Artie D. Gifford
KINSLEY - Artie D. Gifford, 81, died Nov. 18, 2004, at her home, Kinsley.
She was born Oct. 18, 1923, at Cameron, Mo., the daughter of William A. and Ima Mae Wigglesworth Wright. A Kinsley resident since 1947, she was owner of Gifford Jewelry, Kinsley.
She belonged to the Episcopal Church and Eastern Star and was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all at Kinsley.
On Aug. 10, 1947, she married
Dale J. Gifford at Cameron, Mo. He died Jan. 22, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Dale J., Titusville, Fla.; a daughter, Belinda B. Thompson, Fort Scott; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley, with Father James Graner presiding.

John C. Mann
PROTECTION - John C. "Jack" Mann, 79, died Nov. 17, 2004, at his home, San Angelo, Texas.
He was born Feb. 25, 1925, at Norwich, N.Y. A resident of San Angelo, Texas, for the past seven years, formerly a 14-year Protection resident and a 22-year resident of El Paso, Texas, he retired as master sergeant in the U.S. Army.
He was in the U.S. Army for 22 years, with tours in Vietnam and Korea.
On Dec. 31, 1955, he married
Bea Jellison at Wichita. She survives, San Angelo, Texas.
Other survivors include: two sons, including Steve, Protection; a daughter; a sister; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Protection, with the Rev. Dennis Carter presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater. Burial will be in Protection Cemetery, with full military honors.
Memorials may be sent to Shriners' Hospitals for Children in care of the funeral home.
Martin J. 'Sonny' Morawitz
ANTHONY - Martin J. "Sonny" Morawitz, 68, died June 26, 2004, in Harper County.
He was born Nov. 12, 1935, in Harper County, the son of Yaroslav "Jerry" and Zelphia Jane Paulk Morawitz. A resident of Harper County, he retired as a farmer and bulldozer operator for Grant County, Okla.
On Jan. 19, 1958, he married
Betty J. Phillips at Anthony. She died Feb. 17, 1999.
Other survivors include: three sons, Jimmy, Wakita, Okla., and Randy and Billy, both of Manchester, Okla.; three daughters, Teresa Dodgen, Anthony, Jerri Wiechman, Manchester, Okla., and Brenda Allen, Byron, Okla.; a brother, Frankie "Bud, " Hutchinson; two sisters, Marjorie "Dolly" Daines, Hutchinson, and Jannette Talley, Goddard; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony, with Chaplain Tal Titsworth presiding.

Rodney 'Marvin' Schadt
EMPORIA - Rodney "Marvin" Schadt, 93, died June 25, 2004, at his home at Emporia.
He was born June 24, 1911, at Stull, Douglas County. A resident of Emporia, formerly of Ellinwood, he worked as a superintendent of the Ellinwood school system for 13 years. He also taught at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, along with having other jobs as a teacher and principal. He retired in 1978.
He was Dean of Academic Affairs at the College of Emporia for three years and served four years as superintendent of schools at Hillsboro, completing his 43 years in education. He was elected to the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 1993.
On June 3, 1941, he married
Florence M. Kirby at Baldwin.
Survivors include: four children; a sister, Naomi Lietzke, Newton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Emporia, with the Rev. Dr. James Darby presiding. Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, is in charge of arrangements.
Elma E. Strausz
KINGMAN - Elma E. Strausz, 86, died June 24, 2004, at Kingman.
A resident of Kingman, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include: a granddaughter, Cassie Cowan, Overland Park; a son-in-law, Grant Cowan, Overland Park; a nephew and a niece, Richard and Betty Stucky, Moundridge.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Cowan; and two brothers, Herbert Preheim and Andrew Albrech.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kingman Mennonite Church. All Faiths Funeral Services, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
Naomi Rouser
Naomi Rouser, 92, died June 25, 2004, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
She was born May 29, 1912, in rural Reno County, the daughter of Otto and Orpha French Crutcher. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1931 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1933. She was a former resident and schoolteacher at Lyons, Wichita, Casper, Wyo., and Oklahoma City, moving back to Hutchinson 16 months ago. She started teaching in rural Rice County.
She belonged to Woodland Methodist Church of Wichita and PEO and Republican Women of Wichita. She was the first woman appointed to the Sedgwick County Board of Health.
In 1938, she married
Ray William Rouser at First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. He died Jan. 19, 1985.
Survivors include: a son, Dan R., Wichita; a brother, John Crutcher, Jefferson, N.C.; and a sister, Sally Thompson, St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by: a brother, Eldon Crutcher; two sisters, Virginia Huey and Maureen Crutcher; and two brothers-in-law, Bruce Huey and Neal Thompson.
Private family graveside service will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

June McAllister
NICKERSON - June McAllister, 74, died June 25, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1930, at Lyons, the daughter of Reginald Frances and Pauline Winifred Crum Worman. She graduated from Hutchinson High School. A resident of Nickerson, she was a homemaker.
On Nov. 1, 1951, she married
Clifford J. McAllister at Nickerson. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Clifford Jr., Hutchinson, and Kit, Nickerson; a sister, Jill Blankerbaker, Colorado Springs; her mother, Colorado Springs; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her father; and a twin sister, Jean Phillips.
Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence Eugene Turner
ROLLA - Lawrence Eugene Turner, 91, died June 25, 2004, at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart.
He was born June 5, 1913, at Oklahoma City, the son of Ernest Arthur and Minnie Bell Turner. A resident of Rolla, having spent several years in rural Hugoton, he was a carpenter.
He belonged to Masonic Lodge, IOOF and Carpenter Union.
Survivors include family and friends.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. in Moscow Cemetery, Moscow, with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Jerry L. Duncan
FREEPORT - Jerry Lee Duncan, 69, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Wichita.
He was born Sept. 23, 1935, at Anthony, the son of Harold and Irma Lee Dunfield Duncan. A longtime Freeport resident, formerly of McPherson, Hutchinson and Wellington, he was a meat cutter, farmer and stockman.
He belonged to Freeport Presbyterian Church.
On Nov. 24, 1953, he married
Roberta Cordwell at Freeport. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Dan Duncan, Denver; a daughter, Andrea Duncan, Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Anthony; two sisters, Jo Hillen, Wichita, and Janet Shaw, Plano, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Williams Chapel, Anthony. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday, at the chapel. The casket will remain closed. Interment will be in Freeport Cemetery.
