GREENSBURG - Nelson L. Tebu, 55, died Oct. 28, 2004, at his home, Cathedral City, Calif.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.

Victor E. Stucky
DENVER - Victor Eugene Stucky, 83, died Oct. 10, 2004, at Denver, Colo. He was born Feb. 19, 1921, at Castleton.

Survivors include: former spouse, Ruth Markle Stucky; three sons, Steven, Scott and Mark; two daughters, Sherry and Judith; two sisters, Florence Hayes, Hutchinson, and Ruth Galle, Moundridge; and seven grandchildren.

Lawrence Michael Via
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Lawrence Michael Via, 60, died July 15, 2004, at Albuquerque, N.M., from complications of diabetes.

He was born Aug. 9, 1943, in Manhattan, son of Clarence Wilson Via and Hazelbel Hutchins Via.

He was a graduate of Santa Fe, N.M., High School and the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. He worked as an architect for the university.

Survivors include: his sister, Melinda Via, Thompson Falls, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother, known in later years as Haley Carmody; brother, David; and grandparents, Dorsey and Bertha Hutchins, Dighton.

Memorials to Thompson Falls Public Library or American Diabetes Association.

Freda Davis
WICHITA - Freda Lorraine Davis, 82, homemaker, died Oct. 27, 2004.

Freda leaves to cherish: her daughter, Jane Campbell, Wichita; sons, Charles (Constance) Davis, Valley Center, Tom (Kathy) Davis, Vienna, Va., Jim (Sandi) Davis, Norman, Okla., Walt (Sherry) Davis, Choctaw, Okla.; a brother, Galen (Lorena) Showalter, Eugene, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Reba (Jack) Grady, Wichita, Ruby Showalter, Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel, Wichita. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to First Church of the Brethren, in care of the funeral home.

Henry Stephens
WASHOUGAL, Wash. - Henry Stephens, 82, died Oct. 26, 2004, at his home, Washougal, Wash.

He was born July 11, 1922, at Parkhill, Okla., on Cherokee Trust Land and enrolled as a member of Cherokee Nation. A former resident of Hutchinson, he worked for various utility and community development agencies in executive positions in Oregon and Washington.

He was an amateur boxer winning several Golden Gloves championships. He won a bronze medal in 2003 for golf at the Senior World Games, St. George, Utah.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Fern, of the home; a son; two daughters; two brothers, Jessie and Howard Stephens, both of Hutchinson; a sister, Katy DeWald, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, his body will be cremated. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore. Straub's Funeral Home, Camas, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Atha Mulch
SCOTT CITY - Atha Mulch, 93, died Oct. 28, 2004, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City.

She was born March 31, 1911, at Rush County, the daughter of John and Carrie Wildin Miller. A resident of Scott City since 1935, moving from Rush County, she graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree. She worked as a schoolteacher.

She belonged to United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both at Scott City, Retired Teachers Association and Fort Hays Alumni Association, Hays.

On Aug. 8, 1937, she married Vernon E. Mulch at Nekoma. He died Dec. 31, 1988.

Survivors include: a son, Robert V., Scott City; a daughter, Mary Beth Hinze, Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, Alta V. Miller, Hutchinson; three grandsons; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a brother, Harold Miller; and three sisters, Ethel West, Hazel Moyle and Clara West.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire presiding. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, both at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Memorials may be sent to the church in care of the funeral home.

Rachel Gilliland
GREAT BEND - Rachel Gilliland, 87, died Oct. 28, 2004, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.

She was born Dec. 19, 1916, at Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Martin and Antonnette Deutsch Nufer. A resident of Great Bend for 47 years, moving from McCook, Neb., she was a homemaker.

She belonged to St. Mark Lutheran Church, Great Bend, and was a lifetime member of Eagles Lodge.

In 1937, she married Alvin T. Herzberg. He died in 1952. Then, on June 6, 1955, she married Andrew Ralph Gilliland at Carlsbad, N. M. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Willard W. Herzberg, Chase; a stepson, Benjamin R. Gilliland, Vista, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Mary A. Burns, Patsy R. Southard, both of Augusta, and Betty M. Diver, Towanda; a sister, Elsie Verhelst, Emporia; 26 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a son, Dale A. Herzberg; four brothers, Alvin, Melvin, Leo and Elmer Nufer; and three sisters, Leah Harms, Louise Eichman and Edna Ashley.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. James Strasen presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, both at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the church or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Marilyn J. Olson
ULYSSES - Marilyn Jane Olson, 71, died Oct. 28, 2004, after a short illness of lung cancer.

She was born Jan. 15, 1933, at Fairmount, Minn., the daughter of Ralph Peter and Ruby Louise Rosenkranz Selness. She graduated from Wheaton High School, Dumont, Minn., in 1950. A 36-year resident of Ulysses, she worked in the meat department of Bill's IGA for 25 years and currently was the assistant activities director at Western Prairie Care Home, Ulysses.

She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dumont, Minn., and belonged to Rose Lane Church of God, Ulysses.

On Nov. 9, 1951, she married George T. Olson at Bethesda, Md. He survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Thomas, Newton; three daughters, Cindy Beckman, Dumas, Texas, Pam Arnold, Ulysses, and Dianna Nikkel, Wichita; a brother, Larry Selness, Olympia, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a brother, Darrell Selness; and three sisters, Marjorie Marthe, Lona Zblewski and Vicki Ritter.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Rose Lane Church of God, Ulysses, with Pastors Mike Wirt and Kenneth and Alma Lampp presiding. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society or ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig's disease), both in care of the funeral home.

Vernon F. Dargel
GREENSBURG - Vernon Fredrick Dargel, 78, died Oct. 28, 2004, at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.

He was born April 10, 1926, in rural Kiowa County, the son of Louie Fredrick and Clella Swiggett Dargel. A resident of Greensburg, he worked at Northern Natural Gas Co. for 30 years and as a farmer for 30 years and recently owned and operated a mowing business for 10 years.

He belonged to Big Well Campers Club and Rockin Country Band.

On May 28, 1946, he married Jeanetta Stegman at Ashland. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Steven, Greensburg; two daughters, Karren Couch, Houston, and Tamra S. Brungardt, Great Bend; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: a brother, Lloyd; three sisters, Goldie Dargel Beydler, Estell Dargel Barnes and Silva Dargel; and a grandson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Christian Church, Greensburg, with Pastor Arnett Williams presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Fleener Funeral Chapel, Greensburg.

Memorials may be sent to Kiowa County Senior Center, Greensburg, or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Bette Beasley
NEWTON - Bette Jean Andrews Beasley, 78, died Oct. 29, 2004, at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 25, 1926, at Burlington, Colo., the daughter of Leon T. and Edna T. Lindberg Andrews. A resident of Newton, she worked as a cook at Presbyterian Manor for many years, retiring in 1984.

She was a lifetime member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries. She belonged to United Methodist Church, all at Newton, and Royal Neighbors Club.

On April 10, 1943, she married Allen Kinney Beasley at Oskaloosa. He survives, Newton.

Other survivors include: four sons, Allan G., Hutchinson, Kenneth, Sterling, Donald, Keller, and Ronald, Cleburne, Texas; a brother, John Andrews, Stillwater, Okla.; two sisters, Arlene and Leona Andrews, both of Atwater, Calif; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Edward.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, Okla., with Pastor Bob Garringer presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, both at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association Inc. in care of the funeral home.
