Dean H. Ratzlaff
GREAT BEND - Dean H. Ratzlaff, 88, died Nov. 21, 2004, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
He was born April 6, 1916, at Great Bend, the son of Jake and Emma Unruh Ratzlaff. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was an under sheriff for Barton County Sheriff's Department.
He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.
On March 29, 1941, he married
Clara Belle Hixon at Wichita. She died May 18, 1974. On May 6, 1978, he married
Johnnie G. Dixon Bessette at Great Bend. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Georgia Gates, Overland Park; a stepson, Bob Standerfer, Marlow, Okla.; two stepdaughters, Steina Bessette, Carbondale, and Twilla McKee, Topeka; seven grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marion Weese; a brother, George Ratzlaff; and a sister, Rhoda Avis.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Dundee Valley Cemetery, Dundee, with Mr. Milton Raymer presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend.

Velma P. Martin
CIMARRON - Velma P. Martin, 102, died Nov. 19, 2004, at Shepherd of the Plains Nursing Home, Cimarron.
She was born Dec. 2, 1901, at Greensburg, the daughter of John and Lizzie Johnson Standley. She was a former resident of Lamar, Colo., recently living at Cimarron.
Survivors include: a sister, Verdie, Cottonwood, Ariz., and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Fox; second husband, Oscar Felton; third husband, B.O. "Bertie" Martin; a son, Bobbie Fox; and a daughter, Lucille Fox.
Services have taken place. Memorials may be sent to Shepherd of the Plains Nursing Home, in care of Peacock Funeral Home, Lamar.
Robert I. Neff
BURLINGTON, Okla. - Robert I. "Bob" Neff, 98, died Nov. 23, 2004, at Kiowa District Hospital.
He was born Oct. 25, 1906, on the family farm north of Burlington, the son of Charles W. and Anna Vogel Neff. A lifetime farmer, he also worked for the Kiowa's Sales Co., sorting cattle for the sales pen.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 256th Construction Battalion and 256th Battalion Signal Corps.
Survivors include: a brother, Harold, Scotts Bluff, Neb.; two nephews; a niece; two great-nephews; and a great-niece.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hazelton, with Pastor Gib Clark Presiding.

Robert Sargent
LIBERAL - Robert Sargent, 75, died Nov. 21, 2004, at his home.
He was born May 13, 1929, at Payson, Okla., the son of Robert W. and Cecelia Heimer Sargent. He graduated from Meeker High School, Meeker, Okla. While living at Springfield, Colo., he worked in the oilfield and began the Sargent Casing Pulling Service. He moved to Liberal in 1969, where he continued his business until 2001.
He belonged to Masonic Lodge, Meeker.
On Oct. 14, 1969, he married
Dorothy L. Portlock Blair at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Lindell Blair, Irving, Calif., Terry Blair and Doug Blair, both of Liberal, and Jack Blair, Dalhart, Texas; six daughters, Caren Hantz, Freemont, Calif., Cathy Sargent, San Jose, Calif., Susan Wilson, Mesa, Ariz., Sandra Kilgore, Liberal, Marsha Younger, Derby, and Pam Clark, Hartley, Texas; two sisters, Violet Horton, Springfield, Mo., and Betty Foley, Clearwater, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a son, Chris Sargent; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Randy Cook presiding. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Walter C. Goodwin
DODGE CITY - Walter C. "Silver" Goodwin, 84, died Nov. 22, 2004, at his home, Dodge City.
He was born July 18, 1920, in Gray County, the son of Ed and Anna Kirkpatrick Goodwin. He was a heavy-duty diesel mechanic for many years, retiring from Binford Construction.
He belonged to Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dodge City.
In 1941, he married
Virginia Stout at Dodge City. She died July 4, 1996.
Survivors include: a daughter, Judy Bell, Dodge City; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with military rites conducted by Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.

Madelyn Hoffman
GARDEN CITY - Madelyn Hoffman, 62, died Nov. 22, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
She was born Sept. 18, 1942, at Swatch, Colo., the daughter of Mike and Ruby Woodson. A Garden City resident since 1959, she worked for more than 20 years at The Wheatland Hotel, Garden City.
On June 25, 1959, she married
Walter Hoffman at Garden City. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Harold and Howard Hoffman, both of Garden City; three daughters, Agnes Hernandez, Scott City, Karen Hoffman, Garden City, and Marilyn Hoffman, Manhattan; a brother, Frank Pacheco, Garden City; five sisters, Evelyn Valencia and Marian Lucero, both of Montrose, Colo., Gloria Pacheco and Rose Garcia, both of Denver, and Siria Pacheco, Garden City; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Henry Hoffman; a daughter, Tillie Ruby Hoffman; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Colorado.

Joyce I. McGinn
SEDGWICK - Joyce Irene McGinn, 55, died Nov. 21, 2004, at her home in Sedgwick.
She was born June 23, 1949, at Wichita, the daughter of Robert E. and Alvera A. Schoenecker Johnson. She owned and operated the Hair Cellar for 30 years until her death.
She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, Sedgwick Booster Club, was a United Way volunteer and served as a director of the Fall Festival for many years.
On May 3, 1969, she married
Michael "Mick" McGinn. He survives.
Other survivors include: her mother, Sedgwick; three sons, Michael P., and Scott B., both of Sedgwick, and Steven J. McGinn, Newton; a daughter, Michele S. McGinn, Chicago; three brothers, Sydney R. Johnson, Wichita, Robert E. Johnson II, Tulsa, Okla., and Edmond J. Johnson, Sedgwick; three sisters, Anita I. Holland, Slidell, La., Patricia A. Ropp, Los Gatos, Calif., and Marcella K. Aycock, Sedgwick; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; an infant daughter, Mary Angela McGinn, and a sister, Mary Jane Dealy.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Halstead. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Fathers Thomas Wai and Brian Nelson presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick.

Beatrice Bradbury
GARDEN CITY - Beatrice "Bea" Bradbury, 83, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Morton County Long Term Care, Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 20, 1921, in southeastern Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Rozella Mae Coach Warren. A Garden City resident since 1996, formerly of Washington, Scott City and Beloit, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 28 years.
She belonged to First Baptist Church, Garden City, The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 359, The Garden Club, Southwestern Bell Pioneers, and Senior Center, Garden City.
On Oct. 29, 1938, she married
Delbert M. Bradbury at Pitcher, Okla. He died Feb. 4, 1994.
Survivors include: a daughter, Marion Chappel, Garden City; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Fay "Suzy" Buell.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Father James E. Baker presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

John V. Welch
LYONS - John V. Welch, 70, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Nov. 22, 1934, at Seminole, Okla., the son of John V. and Ruth Lisle Welch. A Lyons resident since 2004, formerly and longtime resident of Palestine and Dallas, Texas, and Ellinwood, he was a construction supervisor at Texas Department of Corrections.
He belonged to Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both at Palestine. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
On Sept. 15, 1956, he married
Lauralee Cessna at Lyons.
Survivors include: two sons, John Welch, Palestine, and George Welch, Dallas; a daughter, Lori Samaniego, Lyons; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Verle Lee Welch, and two sisters, Bernadine Watson and Norene Welch.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home, Lyons, with the Rev. Curtis Fitzgerald presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute.
