Donald J. Edgar
STERLING - Donald J. Edgar, 89, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton, Tenn., after a lengthy illness.

He was born at Sterling, the son of Robert M. and Sara I. Dougherty Edgar. He graduated with a master's degree in chemistry from Kansas State University. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation as a chemist after 33 years of service.

Survivors include: his wife; three sons; two sisters; a brother, Howard Edgar of Kansas; six grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Jim Thornton presiding.

Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Lela Mae Curry Keller
CHENEY - Lela Mae Curry Keller, 67, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

She was born May 7, 1937, at Alva, Okla., the daughter of Edward E. and Ellen L. Showalter Curry. She was a medical aide.

Survivors include: four sons, Donald, Daryl, Dwayne and Dave, all of Cheney; a daughter, Deanna Keller, Cheney; two brothers, Allen Curry, Columbus, Ga., and Leonard A. "Buddy" Curry, Wichita; three sisters, Dorla Hoffman, Sue Bryant and Jane Hathaway, all of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Eddie and Gail Curry.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lanterman Funeral Home, Cheney, with Pastor Mark Ogle presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita.

Memorials may be sent to Cheney Golden Age Home, Cheney, or American Cancer Society, Heart Division, Wichita, both in care of the funeral home.

Lucille Barbara Schneider
ELLINWOOD - Lucille Barbara Schneider, 88, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Ellinwood District Hospital.

She was born April 29, 1916, at Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Johnson and Helen Kienast. She graduated from East High School in 1933 and from Morningside College in 1940, both at Sioux City. A longtime Ellinwood resident, she was a retired piano teacher.

She belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church, Lutheran's Women Missionary League, and Twentieth Century Club, all at Ellinwood. She also belonged to Central Kansas Piano Teachers League and was an organist and accompanist.

On Jan. 1, 1946, she married Eugene Schneider at Sioux City. He died July 29, 1998.

Survivors include: a son, Craig Paul Schneider, Great Bend; a daughter, Gwen Glidden, Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Loretta Lenz, Sioux City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, with the Rev. Merlyn Lorhke presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood.

Memorials may be sent to Lutheran Hour or Ellinwood Area Health Care Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.

Dan Heinrich
MEDICINE LODGE - Dan Heinrich, 77, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Great Bend.

He was born July 31, 1927, at Swissville, Pa., the son of Louis and Irene Nagy Heinrich. He was a La Crosse resident, moving from Seward.

He was a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II.

On Dec. 9, 1963, he married Elsie Willan at Las Vegas. She survives.

Other survivors include: a stepdaughter, Laura Johnson, Medicine Lodge; five stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Memorials may be sent to United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, in care of Larrison Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge.

Lorene Bradfield Guy
DODGE CITY - Lorene Bradfield Guy, 73, died Oct. 12, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

She was born Oct. 30, 1930, at Garden City, the daughter of Daniel and Julia Ratzliff Ochs. She grew up in the Dodge City area.

She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, and Moose Lodge, Dodge City.

On July 28, 1947, she married Clayton Kate Bradfield at Dodge City. He died May 22, 1996. On Dec. 22, 1999, she married Frank Guy at La Junta, Colo. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Dennis, Denver, and John Bradfield, Norwalk; three daughters, Linda Friess, Cheryl Pollington and Debbie Cossman, all of Dodge City; two sisters, Betty Bass, Mountain Grove, Mo., and Ethel Massey, Montezuma; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ochs; a sister, Bertha Snyder; and a great-grandson.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Scroggins Mausoleum, with the Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. There will be no visitation. Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Amy Melissa Robbins
WICHITA - Amy Melissa Robbins, 29, beloved wife of Gabriel Robbins, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, due to injuries sustained from an automobile accident that occurred on Oct. 5, 2004.

Survivors include: husband, Gabe Robbins; a stepson, Randy Bargdill-Robbins, Wichita; parents, Larry and Linda Goodwin, Hutchinson; a brother and sister-in-law, Shane and Lisa Goodwin, Buhler; grandfather, Don Johnson, Topeka; grandmother, Marilyn Hoober, Concordia; niece, Sydney Goodwin, Buhler; nephew, Grant Goodwin, Buhler; mother-in-law, Pam Robbins, Derby; and father-in-law, Fred Robbins, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Edith Johnson and Lynn Goodwin.

Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East, Wichita.

Albert G. 'Al' Bachman
CLAFLIN - Albert G. "Al" Bachman, 79, died Oct. 13, 2004, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.

He was born Feb. 11, 1925, at Lead, S.D., the son of Leo and Adeline Curtis Bachman. He graduated from Live Oak High School, Live Oak, Calif., and from Yuba College and Sacramento College. He received his master's degree in school administration from Wichita State University and his master's of natural science from Arizona State University. A Claflin resident since 1969, moving from Hutchinson, he taught school in California and Hutchinson and was a college professor for 18 years at Barton County Community College, Great Bend.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a life member of NEA.

On Oct. 23, 1945, he married Peggy Maxine Churchman at Parkerville. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Albert Bruce, Hutchinson, Thomas G., Lakin, and Daniel L. Bachman, Susan; a daughter, Barbara F. Underwood, Tribune; a brother, Leo R. Bachman, Woodland, Calif.; three sisters, Blanche Gillespie, Live Oak, Hazel Chapman, Marysville, Calif., and Darlene Herring, Trout Lake, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Bachman; two half brothers, Jacob Bachman and LeRoy Bachman; a sister, Dorothy Bachman; and two half sisters, Myrtle Main and Alice Hullinger.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, with the Rev. Mike Underwood presiding and assisted by Mrs. Betty Bachman. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Parkerville Cemetery, Parkerville, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Memorials may be sent to Claflin Ambulance Fund or a charity of the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home.

N. Lois Patterson
STERLING - N. Lois Patterson, 70, died Aug. 12, 2004, at Kent, Wash.

She was born Jan. 24, 1934, at Pretty Prairie, the daughter of John O. Smith and Clara Magnuson. She lived in Kansas, Idaho and Washington before retiring in Sterling. There, she was very active in the community and with the American Legion Auxiliary.

On June 2, 1954, she married Robert C. Patterson. He survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters; an adopted son; a sister, Ruth Schmidt, Turon; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion, Sterling.

Erna P. Loewen
McPHERSON - Erna P. Loewen, 89, died Oct. 13, 2004, at Salem Home, Hillsboro.

She was born April 18, 1915, at Hillsboro, the daughter of Christian Seibel and Karolina Delk. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1935. A Hillsboro resident since 2002, formerly a 50-year resident of McPherson, she was co-owner and operator of Western Auto Store, McPherson, and was a Shaklee Dealer.

She belonged to First Baptist Church, McPherson.

On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Clarence H. Loewen at Hillsboro. He died in Dec. 1994.

Survivors include: a son, Dennis Loewen, Lawrence; a daughter, Karolyn Wiebe, White River Junction, Vt.; a sister, Evelyn Regier, Peabody; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jacob, Samuel, Edward, Solomon, Walter and Christian Seibel; and five sisters, Martha Suderman, Louise Suderman, Sarah Friesen, Agnes Just and Rachel Seibel.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, with Clinton Seibel presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Jean Clauda Turnquist
LEOTI - Jean Clauda Turnquist, 93, died Sept. 8, 2004, at Wichita County Long Term Care Unit, Leoti.

She was born March 5, 1911, at Edgeley, N.D., the daughter of Claude Royal and Beulah Belle Lohr Rowley. A Leoti resident since 1985, moving from Aurora, Colo., she was a retired dental hygienist.

She belonged to United Methodist Church, Ada Circle and EHU, all at Leoti, Order of Eastern Star, Aurora, and Colorado Dental Hygienist Association, Denver.

On June 14, 1935, she married Elmer Turnquist at Duluth, Minn. He died Dec. 29, 1990.

Survivors include: two sons, Thomas, Watkins, Colo., and James, Aurora; two daughters, Jean Fones, Winton, Calif., and Karen Walk, Leoti; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, all at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery, Leoti.

Memorials may be sent to the church or to Wichita County Historical Society, both in care of the funeral home.
