Ruth M. Clowe

Ruth M. Clowe, 93, of Seneca, Kansas, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Crestview Manor Care Home in Seneca.
She was born July 2, 1908, at Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of George and Emma Luepold Howard. She grew up there and attended Centralia public schools.
On November 25, 1925, she married Harold "Speck" Clowe in Marysville, Kansas. They lived in Seneca. Ruth was a mother and a homemaker. After their own children were grown, they provided foster care at different times to three boys and a girl. Later she worked as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney's, the Florence Ann Shoppe and the Thornburg Decorator. Her husband died February 29, 1992. They had been married 67 years at the time of his death.
She was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, of which she was a past president. She was also a member and past president of the Seneca Woman's Club, a member of the Eastern Star Iris Chapter No. 357, and a charter member of both the Seneca Business and Professional Women's Club and the Nemaha County Historical Society.
Survivors are a son, Derrel Clowe of Hastings, Nebraska; a daughter; Carol Sue Noe of Topeka, Kansas; a sister, Norma Talley of Olathe; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Noe on October 13, 1979; two sisters, Ethel Farley and Dorthee Schoonover; and two brothers, Floyd Howard and Loren Paul Howard.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Friday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca where she will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. Thursday. The burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given for the Stained Glass Fund at the Seneca United Methodist Church or to the Seneca Free Library and sent in care of the family.

Herbert B. Cole

Herbert B. Cole, 79, of Seneca, Kansas, died Monday at Crestview Manor in Seneca. He had been a resident there since August 31, 1995.
He was born September 19, 1921, at Temple, Texas, the son of James A. and Ella Brown Cole. He lived in several different states while he was growing up and graduated from Lincoln High School in Billings, Montana. He entered the US Army in 1941 during World War II and served in the south Pacific. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Montana and was employed by the highway department and the railroad. Later he moved to St. Joseph, MO, where he was employed as a steam engineer for a laundry and as a surgical technician for Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph for several years.
In 1951 he married Billie Joan Smith. They were later divorced.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors are a daughter, Crystal Cole of St. Joseph, Mo; two brothers, James Cole and David Cole both of California.
Graveside services with full military honors will be 11 A.M. Thursday at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
Memorials may be given for Crestview Manor, 808 North 8th St., Seneca, Kansas 66538.

Marie M. Conley

Marie M. Conley, 82, of Centralia, KS, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Onaga Hospital, Onaga, Kansas. She was transferred there from the Eastridge Care Home in Centralia where she had been a resident since December of 2000.
She was born June 16, 1920, on a farm east of Kelly, KS, the second youngest of 14 children of John and Anna Schurman Heinen. She attended St. Bede’s School at Kelly. When she was young, she worked for area families helping out with new babies. She worked at Harsh’s Drug Store in Seneca before her marriage, and for a few years as a cook at the Centralia schools after her children graduated from high school.
On May 4, 1946, she married Ivan Conley at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca, KS. They lived east of Centralia where they farmed and ran a dairy. In the spring of 1953 they moved to a farm southwest of Centralia. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1996. Her husband preceded her in death on July 29, 1998. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Harold, on January 4, 1947, and an infant daughter, Lori Ann, on December 9, 1963.
Besides her husband and children she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Henry, Jacob, Aloysius, George, Joseph, Edward, and Leonard; and four sisters Amelia Wilhelm, Elizabeth Wilhelm, Agnes Wilhelm, and Catherine Sextro.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church at Corning, a member and past president of the Altar Society, and taught CCD classes at the church. She was also a member of the Armstrong-Moyer Post #216 of the American Legion Auxiliary at Centralia where she had held various offices.
Survivors are four sons, Jerry Conley and Alan Conley, both of Havensville, KS, Howard Conley of Omaha, and Neil Conley of Wichita; three daughters, Margie Feldkamp of Centralia, Dorothy Henry and Lola Hower, both of Topeka; a sister, Susanna Huerter of Seneca; a brother, Raymond Heinen of Goff, KS; 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church at Corning, Kansas. The burial will be at the Centralia Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca, Kansas, on Sunday at 2 P.M. and at 7 P.M.
Memorials may be given for the Centralia EMT Association or St. Patrick’s Church and sent in care of the family.

Glenn L. Conway

Glenn L. Conway, 89, Centralia, KS, died Saturday, October 26, 2002, at Eastridge Care Home. He had been a resident there since March 27, 1991.
He was born January 18, 1913, at Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, the son of Frank and Laura Harmon Conway. The family moved to Emporia, KS, when he was a young boy. He graduated from high school in Emporia and earned a teaching certificate at the Emporia Normal School, which later became Emporia State Teacher's College. He taught at Hamilton High School in Kansas for several years. During World War II, he moved to Wichita to work for Boeing Aircraft in engineering design.
After the war he moved to Chicago where he worked at a company developing an automatic bottling machine. He also lived in Bonner Springs. In 1959 he and his wife, Viola, built the Blue Stem Bowling Alley in Emporia, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1974. They moved to Miami, Oklahoma, and in 1991 to Centralia. Glenn became a resident of the care home due to failing health.
He married Grace Hollingshead at Emporia. She preceded him in death. On November 19, 1955, he married Viola Hybskmann Friley at Seneca, Kansas. She also preceded him in death on May 31, 1998.
Mr. Conway was a member of the Congregational Church and the Masonic Lodge, both at Emporia.
Survivors are a daughter, Loretta Hale of Adrian, MO; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Conway and Frank Conway; two sisters, Irene Kerr and Lillian Riley.
Graveside inurnment was held on November 9 at the Seneca City Cemetery.

Iva L. Crandall

Iva L. Weyer Crandall, 90, of Seneca, KS, died Wednesday, September 27, at Crest View Manor in Seneca. She had been a resident there since June 25, 1998.
She was born February 28, 1910, at Kelly, KS, the daughter of Roy and Lizzie Sherrer Cox. Iva graduated from Centralia High School. She was married to Lester Weyer at Seneca on 1927. They lived at Seneca. He died November 16, 1941. She married Frank Crandall on December 31, 1946 at Seneca. He died April 17, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Arlene Weyer on May 23, 1935, and a son Robert Dean Weyer on August 21, 1997.
Iva owned a gas station in Baileyville with her husband, Lester Weyer, and later owned two laundromats with her husband, Frank Crandall. She was Clerk of the District Court at the Nemaha County Courthouse for several years. In 1955 she began work in the Nemaha County Clerk's Office and served as the Nemaha County Clerk from 1961 until her retirement in 1971.
Iva was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Quilting Group at the church in Seneca. She was a member of the Republican political party. She enjoyed sports with her son, Robert and her grandchildren. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, quilt, do crafts, and garden.
Survivors are three brothers, Marvin Cox of Madison, MO; Melvin Cox of Corning, KS; Tom Cox of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Edith Haug of Seneca, KS, and Gladys Walters of Lawrence, KS; two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, daughter, and son, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Schmidt and Erma Vernon.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 P.M. Friday. The burial will be in the Seneca City Cemetery.

Leo E. Crevier

Leo E. Crevier, 70, of Seneca died Friday afternoon, November 28, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.
He was born May 22, 1933, at Seneca, the son of Leo L. and Edna G. Shockey Crevier. Leo attended Sts. Peter & Paul Schools and graduated from the high school in 1951. He moved to Sacramento, CA where he worked for AT&T as an installer of telephone cables. After a year in California, he returned to Seneca and planned to enlist in the US Army. He was turned down due to a health problem and then worked for his dad as a blacksmith at the Crevier Welding Shop from 1952 to 1961. In 1961 he went to work for AT&T installing underground cable from Fairview, KS to Kingman, AZ. In 1964 he returned to Seneca and worked again with his dad. He purchased the Welding Shop in 1975. Due to failing health with rheumatoid arthritis, he sold the shop in 1985. He was able to help his son with a cattle fencing business and made the deliveries for several years.
Leo owned a race car, which he raced at Beatrice and Nemaha County Speedway east of Seneca. Earlier, he built a cabin at Lake Nemaha. He enjoyed coyote hunting and fishing. Leo was an avid computer user, often surfing the Internet. He was a family man and always kept in close family contact.
On September 4, 1954, he married Charlene LaFond at Sts. Peter & Paul Church at Seneca. She survives of the home.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and a more than 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus #1769, both at Seneca.
Survivors besides his wife, Charlene, are four sons, Daniel of Spring Hill, KS, Kenneth of Seneca, and twins Terry of Rogersville, MO and Larry of Springfield, MO; two daughters, Marilyn Sibold of St. Benedict, KS and Carolyn Sue Haverkamp of Goff, KS; seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose M. Crevier, on March 26, 2003.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home at 2 pm on Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 pm Sunday.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

Leo L. Crevier

Leo L. Crevier, 89, of Seneca, Kansas, died Monday, July 17, 2000 at Country View Estates Care Home in Seneca. He had been a resident there since July 27, 1998.
He was born August 18, 1910, at Winifred, Kansas, the son of Edmond and Julia Chaquette Crevier. He attended school at Winifred and later at Lillis after the family moved to Marshall County Kansas. His father was a blacksmith and made farm wagons. When he was 16, Leo worked for the Grand Island Railroad as a section hand for a year before he joined his father in the blacksmith shop. Later he worked at Lake Nemaha near Seneca, Kansas, at the CCC Camp where he shod horses.
In 1933 Leo and his brother, Vincent, opened Crevier's Welding Shop in Seneca. In 1948 he bought out his brother's interest. His son, Leo, worked with him and in 1975 purchased the shop, and Leo retired.
On June 30, 1932, he married Edna G. Shockey at Axtell, Kansas. She died February 2, 1995. They lived in Seneca for many years and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1982 and their 60th in 1992.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Joseph's Society at the church, and the Knights of Columbus # 1769, all at Seneca.
Survivors are his son, Leo E. of Seneca; a daughter, Rose Crevier of Seneca; 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A vigil prayer service will be conducted at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca at 7 P.M. Tuesday. The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or Country View Estates Activity Fund and sent in care of the family.
