Marjorie L. 'Marj' Preisner
ASHLAND - Marjorie L. "Marj" Preisner, 91, died Sept. 21, 2004, at her home in Ashland.
She was born April 9, 1913, at Minneola, the daughter of Jim and Mary Tindall Pitman. She graduated from Minneola High School and attended two years at Southwestern College. She also attended Vernons School of Cosmetology, Wichita. She was a cook for 25 years at Ashland Hospital before retiring.
She belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all at Ashland.
On Dec. 27, 1938, she married
Joseph Stephen Preisner. He died July 20, 1989.
Survivors include: two sons, Stephen, Ashland, and Ivan Preisner, St. John; two daughters, Kay Young, Ashland, and Janet Sharp, Holcomb; a sister, Olive Musser, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ashland. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Father Leslie Schawe presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Ashland.

Viona Cook
LAKIN - Viona Cook, 73, died Sept. 19, 2004, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Dec. 25, 1930, at Pontotoc, Miss. A resident of Lakin since the mid-1980s, moving from Brady, Texas, she was a homemaker.
In 1950, she married
Andrew Cook. He died in 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, Paul Cook, Owensboro, Ky., and Walter Frazier, Lampassas, Texas; five daughters, Mary Ann Tolbert, Mount Morris, Mich., Sandra Gail Cook and Barbara Nell Jantzen, both of Lakin, Bonnie Fay Donaldson, Gaines, Mich., and Betty Sue Choate, Flint, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Wayne and James Earl Cook.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Lakin Cemetery, Lakin, with the Rev. Warren Hett presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin.

Ray M. Sheldon
MEDICINE LODGE - Ray M. Sheldon, 94, died Sept. 21, 2004, at Pratt.
He was born July 15, 1910, at Medicine Lodge, the son of Ralph C. and Bessie Tyrell Sheldon. A lifetime Medicine Lodge resident, he was maintenance superintendent for National Gypsum Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1975.
He belonged to United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Lions Club and Masonic Lodge, all at Medicine Lodge.
On June 25, 1939, he married
Grace Hibbard at Medicine Lodge. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Mark, Pratt, Miles, Medicine Lodge, and John Sheldon, Guthrie, Okla.; a daughter, Jana Wiess, Powell, Wyo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rae Ann Sheldon.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Marc McDonald presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Larrison Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Olive 'Ollie' Kersenbrock
COLBY - Olive "Ollie" Kersenbrock, 90, died Sept. 19, 2004, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby.
She was born March 13, 1914, at Mountain View, Mo. She was a homemaker.
She married
Herman "Babe" Kersenbrock. He died in 1991.
Survivors include: two sons, Jack J. Kersenbrock, Norton, and Jerry J. Kersenbrock, Colby; a daughter, Jane Boyd, Hamilton, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Colby United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Mardock presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, Colby. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.

Leatha F. Carmichael
GARDEN CITY - Leatha F. Carmichael, 59, died Sept. 9, 2004, at her home, Garden City.
She was born Aug. 31, 1945, in Wichita County, the daughter of Bernard and Lydia Lauber Coerber. She attended Lakin schools. A resident of Garden City since 1979, previously living in Meade and Fowler, where she owned and operated a liquor store, she worked in the maintenance department of the Finney County Administration building for the past 10 years.
Survivors include: a daughter, Rodgina Faye Duvall, Kiowa; two sisters, Berneda Miller and Patty Roberts, both of Garden City; her stepfather, Harvey Coen, Garden City; a stepbrother, Jim Coen, Wichita; four stepsisters, LaVaughn Roth, Karen Howard, both of Garden City, Marilyn Grommesh, Wichita, and Ellen Nulton, Mulvane; two grandchildren; and an uncle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Bill Coerber.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Lakin Cemetery, Lakin, with the Rev. Tod Anthony presiding. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, both at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Harold L. Warner
GREAT BEND - Harold L. Warner, 85, died Sept. 9, 2004, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.
He was born Dec. 20, 1918, at Pawnee Rock, the son of Harold Louis and Flossie Barrows Warner. A resident of Great Bend since 2000, moving from Hugoton, he was a retired barber for more than 55 years.
He belonged to Faith Lutheran Church, Hugoton, and the Kansas Barbers Association.
He married
Beth McNutt. He later married
Esther Seiker. She died April 1, 1990.
Survivors include: a daughter, Margaret Bartholomew, Great Bend; two stepdaughters, Mary Ann Forward, Moscow, and Martha Lee Maupin, Ulysses; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beatrice Peterson; two brothers, Lathe and Bill; and a sister, Ruby Klasson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Pastor Gary Dassow presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock.

Frieda M. Siemens
BUHLER - Frieda M. Siemens, 90, died Sept. 9, 2004, at Buhler Sunshine Home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1914, at Moundridge, the daughter of Henry and Margaret Neufeldt Schroeder. A lifetime resident of the Buhler and Inman areas, she had worked as a farmer, a Buhler USD No. 313 bus driver and cake decorator.
She belonged to Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, Herwanna Chapter, and had been a Sunday school teacher.
On Dec. 2, 1934, she married
Henry L. Goertzen at Buhler. He died Aug. 7, 1950. Then on Sept. 4, 1981, she married
Chester A. Siemens. He died April 3, 2004.
Survivors include: two sons, and their wives, Harvey and Mary Lou, Inman, and Wesley and Shirley, Hutchinson; two daughters, Jan Hussey, and husband George, Arvada, Colo., and Lois Goertzen, Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Velma Goertzen, Inman; three stepdaughters; three brothers, Art, Irvin and Alvin Schroeder, all of Buhler; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Henry Stanton, an infant, and Stanley; and a granddaughter, Beth Goertzen Battis.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church, with Pastors Nick Rempel and Brent Warkentin presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., both at Buhler Mortuary. Burial will be in Buhler Cemetery.

Elda Mae Glynn
GREAT BEND - Elda Mae Glynn, 66, died Sept. 9, 2004, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.
She was born Feb. 4, 1938, at Great Bend, the daughter of Eric G. and Ida Bunselmeyer Fischer. A lifetime resident of Barton and Stafford counties, she was a receptionist for the Dominican Sisters.
She belonged to Peace United Church of Christ, Hudson, and was a volunteer for Elder Care and RSVP.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert J., Great Bend, and Donald R., Hudson; a daughter, Brenda R. Johnston, Pratt; a sister, Sylvia Eddingfield, Great Bend; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Miller.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, with the Rev. Thomas D. Sutter presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, both at the funeral home.

Cathryn Y. Westerhaus
GARDEN CITY - Cathryn Y. Westerhaus, 82, died Sept. 3, 2004, at a nursing home, Dallas.
She was born Feb. 18, 1922, at Muskogee, Okla. She graduated from Protection High School and from Southwestern College, Winfield, in 1943, with a degree in English, minoring in history. Upon graduation she returned to Protection and worked for Dr. Glenn as a receptionist/technician, then moved to Hutchinson, and was employed as a social worker. A resident of Dallas since January, moving from Garden City, where she lived since 1953, she was a homemaker and schoolteacher at Garden City Senior High School. On Jan. 7, 1950, she married
John J. Westerhaus at Hutchinson. He died in October, 1971.
Survivors include: a son, John J., Dallas; and a brother, John C. Young, Belleview, Wash.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Westerhaus.
At her request, remains will be cremated, with burial in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 18. Aria Cremation Service and Funeral Home, Dallas, is in charge of arrangements.
