Lucille C. Schauf
GARDEN PLAIN - Lucille C. Brandes Schauf, 87, died Nov. 5, 2004, at Penrose Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was born April 1, 1917, at Garden Plain. A Colorado Springs resident, previously a longtime resident of Garden Plain, she was a retired homemaker and businesswoman.
On April 29, 1941, she married
George J. Schauf at Garden Plain. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: a son; two daughters; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Garden Plain. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Father David Linnebur presiding. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lanterman Funeral Home, Cheney. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Church Cemetery, Garden Plain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church in care of the funeral home.
Maria S. Valle
NEWTON - Maria Socorro Valle, 85, died Nov. 6, 2004, at her home, Newton.
She was born Jan. 22, 1919, at San Jose C.C. Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Refuquio and Irinea Rios Vazquez.
One of her proudest events was becoming a United States citizen.
In 1937, she married
Arcadio Valle at San Jose C.C. Jalisco, Mexico. He died Oct. 26, 1986.
Survivors include: six sons, Severiano, Alex, Antonio, Jose, Catarino, and Joaquin, all of Newton; three daughters, Elena Espana and Maria Valle, both of Newton, and Ramira Valle Lopez; 27 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Floyd McKinney presiding. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton.

Tracy R. Tudor
LARNED - Tracy R. Tudor, 52, died Nov. 3, 2004, at Russell Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 10, 1952, at Abilene, the son of James R. and Geraldine Alma Swedenberg Tudor. He was a lifetime resident of Pawnee County.
Survivors include: two brothers, Michael H., Afton, Okla., and David B., Claflin; and several nephews and nieces.
Private graveside service was Saturday in Garfield Cemetery, with Father James F. Graner presiding.

Charles W. Weems
KINGMAN - Charles W. Weems, 87, died Nov. 5, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born Dec. 27, 1917, at Greenville, Tenn., the son of Benjamin and Lu Brown Weems. A longtime Kingman resident, he was a retired driver for Graves Truck Line.
On Aug. 23, 1937, he married
Dorothy Stramel at Denver. She died April 7, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Charles, Wichita; two daughters, Rebecca Sue Brooks, Wichita, and Sherry Plenert, Canton; a brother, Tom, Englewood, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison and Jay; and three sisters, Mable Voight, Fawn Teal and Dell Weems.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman, with the Rev. Karen Ault presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman.

Violet Jean Powers
GREAT BEND - Violet Jean Powers, 70, died Nov. 6, 2004, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend.
She was born June 18, 1934, at Essex, Iowa, the daughter of Frans and Ellen Seagreen Johnson. A Great Bend resident since 1963, moving from Shenandoah, Iowa, she was a homemaker and had been a sales clerk for Brown Shoe Fit Co., Great Bend.
She belonged to St. Mark Lutheran Church and Sweet Adelines, both at Great Bend.
On March 2, 1956, she married
Bill F. Powers at Essex, Iowa. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Mark, Wichita; two daughters, Jean Porter, Wichita, and Carol Sattarin, Kansas City, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Phil Youngquist presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Emily Rose Gross
BAZINE - Emily Rose Gross, 19, died Nov. 6, 2004, at Hays.
She was born Aug. 2, 1985, at Hays, the daughter of Marvin D. and Denise Dinges Gross. A lifetime resident of Bazine, she graduated from Bazine High School and was a sophomore at Fort Hays State University.
She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ness City.
Survivors include: her parents, Bazine; two brothers, Terry Gross, Ness City, and Dylan Gross, Bazine; a sister, Sara Gross, Bazine; and grandparents, Wendelin and Alvera Dinges, Hays.
Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ness City. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Father Henry Hildebrandt presiding. Friends may sign register from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Bazine Cemetery.

Dorothy Chiles
DODGE CITY - Dorothy Chiles, 76, died Nov. 4, 2004, at Dodge City.
She was born Jan. 5, 1928, at Ellinwood, the daughter of John and Ida Marie Mayer Thul. She graduated from Ellinwood High School and attended Brown-Mackie College, Salina. Moving to Dodge City in 1969, she graduated from Dodge City Community College nursing program and went to work for Trinity Hospital. She retired from Western Plains Medical Complex in 1992.
She belonged to Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Altar Society, Liberal, and Senior Friends.
Survivors include: a son, David, Dodge City; four daughters, Sharon Scarbourogh, Linda Conley, both of Dodge City, Mary Helfrich, Pimento, Ind., and Patty Maas, St. John; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Maple Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Wesley Schawe presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bertha I. Thompson
LIBERAL - Bertha I. Thompson, 91, died Nov. 4, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
She was born May 15, 1913, at Cany Forks, Okla., the daughter of Early D. and Carrie Lamberson Newhouse. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1932. A Liberal resident since 1930, she farmed with her husband for many years north of Liberal.
She belonged to Progressive Grange, Liberal.
On May 15, 1937, she married
John Thompson at Liberal. He died in 1951.
Survivors include: seven nephews, Johnnie Jones, Grove, Okla., Frank Jones, Collinsville, Okla., Paul Hansen, Shawnee, Ralph Hansen, Overland Park, Leslie Hansen, Warsaw, Mo., Jerry Newhouse, Katy, Texas, and Jack Newhouse, Edmond, Okla.; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Miller Chapel, Liberal, with Pastor Ralph Hansen presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to service time Monday, both at Miller Mortuary. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.

Doris Florine Plank
LYONS - Doris Florine Plank, 77, died Nov. 6, 2004, at Lyons District Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2, 1927, at Newton, the daughter of Gerhardt and Frieda Schroeder Harms. She attended Barton County Community College and Pratt Community College. A Lyons resident since 1981, previously of Kiowa, Medicine Lodge and Pratt, she was a homemaker and former bookkeeper.
She belonged to United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sorosis Club, Eastern Star, Lyons Senior Center Board and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board, along with other organizations.
On Jan. 13, 1945, she married
Virgil Alexander at Oklahoma City. Then on Feb. 18, 1965, she married
Samuel Plank at Pratt. He died Oct. 30, 1986.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beverly Owen, Alva, Okla., and Wanda Reid, Lyons; five stepdaughters, Pat Crowl, Lyons, Judy Cain, Lyons, Diane Larson, McPherson, Jerri Richardson, Pryor, Okla., Tammy Merchant, Point, Texas; two brothers, Gerhardt Harms, Pratt, and Paul Harms, Wichita; a sister, Pauline Cochran, Federal Way, Wash.; a sister-in-law; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita Sturd, Margaret Arnold and Geraldine Eisenhower.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Lyons, with the Rev. Cindy Watson presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
