Frieda Pauls
INMAN - Frieda Pauls, 96, died July 2, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born March 3, 1908, at Buhler, the daughter of Klaas and Marie Franz Dick. She graduated from Buhler Lakeside School. A lifetime resident of Inman, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, the church's sewing circle and Groveland Farm Bureau. On Oct. 16, 1927, she married
Curt W. Pauls at rural Inman. He died June 11, 1984.
Survivors include: two sons, Lester, Naperville, Ill., and Loren Kurt, Marshall, Ark.; a daughter, Donna Willems, Salem, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: a daughter, Mary Ann Pauls; a brother, Harry Dick; and two sisters, Katherine Dirks and Ann Toews.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. July 8 at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, rural Inman, with Pastor Willmar Harder presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Buhler Mortuary. Burial will be in Hoffnungsau Cemetery.

Walter 'Jim' Bisbee
GREAT BEND - Walter "Jim" Bisbee, 84, died July 2, 2004, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.
He was born Nov. 21, 1919, at Dustin, Okla., the son of Lewis H. and Lucinda Tucker Bisbee.
A resident of Great Bend for 38 years, moving from Goodland, he was a printer and composing room foreman for the Sherman County Harold for 17 years and The Great Bend Tribune for 22 years, retiring in 1987.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and attaining the rank of Sergeant.
On Dec. 6, 1941, he married
Minnie James at Mena, Ark. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, James D. and wife Linda, Wichita; a daughter, Karen L. Webb and husband Al, McMinnville, Tenn.; two brothers, King, Mena, Ark., and Lynn, McColl, S.C.; two sisters, Jean Dickerson, Pomona, Calif., and Elsie Daniels, Mena, Ark.; and a granddaughter, Lucinda Freeman and husband DeWayne, Wichita.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill; and two sisters, Leatha Sprinkle and Irene McElfresh.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Brooks presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Committal Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Memorials may be sent to the church (Pastor's Mission Fund), Meals on Wheels or Great Bend Public Library, all in care of the funeral home.
Maxine M. Haltom
ALDEN - Maxine M. Haltom, 90, died July 2, 2004, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
She was born April 6, 1914, at Manchester, Okla., the daughter of Alvin and Orbay Chaney Hughes. A longtime Rice County resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Alden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Alden EHU, YWCA, Silver Threads and the Rice County Council on Aging.
On Sept. 15, 1934, she married
Roscoe Scott Haltom in Reno County. He died March 15, 1975.
Survivors include: a son, Duane, and wife Mary, Hutchinson; a daughter-in-law, Pam Haltom, Sterling; two brothers, Warren Hughes, Peabody, and Larson Hughes, Tulsa, Okla.; five sisters, Ruby Broce and Norma Reid, both of Anthony, Marjorie Huddleson, Harper, Bernice Kaufman, Attica, and Doris Garner, Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dwight; a brother, Darrel Hughes; and a sister, Kathleen Brintnall.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alden United Methodist Church, Alden, with Pastor Beverly Williams presiding. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be in Alden Cemetery.

Connie Gayle Carrier
ALBERT - Connie Gayle Carrier, 56, died Aug. 27, 2004, at rural Great Bend.
She was born Jan. 3, 1948, at Eldorado Springs, Mo., the daughter of Junior and Lois Baxter Cate. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker, caregiver and secretary for Dave's Truck Service.
She belonged to Raymond Baptist Church, Raymond, St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar Society, Great Bend.
On Oct. 3, 1968, she married
David Roy Carrier at Great Bend. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jason, Hoisington; a daughter, LeAnna Carrier Wassinger, Schoenchen; her mother, Lois Cate-Clark, Ellinwood; a brother, Michael Cate, Wichita; three sisters, Judy Hitchcock, Colorado Springs, Cindy Huff, Larned, and Christi Tiede, Hays; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Bethell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m., both at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Raymond.

Clifford F. Veatch
LENEXA - Clifford F. Veatch, 37, died Aug. 28, 2004, at his home, Lenexa.
He was born Oct. 7, 1966, at Elkhart. He earned his law degree from University of Kansas in 1992. A resident of Lenexa, he was an estate planning attorney and principal of Veatch Law Offices.
Survivors include: his wife, Julie M., of the home; his parents; a grandmother; two brothers; two nephews; and four nieces.
Funeral liturgy will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa. Porter Funeral Home LLC, Lenexa, is in charge of arrangements.
Kim Michelle Schirmer
ROSE HILL - Kim Michelle Schirmer, 46, died Aug. 26, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
She was born Sept. 28, 1957, at Ulysses, the daughter of Leslie and Jeannie Carew Herrin.
She was a private first class in the U.S. Army.
She was married
to Robert Schirmer.
Survivors include: a son, Dane Schirmer; her mother, Buhler; five brothers, Paul Herrin, Shanghi, China, Cole Herrin, Hutchinson, Michael Herrin, Boise, Idaho, Todd Herrin, Newton, Cory Herrin, San Diego; a sister, Kelly Wyer, Edmond, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Father Stuart Smeltzer presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main, Hutchinson.

Martha Irene Hahn
Martha Irene Hahn, 104, died Aug. 25, 2004, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
She was born Nov. 7, 1899, in rural Barton County, near Dundee, the daughter of John Andrew and Susan Regina Schmidt Unruh. A Hutchinson resident since 1946, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and to the Veterans of World War I Women's Group.
On Oct. 9, 1927, she married
Virgil Jacob Hahn at St. John. He died June 17, 1985.
Survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis Hulse, Wichita, and Iva Reihl, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by: three brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Alan D. Stambaugh presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.

Earl R. Deck
Earl R. Deck, 63, died Aug. 27, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 3, 1940, at Chase, the son of Earl W. and Mary J. Martin Deck. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he was a retired truck driver for Amcon.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert L., Hutchinson, and Keith E., Wichita; three daughters, Carol J. Mellenbruch, Carla S. Wright, both of Hutchinson, and Pat D. Deck, Wichita; a brother, Michael D., Winona Lake, Ind.; two sisters, Athelyn L. Buckley, Bella Vista, Ark., and Linda M. Krebbs, Bellingham, Wash.; five grandchildren; and a loving friend, Randy K. Wood, Hutchinson.
Cremation is planned. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel, Hutchinson. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
