Therron L. Taylor
LIBERAL - Therron L. Taylor, 61, died Oct. 13, 2004, at his home, Liberal.
He was born Aug. 26, 1943, the son of Farris A. and Myna M. Combs Taylor. He graduated from Eureka High School, Baker, Okla., and attended Oklahoma University for several years. Returning to Liberal in 1965, he farmed until 1972. He worked for Tradewind Industires in marketing and was promoted to vice president before retiring in 1982.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Liberal.
On June 9, 1962, he married
Sherry E. Howell at Tribune.
Survivors include: a son, Shane Taylor, Warrensburg, Mo.; two daughters, Lisa Olson, Liberal, and Liz Taylor, Hooker, Okla.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.
Memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Miller Chapel, Liberal, with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will take place at a later date.

W.B. 'Jack' Cundiff
HOLYROOD - W.B. "Jack" Cundiff, 93, died Oct. 15, 2004, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.
He was born Dec. 24, 1910, at Oklahoma, the son of Frank and Bessie Hartman Cundiff. A Holyrood resident since 1988, moving from Orinda, Calif., he delivered furniture for Brueners Furniture, Oakland, Calif., for 20 years.
He belonged to St. Paul's United Church of Christ and American Legion Post No. 200, both at Holyrood.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Oct. 8, 1947, he married
Gertrude Siemsen at Reno, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include: several nephews and nieces.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Holyrood, with Pastor Deborah Rains presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the Siemsen Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
Delta N. Shafar
NEWTON - Delta N. Shafar, 74, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Newton.
She was born March 31, 1930, at Villisca, Iowa, the daughter of Alic and Flossie Thurber Newberg.
She belonged to Circle 8 Square Dance Club, Newton, and Casual Squares Club, Wichita.
On Feb. 4, 1950, she married
Edward Shafar at Bedford, Iowa. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Delta Deanne Warhurst, North Newton, Renae Ellen McLain, Newton, Lori Faye Hoffman, McPherson, and Alaina Gail Portlock, Newton; four brothers, Wilbur Newberg, Malvern, Iowa, Roy Newberg, Atlantic, Iowa, Ray Newberg, Clarinda, Iowa, and Maylon Newberg, Independence, Mo.; five sisters, Gladys Govig, Stanton, Iowa, Fern Potter, Missouri, Emma Kuhn, Villisca, Iowa, Louise Smith, Red Oak, Iowa, and Dorothy Briggs, Ohio; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Havens and Iva Lee Larson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with Pastor Galen Berry presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Mary Carolyn Cotter
BUFFALO, Okla. - Mary Carolyn Cotter, 73, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Harper County Community Hospital.
She was born Nov. 16, 1930, at the family farm east of Buffalo, Okla., the daughter of Percy Jennings and Harriet Irene Mapes Bayne. She attended Selman and Buffalo schools. A resident of Buffalo, she was a homemaker.
On May 17, 1948, she married
Harold Frederick Druce at Buffalo, Okla. On Jan. 20, 1968, she married
Wiley Clinton Cotter. He died April 2, 2003.
Survivors include: a daughter, Viola "Dianne" Owen, Fort Supply, Okla.; a brother, Jerry Bayne, Seattle; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Frederick Druce; a daughter, Loreta Mary Messner; a sister, Ana Lou Garvin; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Buffalo, Okla., with the Revs. Joel Jackson and Mike Barton presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Myatt Funeral Home, Buffalo. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery, Buffalo.

Delores Y. 'Dee' Secrest
Delores Y. "Dee" Secrest, 67, died Oct. 14, 2004, at her home, Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 22, 1937, at Superior, Neb., the daughter of Wilbert Lewis and Fern Maxine Sibert Larson. She attended public schools at Superior. A Hutchinson resident since 1971, moving from Concordia, she was a homemaker and retired food service employee at Hutchinson Community College.
On Dec. 1, 1953, she married
Melvin E. Graham at Superior, Neb. He died May 3, 1988. Then, on Feb. 3, 1990, she married
Charles R. Secrest. He died July 11, 1990.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert Leroy and wife Angie, Douglas Gene and wife Cindy, and Kevin Wayne and wife Darla, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Dale Larson, Macon, Mo.; a sister, Joann Grounds, Macon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Melvin Parrott presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Patricia L. Rose
SCOTT CITY - Patricia L. Rose, 75, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
She was born July 9, 1929, at Sheridan County, the daughter of John Lloyd and Mabell Ruby Trowbridge McGuire. A lifetime resident of Logan County, moving to Scott City in 2000, she was a schoolteacher, meal planner and manager of the VIP Center, Scott City, as well as a homemaker and Sunday school teacher.
She belonged to First Christian Church, and Secret Sisters of the church, Oakley, Pink Ladies Auxiliary, the Hit and Miss Band and the VIP Chorus, all at Scott City.
She was a youth bowling instructor, Oakley, and past leader of Pence Busy Beavers, Scott City.
On April 23, 1950, she married
Delbert L. Rose at Oakley. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Burton, Scott City, and Brian, Wichita; a daughter, Sheila Goedert, Fort Morgan, Colo.; four brothers, Leland McGuire, Hoxie, Donald McGuire, Ulysses, Cecil McGuire, Arnett, Okla., and Jon Harvey McGuire, Frisco, Colo.; six sisters, Retha Lemmons, Scott City, Elizabeth Salters, Stockton, Mo., Velda Cox, Wichita, Luellen Ellegood, Oakley, Marthanell Turley, Scott City, and Kathy McGuire, Erie, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Clifford, Glen, Tom, William, Earl and Melvin McGuire.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Oakley, with the Rev. Bob Kelly presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, both at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Scott City Cemetery.

Beverly Lucille Winnop
MEDICINE LODGE - Beverly Lucille Winnop, 70, died Oct. 15, 2004, at Kiowa District Hospital, Kiowa.
She was born March 3, 1934, at Sun City, the daughter of Henry and Ina Freeman Shellenberger. A lifetime Barber County resident, she was a cook at Medicine Lodge Middle School for 20 years and a clerk at Ben Franklin Store for 12 years.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge.
On Jan. 9, 1949, she married
Arthur Dale Winnop at Pratt. He survives, Medicine Lodge.
Other survivors include: a son, Dennis Winnop, Phoenix; a daughter, Linda Vinsonhaler, Monahans, Texas; a sister, Arlene Scherer, Pratt; a grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Sessions.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will take place at a later date.

Wendell Ray 'Blacky' Warren
MEDICINE LODGE - Wendell Ray "Blacky" Warren, 85, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 19, 1918, at Medicine Lodge, the son of Jay and Ivy Axtell Warren. A lifetime resident of Medicine Lodge, he was an automobile salesman for Lodge Chevrolet since 1936, which later became Bowe Chevrolet in 1991, retiring in 2004.
He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Medicine Lodge, Delta Lodge No. 77 A.F. and A.M., Medicine Lodge, and he was a 60-year member of American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On July 12, 1963, he married
Naomi Johnson at Pueblo, Colo. She died July 15, 2003.
Survivors include: his best friend and companion, Bogie; two sons, John and wife Beverley, Covington, Okla., and Kendall; a stepson, Bobby Swinehart and wife Carol, Yukon, Okla.; a brother, Tom, Oklahoma; four sisters, Hazel Kaminska, Medicine Lodge, Oma Burge, Medicine Lodge, Flora Piper, Marquette, and Betty Stevens, Harper; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Ned, Fred, Ralph, Donald, Marion, Bob and Kendall, his twin; and three sisters, Mildred Balding, Maene Munsell and Marjorie Skinner.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Masonic rites conducted by John Hybsha and Delta Lodge No. 77, and Pastor Tom Walters presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, both at Larrison Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
