Ruby Ruth Hipp
ROLLA - Ruby Ruth Hipp died Oct. 1, 2004, at Morton County Hospital, Elkart.

She was born Dec. 6, 1930, at Hugoton, the daughter of Harry and Sarah Lee Hartsell. A lifetime Rolla/Hugoton area resident, she was a custodian for the Rolla School District for 16 years.

On March 15, 1947, she married Frank George Hipp at Hugoton. He died Dec. 9, 1986.

Survivors include: three sons, Alton G., Rolla, Kenneth G., McLean, Texas, and Frank J., Holcomb; three daughters, Nancy L. Moser, Keyes, Okla., Gwen A. Hipp, Forgan, Okla., and Heather L. Fosdick, Liberal; a sister, Margaret Wymore, El Dorado; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: a son, Raymond E.; two brothers; and eight sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rolla United Methodist Church, with the Revs. John Jordan and Lanny Bollacker presiding. Visitation will be from 1 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, all at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Burial will be in Rolla Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to a charitable organization of the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

Danny L. Mardis
PRATT - Danny L. Mardis, 53, died Oct. 2, 2004, at his home, Pratt.

He was born Feb. 7, 1951, at Pratt, the son of Richard L. and Avis Sipe Mardis. He was a lifetime resident of Pratt.

He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Pratt. He was master mason in Kilwinning Lodge No. 265, member and president of Green Valley Men's Golf Association, Pratt Elks Club and umpire for Pratt Recreational Department from 1989 to 2000.

He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

On Oct. 28, 1973, he married Brenda M. Petrowsky at Natrona. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Brian Lee, Iuka; a daughter, Cassandra Jo Mardis, Pratt; a brother, Gordon R., Wichita; a sister, Patricia Weisshaar, Lawrence; and four grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Natrona, with the Rev. Michael Schotte presiding. Friends may sign register from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt. Casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, with military graveside rites conducted by U.S. Army, Fort Riley.

Memorials may be sent to the Pratt Recreation Department or the Danny Mardis Memorial Grandchildren Fund, both in care of the mortuary.

Oscar Duane 'Bud' Hayes
GUYMON, Okla. - Oscar Duane "Bud" Hayes, 71, died Oct. 1, 2004, at his home, Guymon, Okla.

He was born April 26, 1933, at Stafford, the son of Melvin and Jenny Pearl Rose Hayes. He graduated from Satanta High School. A resident of Guymon, Okla., formerly of Satanta, he worked for Williams Field Services for 43 years, retiring in 1994.

He belonged to Guymon First Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army.

On July 20, 1959, he married Vivian Ann Weber at Las Alamos, N.M. She survives.

Other survivors include: five children, Sally Jo Bush, Alva, Okla., David Dwayne, Fowler, Michael Todd, Greensburg, Charla Kay Hayes and Sara Ann Hayes, both of Guymon, Okla.; a brother, Cleo Hayes, Wichita; a sister, Maxine Moser, Vilas, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bunch-Roberts Chapel, Guymon, Okla., with the Rev. Derek Cox presiding. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

Sarah Lee Drais Shattuck
ASHLAND - Sarah Lee Drais Shattuck, 80, died Oct. 1, 2004, at Ashland Health Center.

She was born July 12, 1924, at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of James A. and Sarah A. Garret Drais. She graduated from St. Joseph, Mo., Central High School in 1942 and from the University of Kansas in 1946, with a bachelor's degree in social work. An Ashland resident, she was owner and operator of Clark County Title and Abstract Co.

She belonged to First Presbyterian Church, PEO Sisterhood, Twentieth Century Club, Ashland Business and Professional Women and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

On Sept. 18, 1948, she married Willis A. Shattuck at St. Joseph, Mo. He died Feb. 20, 1982.

Survivors include: a son, James Scott, Hampton, Va.; a daughter, Sarah Bootes Shattuck, Ashland.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James Alonzo Drais Jr.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Ashland, with the Rev. Barney Korbelik presiding. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ashland.

Memorials may be sent to Ashland Health Center, Hospice of the Prairie or American Cancer Society, all in care of Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland.

Margaret A. Aikman
Margaret A. Aikman, 45, died Oct. 1, 2004, at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born Nov. 1, 1958, at Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Eugene and Agnes Isabel Kemp Aikman. She graduated from Marino Valley High School, Riverside, Calif., in 1976. After her husband's death, she attended Cloud County Community College, Concordia, earning membership in Phi Theta Kappa for academic achievement. Transferring to Fort Hays State College, she studied history for one year. A resident of Hutchinson since 1995, previously of Concordia, Phillipsburg and Plainville, she farmed and raised cows in the Hutchinson area.

In 1980, she married Cale Richmond. He died in 1983.

Survivors include: her husband, Lance Colle, Hutchinson; three daughters, Bonnie Blochlinger and Staci Shanks, both of Salina, and Casey Richmond, Hutchinson; three stepdaughters, Jennifer Ferrante, Tucson, Ariz., Mardi Gutierrez, Codell, and Addie Colle, Haven; a stepson, Ben Colle, Hutchinson; a brother, Richard Aikman, Natoma; two stepbrothers, Rob Arnold, Minnesota, and Mike Arnold, Kansas; two stepsisters, Marla Mendez, Plainville, and Lynn Ramsey, Natoma; five grandchildren; three nephews; and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Maryanne Aikman, and her stepfather, Pete Arnold.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Natoma Cemetery, with Chaplain Eugene Hall presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from noon to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, all at Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, Russell.

Memorials may be sent to Margaret Aikman Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary.

Linda Lou Hayden
DIGHTON - Linda Lou Hayden, 60, died Sept. 30, 2004, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, Okla.

She was born Dec. 2, 1943, at Dighton, the daughter of Charles and Mattie Morehead Garton Jr. She graduated from Dighton High School in 1963 and from Phillips University, Enid, Okla., with a degree in physical education and science. A resident of Elk City, Okla., since 1997, previously living in California and Dighton, she was a homemaker and worked as a teacher at Caldwell and St. Charles, Mo.

She belonged to First Christian Church, Dighton.

On June 26, 1969, she married Leo "Bud" Hayden at Lawton, Okla. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include: a son, Derek, Marina, Calif.; a daughter, Jennifer Hayden, Marina, Calif.; a sister, Peggy Muffitt, Dighton; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Howard Bever presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Lane County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.

Rosy Elsie Ollek
HILLSBORO - Rosy Elsie Ollek, 92, died Oct. 2, 2004, at Hillsboro.

She was born Dec. 3, 1911, at Monument, the daughter of Henry and Christina Hermes Weinbrenner. A resident of Hillsboro, she was a business woman.

She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church.

On Jan. 12, 1934, she married Richard Ollek at Lehigh. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a son, Dick, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Peggy Roberts, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, with the Rev. Clark M. Davis presiding. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Memorials may be sent to Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots or Bethesda Home, both in care of the chapel.

James L. 'Jim' Hurst
SYLVIA - James L. "Jim" Hurst, 67, died Oct. 1, 2004, at his home, Sylvia.

He was born Dec. 26, 1936, at Sylvia, the son of Leo Frederick and Emma Cleghorn Hurst. He graduated from Sylvia High School in 1955. A lifetime Sylvia area resident, he was a farmer and stockman.

He belonged to Air National Guard and was a former board member of Sylvia COOP board of directors.

On Aug. 9, 1964, he married Marilyn Kinast at Haven. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Rodney, Sylvia; a daughter, Anne Hurst, Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, Glen, Topeka, and Keith, Sylvia; and a sister, Marjorie Herrman, Hutchinson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel, Stafford, with the Rev. Harry Graves presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Hayes Township Cemetery, rural Sylvia.

Memorials may be sent to Trails West EMS or Sylvia Senior Center, both in care of the chapel.
