbing business and worked at the Dighton Lumber Yard for 15 years and the I.G.A. store for 9 years. In 1979, he went to work for the city of Dighton, retiring in 1992 after serving as Dighton city manager for three years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.

He belonged to American Legion No. 190, Barney Masonic Lodge No. 279, VFW No. 6438 and First Christian Church. He was a member of the Dighton and Lane County fire departments, serving for 40 years, most of that as fire chief, and was past representative of the Silver Haired Legislature, a deacon at his church and past chairman of the J.O.Y. Center.

On March 25, 1945, he married Donna Whiting at Scott City. She died Nov. 6, 2004.

Survivors include: a son, Brent, Dighton; a daughter, Diana Gaunit, Junction City; a sister, Arlene Jelden, Salem, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother; and a brother, Duane.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Howard Bever presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Boomhower Funeral Home. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by American Legion No. 190 Honor Guard and Barney Masonic Lodge No. 279.

Memorials may be sent to Dighton Fire Department, in care of the funeral home.

Keith Litton
CIMARRON - Keith Litton, 70, died Jan. 8, 2005, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

He was born June 15, 1934, at Gove County, the son of Halbert and Louise George Litton. He founded General Pest Control in 1978, retiring in the late 1990s.

He belonged to First Christian Church, Kansas Pest Control Association and National Pest Control Association.

On Sept. 5, 1991, he married Wanda Owens at Oakley. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Kyle, Ingalls, Kurt, Dodge City, and Lonnie, Cimarron; four daughters, Penny Ottley, Oakley, Rhonda Litton, Aurora, Colo., Karen Good, Montezuma, and Marcie Heady, Kalvesta; three stepsons, Charles Fullerton, Dumas, Texas, Shane Fullerton, Marlow, Okla., and Jason Fullerton, Cimarron; a stepdaughter, Susan Punneo, Marlow, Okla.; a sister, Fern Ottley, Oakley; 35 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandsons, Mitch Ottley and Lancy Heady.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Cimarron, with the Rev. Charles Kerr presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Cimmaron.

Glenn Applegate
Glenn Applegate, 82, died Jan. 6, 2005, at Odyssey Hospice, Mesa, Ariz.

He was born April 12, 1922, at Plevna, the son of Chester and Viola Pike Applegate. He graduated in 1940 from Langdon High School. A longtime resident of Leoti, moving to Hutchinson in 2004, he was a banker. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the Aluetian Islands and European Theater.

He belonged to Leoti United Methodist Church, and VFW No. 6752, Leoti, and attended Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On Sept. 24, 1949, he married Mildred Elaine Mauck Decker at Langdon. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Gary and his wife, Kathy, Wichita, and Randy and his wife, Vikki, Westminster, Colo.; a daughter, Barbara Applegate, Waukesha, Wis.; a sister, Ruth Murphy, Langdon; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Lois McKibben.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Alan D. Stambaugh presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lerado Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Leoti United Methodist Church or Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.

Virginia M. Batt
McPHERSON - Virginia M. Batt, 85, died Jan. 8, 2005, at The Cedars, McPherson.

She was born Oct. 4, 1919, at McPherson, the daughter of Abraham Hiebert Dyck and Eva Schroeder. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and Tabor College, Hillsboro. A resident of McPherson since 1963, moving from Hillsboro, she was a former teacher and homemaker.

She belonged to First Baptist Church, McPherson.

On Aug. 10, 1939, she married C. Herbert Batt at Hillsboro. He died Jan. 16, 1984.

Survivors include: a daughter, Ann Howard, Florence, Ore.; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emice and Gladwin Dyck.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, McPherson, with the Rev. Les Cantrell presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Marion Cemetery, Marion.

Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church or Tabor College, both in care of the funeral home.
