DIGHTON - Jay Stevens McGowan, 67, died Nov. 16, 2004, at his home, Topeka.
He was born Nov. 14, 1937, at Dighton. He graduated with honors from Dighton High School and received his master's degree in education from University of Kansas. A Topeka resident, formerly of Dighton, he was a longtime librarian for Topeka and Shawnee County public libraries.
Survivors include: a sister, June Wick, Dighton; several nephews; and a niece.
Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Bever presiding.

Leota F. Sebbert
IOLA - Leota F. Sebbert, 81, of Iola, died Nov. 18, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, former Hutchinson resident Deanna Hoffmeier and husband, Lynn, Lawrence.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Chapel, Iola. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Anna M. Bitner
MANTER - Anna M. Bitner, 91, died Nov. 19, 2004, at Morton County Hospital, Elkhart.
Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Garnand Funeral Home, Elkhart.
Esther M. Zook
HESSTON - Esther M. Zook, 80, died Dec. 4, 2004, at Hesston.
She was born Aug. 19, 1924, at LaGrange, Ind., the daughter of Mahlon and Mary Kauffman Neff. A Hesston resident since 1985, formerly a seven-year Gulfport, Miss., resident and a four-year Indiana resident, she was a homemaker and food service employee.
She belonged to Hesston Mennonite Church.
On March 15, 1952, she married
Allen Zook at Shipshewana, Ind. He survives, Hesston.
Other survivors include: a son, David, Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters, Elaine Barge, Harrisonburg, Va., Lois Arndt, Montrose, Colo., and Donna Rutter, Stryker, Ohio; three brothers, Elmer and Wayne Neff, both of LaGrange, Ind., and Ernest Neff, her twin, Shipshewana, Ind.; a sister, Mary Treible, Elkhart, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hesston Mennonite Church, with the Rev. John Murray presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Hesston, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Eastlawn Cemetery, near Hesston.

Shirley Warren
LIBERAL - Shirley Warren, 45, died Dec. 3, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
She was born June 30, 1959, at Fort Knox, Ky., the daughter of John H. and Shirley J. Bradley Hayes. Moving from Topeka to Liberal in 1999, she worked in the bakery at Wal-Mart.
She belonged to Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La.
On June 4, 2000, she married
Brent T. Warren at Liberal. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Joe, Topeka; her father, Derham Springs, La.; two brothers, John Anthony Hayes, Baton Rouge, La., and John Wesley Hayes, San Antonio; four sisters, Tina Marie Pendley, Derham Springs, La., Carry Jeanette Dunbar, Topeka, Cathy Louise Southern, Topeka, and Doris Elizabeth Hall, Walker, La.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Wyatt Carpenter presiding. Inurnment will be at a later date. Miller Mortuary, Liberal, is in charge of arrangements.

LARNED - Hal LeRoy Kelly, 74, died Dec. 4, 2004, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Larned.

Hazel I. Dick
GREENSBURG - Hazel I. Dick, 82, died Dec. 3, 2004, at Hilltop Manor, Cunningham.
She was born May 1, 1922, at Newton, the daughter of Neal and Blanche Wall. She graduated from Newton High School in 1940. A Cunningham resident for the past year, formerly of Newton, Topeka, Henderson, Neb., Wichita and Greensburg from 1958 to 2003, she was a motel and restaurant owner and operator.
She belonged to Greensburg Assembly of God for 28 years and the Kansas Motel and Restaurant Association.
On Nov. 29, 1942, she married
August Dick at Newton. He died April 11, 2000.
Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Osner and husband, Mel, Hutchinson, and Sandy Foster and husband, Brian, Greensburg; five grandchildren, Erica Pitts and husband, Tim, Angela Branscom and husband, Steve, Jeremy McDowell and friend Holeola Hutchinson, all of Hutchinson, Alyssa Brown and husband, Brandon, Greensburg, and Terry McDowell, Kansas City; eight great-grandchildren, Denton, Alexis and Laci Branscom, Kahalaview and Paige McDowell, Rorick and Corbin Pina and Cristina Brown; and two sisters, Helen Richardson, Newton, and Hilda Thornbrough, Newton.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and a sister, Hilma S. Schroeder.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fleener Funeral Chapel, Greensburg, with Karen Raw presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.

W. Donald Matthews
ANTHONY - W. Donald Matthews, 94, died Dec. 1, 2004, at Wichita.
He was born Dec. 10, 1909, near Gibbon, Okla., the son of Charles William and Inna Zeta Barr Matthews. An Anthony resident, he was a farmer, Boeing Aircraft employee and owner/operator/manager of Winfield Bus Barn.
He belonged to Anthony Lions Club and United Methodist Church, Anthony.
On Aug. 1, 1935, he married
Winona Wise at Penalosa. She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Joyce Dudeck and husband, Keith, Donna Jean Marten and husband, John, all of Wichita, and Gwendolyn Montgomery and husband, Larry, Topeka; a daughter-in-law, Jana Schnackenberg Hirschman, Wichita; a sister, Betty Jean Robinson, Winfield; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Anthony, with the Rev. Nathan Stanton presiding. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony.

Herschel Webber
SUBLETTE - Herschel Webber, 86, died Dec. 3, 2004, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, Okla.
He was born May 20, 1918, in Seward County, the son of Grant Herschel and Anna E. Brier Webber. He was a lifetime area resident. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He belonged to the Christian Church, where he was a past elder and chairman on the building committee, and Sublette American Legion Post No. 205.
On Dec. 14, 1945, he married
Cecyle LaFawn Pennington at Sublette. She died Sept. 27, 1999.
Survivors include: three sons, Howard Herschel, Tulsa, Okla., Timothy Charles, Sublette, and Scot Albert, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Leann LaFawn Morgan, Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Albert McLeod; and a sister, Doris Arnett.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church, Sublette, with Minister David Erwin presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with military graveside rites conducted by Sublette American Legion Post No. 205.

Orba I. Day
ATTICA - Orba I. Day, 92, died Dec. 3, 2004, at Wheatlands Health Center, Kingman.
She was born Aug. 19, 1912, at Rochester Township, Kingman County, the daughter of James W. and Estelle Maude Wilcox Jacobs. She graduated from Zenda Rural High School in 1931 and then received her teacher's certificate from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. A resident of Attica since 1951, formerly of Harper County, she was an elementary school teacher, working at rural schools in Kingman County from 1934 to 1947, and also worked as a homemaker.
On June 16, 1946, she married
Clark E. Day near Zenda. He died Feb. 14, 1977.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary I. Morris, Wichita, and Ruth Ann Thrasher, Cunningham; a brother, Nelson C. Jacobs, Kingman; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James W. and Everett, an infant; and two sisters, Mary Lou and Lois I. Jacobs.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Attica, with the Rev. Elton J. Hunter presiding. Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southwest of Zenda.

Earnest C. Davis
PIERCEVILLE - Earnest Clay Davis, 78, died Nov. 12, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
He was born June 9, 1926, in Gray County, the son of Ira Clay and Lizzie Beth Walker Davis. He attended country schools in Gray County. A lifetime resident of Gray and Finney counties, he worked in the grain department for Garden City Co-op for many years.
He belonged to Pierceville Federated Church and Eagles Lodge, Garden City.
On Oct. 29, 1949, he married
Ruby Foreman in Finney County. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Howard, Montezuma, and David, Laredo, Texas; five daughters, Bonnie Woods, Pierceville, Donna Schwaller, International Falls, Minn., Connie Knoll, Blanchard, Okla., Vicky Waltz, Fort Gibson, Okla., and Diane Lee, Garden City; two brothers, Dean, Pueblo, Colo., and Floyd Davis, Pierceville; a sister, Dorothy Kreutzer, Garden City; 19 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Pierceville Federated Church, with the Rev. Charles Wagher presiding. Burial will be in Pierceville Cemetery.
