Joseph Leslie Hodgson
LITTLE RIVER - Joseph Leslie Hodgson, 53, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River.

He was born Jan. 1, 1951, at Little River, the son of Joseph Howard and Ruth Wilkins Hodgson. He graduated from Little River High School in 1969 and from Kansas State University in 1980. A longtime Little River resident, formerly of Nemaha, Iowa, he was an independent truck driver.

He belonged to the Congregational United Church of Christ, Little River.

Survivors include: two sons, Bradley, Nemaha, and Edward Hodgson, Independence, Mo.; a stepson, Will Hook; a stepdaughter, Jenny Hook; father and stepmother, Howard and Hazel Hodgson, Little River; two brothers, Kim, Sugarland, Texas, and Kendall Hodgson, Little River; three sisters, Merilene Amos, Cortez, Colo., Melinda Green, Dolores, Colo., and Traci Hodgson, Portland; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Hodgson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Little River, with Pastor Ted Weis presiding. Burial will be in Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River.

Memorials may be sent to the church in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons.

Arlone W. Mast
ULYSSES - Arlone W. Mast, 71, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital, Ulysses.

She was born May 10, 1933, at Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Lloyd and Eva Marjorie Marcy Warren. A Ulysses resident since 1974, moving from Cresco, Iowa, she was in housekeeping at the Western Prairie Care Home, Ulysses, for many years.

She belonged to Freewill Baptist Church, Ulysses.

On April 10, 1971, she married Dan D. Mast Jr. at Cresco. He died in 1994.

Survivors include: three sons, Wayne Hultz, Nashville, Tenn., Robert Warren, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Larry Lucas, Cisco, Texas; five daughters, Debbie Lange, Morrison, Ill., Karen McIntyre, Bluffton, Iowa, Julie Mast, Nashville, Debbie Showers and Wanita Wise, both of Ulysses; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy; a brother, Robert Warren; a sister, Marcella Farr; and a grandson.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Freewill Baptist Church, Ulysses, with Pastor James Ward presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the family or the church, both in care of the funeral home.

Iva J. Taggart
Iva J. Taggart, 84, died Oct. 21, 2004, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born May 11, 1920, at Fayetteville, Ark. A Hutchinson resident since 1935, she was a homemaker and had worked at Broad Acres Nursing Home.

She belonged to Peniel Nazarene Church, Hutchinson.

In December 1958, she married Clifford A. Taggart at Hutchinson. He died in 1997.

Survivors include: five sons, Charles L. and Loren E. Patten, both of Partridge, Robert W. Patten, Hutchinson, Kenneth K. Patten, Aurora, Colo., Clifford W. Taggart, Arlington; two daughters, Linda Ullom and Sherri Elam, both of Hutchinson; a sister, Delma W. Watkins, Fayetteville; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Jackie and Russell Patten; three brothers, Troy, Coy and Edgar Samples; and a sister, Pearl.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Chaplain Paul Danner presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lone Star Cemetery, Pretty Prairie.

Memorials may be sent to Iva J. Taggart Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Joann Parker
IUKA - Joann Parker, 75, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Friendship Manor of Pratt.

She was born March 3, 1929, at Cullison, the daughter of Clarence Dale and Gertrude Ellen Rice Konkel. A resident of Iuka since 1967, moving from Macksville, she was a homemaker and church custodian.

She belonged to Iuka United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

On March 8, 1953, she married S. D. Pat Parker at Las Vegas. He survives, Iuka.

Survivors include: a son, Steve, Wichita; a daughter, Diane, Hutchinson; four brothers, Fay Konkel, Glendale, Calif., Eddie E., Frank D. and Wayne D. Konkel, all of Pratt; two sisters, Mabel Baker, Pratt, and Marthena DeGarmo, Elmwood, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Johnnie Konkel, and three sisters, Gertrude Konkel, Margaret Davis and Marcheta Monaghan.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Iuka United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Billy Hughes and Ken Keeling presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, both at the mortuary. Burial will be in Iuka Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Ayers-Calbeck Mortuary, Pratt.

Lorraine E. Whitelaw
ANTHONY - Lorraine E. Whitelaw, 92, died Oct. 15, 2004, at Anthony.

She was born May 22, 1912, at Neodesha, the daughter of Sam and Lillie McMullin Ford. A resident of Anthony, she was a retired farmer and practical nurse.

She belonged to the Christian Church.

On Dec. 29, 1939, she married Ridge Whitelaw. He died Aug. 20, 1999.

Survivors include: two nieces, Pat Wright, Potomac, Md., and Joan Dickens, Neodesha; three nephews, Ron and Dwight Steele, both of Harper, and John Carothers, Anthony; a sister-in-law, Bessie Carothers, Anthony; and a cousin, Jean Cleveland, Anthony.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Anthony, with the Rev. John Schnelle presiding. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Anthony.

Memorials may be sent to Anthony Community Care Center or Christian Church of Anthony, both in care of the mortuary.

Mary Jane 'Molly' Krey
HUGOTON - Mary Jane "Molly" Krey, 49, died Oct. 16, 2004, at her home, rural Hugoton.

She was born Sept. 3, 1955, at Long Beach, Calif., the daughter of Gilbert H. and Wilma J. Ford Coulter. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her parents, Hugoton; a son, Harrison Lee, Hugoton; a brother, Timothy J. Coulter, Hugoton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jacob Levi, and a daughter, Amber Jane.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rolla United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Jordan presiding. Casket will remain closed. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Burial will be in Richfield Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Harrison Lee Krey Education Fund in care of the funeral home.

Mark S. Malone
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Mark S. Malone, 50, died Oct. 14, 2004, at Joliet, Ill., due to injuries sustained in a tragic airplane accident.

He was born April 11, 1954, at Ulysses, the son of Dewayne and Sally Malone. He attended Ulysses High School and Butler County Community College. He furthered his education at Kansas State University and graduated Cum Laude in 1978 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. After graduation, he was an instructor at KSU for two years in the Architectural Engineering and Construction Science Department. He was declared a member of Phi Alpha Epsilon in 2000 for his achievement and high scholarship in Architectural Engineering.

While teaching at KSU, he started establishing an engineering business of his own. He had offices at Manhattan and Topeka. In 1985, he moved to Springfield, Mo., and established his business in the community as President of Malone, Finkle, Eckhardt and Collins, Inc.

He was an avid golfer and member of Highland Springs Country Club. He was a fishing enthusiast and was the Kansas Pro-Bass Angler of the Year in 1981 and 1982. He was a Kansas State football fan and an Ahearn contributor. His love of flying led him to build and fly his own aircraft. He lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by all who knew him.

On Aug. 5, 1990, he married Debi S. Saddler at Springfield, Mo.

Survivors include: his loving wife; their two sons, Patrick and Jeremy, Springfield, Mo.; his parents; his twin brother, Scott and wife Jean; a brother, Craig and wife Mary Kay, all of Ulysses; a sister-in-law, Cindy Malone, Bayfield, Colo.; five nieces and six nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kirk Malone in 1999.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hope Community Church, Springfield, Mo., under the direction of J. D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home, Rogersville, Mo. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery, Rogersville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home on Hwy 60 East and Farm Road 223.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to KSU Foundation, Mark S. Malone Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, 7405 E. Ferrell Lane, Rogersville, MO 65742.

Ray L. Culver
HARPER - Ray L. Culver, 78, formerly of Harper, died Oct. 11, 2004, at Turlock, Calif.

A resident of Denair, Calif., for the past 21 years, he retired after 20 years with Coleman Co., Wichita.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Survivors include: a brother, Elwood S. Culver, Pratt; a sister; numerous nephews and nieces; and great- and great-great-nephews and nieces.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Funeral Home, Harper.

Joseph F. Casey
McCRACKEN - Joseph Francis "Joe" Casey, 81, died Oct. 31, 2004, at his home, McCracken.

He was born Dec. 24, 1922, near McCracken, the son of Patrick J. and Sarah McGaughey Casey. A lifetime resident of McCracken, he was a McCracken city police officer for more than 37 years and a reserve deputy sheriff for Rush and Ness counties for 37 years. He also owned and operated a dairy at McCracken for many years. He was sexton for McCrackenCemeteryfor more than 35 years.

He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, McCracken.

On Oct. 30, 1945, he married Elizabeth Kisslinger at McCracken. She died Dec. 22, 1992.

Survivors include: two daughters, Kathy Dugan, Sudan, Texas, and Sarah Casey, Wichita; a brother, Pat, McCracken; two sisters, LaVone Helms, Ness City, and Marjorie Elias, McCracken; Janet Marden, Wichita, and Scottie Wittman, Wiley, Colo., both of whom he raised from childhood; two grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lenora Casey and Teresa Pfeifer.

Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, McCracken. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Father Charles Mazouch presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in McCracken Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to St. Mary's Heritage Foundation or McCracken Jail Museum in care of the funeral home.
