Obituary: Josie Goetz Wittman, 89, Hoxie, KS died Monday, March 8, 2004 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Home, Manhattan, KS.
She was born January 7, 1915 in Park, KS to Joseph and Mary Goetz. She married Nick Wittman on June 6, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband in April 1996 and their son, Melvin, in 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Post, and her husband, Art; a son, Gordon, and his wife, Bonnie, all of Manhattan; a brother, Leo Goetz of Park; a sister, Ella Walt of Wakeeney; also eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Park and Hoxie.
Visitation and Rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2004 in the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, KS.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 12, 2004 at the St. Frances Catholic Church, Hoxie, KS.

Obituary: James Ernest. Sloan, 60, Manhattan, KS passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004 in the Colmery-O’Neil V.A. Medical Center, Topeka.
He was born July 24, 1943 at Ft. Scott, KS. His parents were Robert and Lillian Sloan of Manhattan.
Jim was a member of the Class of 1961 at Manhattan High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He worked as a carpenter and concrete finisher in the Manhattan area for many years and operated the Red Bird Construction Company. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Fernley Sloan on October 24, 1996.
Survivors include his father, Robert W. Sloan, Manhattan; a son, James Joseph Sloan, who is in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Bremerton, WA; one sister, Donna Robb, Peabody, KS; and one brother, Wayne Sloan, Manhattan.
Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment services will be at 9:00 a.m., Friday, March 12, 2004 in the Sunrise Cemetery with the Rev. John Austin officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research-KSU and left in care of the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan.

Obituary: Donita Jean Nauerth, 54, Manhattan, KS passed away Thursday, March 11, 2004 in rural Pottawatomie County, KS.
She was born April 29, 1949 at Manhattan, the daughter of Donald Ford and Isola Hansen Ford. She grew up in Leonardville, KS, where she attended the local schools and was the 1967 homecoming queen her senior year at Riley County High School.
She was united in marriage to Roger Nauerth on December 23, 1967 at Manhattan. He survives of the home.
She was a homemaker and her love and compassion for others touched many lives. Words cannot express the void left in those she touched.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nauerth is survived a daughter, Jill Cabrera, and her husband, Mario, Houston, TX; a son, Joel Nauerth, and his wife, Deb, Manhattan; her parents, Donald and Isola Ford, Leonardville; and three sisters, ViAnn Scott, Bowling Green, KY, Jan Bradfield, Riley, KS and Nicki Ford Peterson, Wamego, KS.
Cremation is planned. Private family inurnment services will be held in the Leonardville Cemetery. In honor of her love for animals, the family suggests contributions be made to the T. Russell Reitz Regional Animal Shelter and left in care of the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan.

Obituary: Neil Havenstein, 73, Manhattan, KS passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004 in the Via Christie/St. Francis Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born September 11, 1930 at Alta Vista, KS, the son of August Havenstein and Helen E. Snodgrass Havenstein. He grew up in the Deep Creek area, southeast of Manhattan, where he attended the local elementary school and was a 1948 graduate of the Manhattan High School.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Gravenstein on May 4, 1949 at Junction City, KS. She survives of the home.
Mr. Havenstein worked as a patrol officer for the Overland Park Police Department from 1955-1961. Along with his brother, Bob, he co-owned and operated the Havenstein Brothers Body Shop in Manhattan from 1961 until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the Pearce-Keller American Legion Post No. 17 and the Stagg Hill Golf Course, all of Manhattan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Havenstein; and a grandson, Gregory Steven Havenstein.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Havenstein is survived by three sons, Robert Havenstein, and his wife, Nancy, Lamar, CO, Steven Havenstein, and his wife, Diana, Vancouver, WA and Michael Havenstein, and his wife, Patsy, Manhattan; three brothers, Donald Havenstein, Manhattan, Gene Havenstein, McCormick, SC and Gerry Havenstein, Raleigh, NC; one sister, Janice O’Briant, Manhattan; five grandchildren, Bryan, Brett, Jake, John and Brittany Havenstein; and two great grandchildren, Meagan and Emily Havenstein.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2004 in the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Mayme “Dollie” Wright, 60, Manhattan, KS passed away Friday, February 27, 2004 in the Meadowlark Hills Health Care Center/Honstead House, Manhattan.
She was born December 21, 1943 at Alta Vista, KS, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson White and Mayme Ellen Fink White. She grew up in Alta Vista where she attended the local schools and was a 1963 graduate of the Alta Vista High School.
She was united in marriage to George W. Wright, Jr. on September 7, 1963 at Alta Vista.
Mrs. Wright lived in Lamoni, IA before moving back to Alta Vista in 1975 and then to Manhattan in 1981.
She was a homemaker and had been baptized in the Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Clayton Wright, Abilene, KS and Joseph Wright, and his wife, Cindy, Hunter, OK; two brothers, James White, Grapevine, TX and Weldon White, Ellsworth, KS; and two granddaughters, Rochelle and Penny Wright.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rochelle Wright; her parents; and a brother, Thomas White.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan with the Rev. George DeBose officiating. Burial will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery, Alta Vista.
