Jeanette A. Heinen
Jeanette A. Heinen, 82, of Seneca, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
Jeannette was born August 17, 1930, on a farm south of Seneca, the daughter of Clem and Agatha Huerter Heinen. She attended St. Bede’s School in Kelly and graduated from high school in 1948.
After graduation she went to work at Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Topeka, retiring after 36 years with the company. After her retirement she came back to Seneca to take care of her mother. Jeanette remained in Seneca making it her home.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church.
Jeanette loved to cook and crochet, play cards, and enjoyed driving a new car, trading every year.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alice Heinen on October 27, 1935.
Survivors include her brother Norbert (Jane) Heinen of Seneca; four sisters, Helen (Elmer) Sack of Seneca, Mildred (Gerald) Mathewson of Seneca, Arlene (Joe) Gudenkauf of Seneca and Dorothy (Bill) Eaton of Maple Hill; a niece, Marya Haverkamp, and two nephews, Scott and Glenn Heinen; four great-nieces and seven great-nephews.
A rosary will be prayed at 3 PM Thursday, November 22, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Friday, November 23, at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will be in Sts. Peter & PaulCemeteryin Seneca. She will lie in state Thursday morning at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul Church and Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
Serenity & Grace Heinen
Serenity and Grace Heinen died May 1, 2014 at Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.
Serenity and Grace were born May 1, 2014, the twin daughters, of Russell and Kendra Mauck Heinen. Though their time here on earth was brief, the love they felt and gave will last for eternity.
They were preceded in death by grandparents, George Mauck and Faith Artz Budensiek, a great-uncle Joseph Haug.
They are survived by their parents, Russell and Kendra Mauck Heinen of Merriam, Kansas; maternal grandparents, Brad and Connie Mauck of Great Bend, Kansas; maternal great-grandparents Verna Mauck of Stockton, Kansas and Harold and Becki Budensiek of Cedar Falls, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Kent and Margie Heinen of Kelly; and paternal great-grandparents, Ernie and Rita Haug of Seneca and Melvin and Irene Heinen of Kelly.
Burial was in the St. Bede’s CatholicCemeteryin Kelly, Fr. Arul Carasala officiated the services.
Donald E. Henry
Donald E. Henry, 82, of Goff, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Holton Community Hospital.
Don was born on November 2, 1929 in Axtell, Kansas, the fourth child of Joseph and Hedwig (Waller) Henry. His childhood years were spent in Nemaha County where he attended Sts. Peter & Paul School through eighth grade. He worked on the family farm and later received his GED.
On November 9, 1950, he wed the love of his life, Dorothy (Dode) Eisenbarth, in Corning, Kansas.
In 1952, Don was drafted by the U.S. Army and proudly served our country for two years in the Korean War Conflict.
After his military discharge, he began farming with his brothers Joe and Francis "Frenchy", and later, Jim in a joint operation that later became Henry Brothers Farms. It was at this time when Don and Dode began their family. Over the years they celebrated the births of their five children, Tim, Alice, Marlene, Joan and Craig.
Don, Dode, and their children also operated a Grade A Dairy from 1954 until it was sold. His children admired his work ethic and dedication to his farm and family.
While busy farming 3, 000 acres and running dairy farms with his brothers, the opportunity arose to purchase the International Harvester farm implement dealerships in Seneca and Holton. On March 1, 1969, with his brothers Frenchy, Joe and Jim, they opened Henry Brothers, Inc. in Holton and Seneca. Later Don’s brother Dennis and his nephew Gary joined the business. In 1986, they expanded with a new dealership branch in Hiawatha.
Don discovered enjoyment being on the road and driving a semi tractor-trailer to transport equipment for the company.
He was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore and served on the church council, finance council, as a Eucharistic minister and was a Fourth Degree Knight. Don also served with the Nemaha County Training Center Board, USD 441 school board, and National Farmers Organization. Don's dedication to his country continued as proud member of the Goff American Legion and was honored to participate in Memorial Day ceremonies.
Don's participation and devotion to his church, community and country was unparalleled.
He enjoyed sharing his love of card games, fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking with his family. Those who knew him will always remember playing card games, his fishing spot, the produce from his bountiful garden, the smell of his delicious cinnamon rolls, homemade noodles, cookies and his homemade root beer. Don also specialized in comedy and enjoyed sharing a good joke.
He loved sharing in laughter and conversation with family, friends, and even strangers. In his retirement he enjoyed passing time by making rosaries, bracelets and necklaces. Most importantly, he always made time for and loved being surrounded by family.
Don is survived by Dode, his wife of 61 years, and his children, Tim of Goff, Alice (Randy) Tanking of Wetmore, Marlene (Matt) Wagoner of Salina, Joan (Fred) Hirsch of Abilene, and Craig (Pam) Henry of Onondaga, Michigan, as well as 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Surviving siblings include “Frenchy” (Francis) of Wetmore, Robert (Mary Ann), James (Jane), and Dennis (Joyce), all of Seneca, Regis (Cindy) of Centralia, Lawrence (Norma) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kenneth (Dorothy) of Topeka; two sisters, Edith (Ray) Rombeck of Topeka and Mary Jo (Charles) Barrett of Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by brothers Joe and Dick, and granddaughter, Katie Ann Wagoner.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Saturday, June 9, at St. James Church in Wetmore. Burial will be in the Wetmore City Cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 PM Friday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca and 7:30 PM Friday at St. James Church.
Memorials may be given for the Nemaha County Training Center, sent in care of the family.
Eleanor A. "Gussie" Henry
Eleanor A. “Gussie” Henry, 80, of Sabetha, KS, died before midnight Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Sabetha Manor Nursing Home.
She was born December 15, 1924, on a farm south of Baileyville, the daughter of Benjamin “Ben” and Philomena “Minnie” Dick Olberding. Gussie attended Baileyville schools and graduated from high school in 1942. She played softball and was the fastest left-handed pitcher in the area. Following high school, she moved to Kansas City, MO and was employed by Hallmark.
On February 6, 1943, she married
Linus “Lin” Henry at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. They lived on a farm north of Sabetha and a farm south of Seneca before her husband was inducted into the U.S. Army in January 1944. They lived at Army bases until July 1946 when he was discharged. They moved to Sabetha where Lin worked for Keithly Plumbing. In 1954 they purchased the plumbing business, and Gussie was the office manager for the 53 years they owned and operated the business.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Sabetha and the Altar Society at the church. For several years she was active in civil defense and served as a spotter in a tower. She was on the NECAP Board for several years as an officer and attended many meetings on their behalf. Gussie liked quilting and all kinds of needlework, painting, wood carving, and made rag rugs for many years.
Survivors are her husband, Lin of the home; a son, Jerry L. Henry, Redmond Washington; a daughter, Janis Allen, Azle, TX; two brothers, Elmer “Bud” Olberding, Baileyville, Earl Olberding, Topeka; four sisters, Viola Antle, Atchison, Margie Billinger, Kansas City, MO, Bobbie Droge, Kansas City, KS, Leona Droge, Topeka; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Lillian Fangman.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, where she will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. Sunday.
Memorials may be given for Nemaha County Home Health Hospice of Sabetha or the Sabetha Manor, and sent in care of the family.
Joseph A. "Joe" Henry, Jr.
Joseph A. "Joe" Henry, Jr., 82, of Goff, Kansas, died Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008 at the Holton Community Hospital.
He was born on the original Henry homestead south of Seneca, on March 19, 1926, the son of Joseph, Sr. and Hedwig Waller Henry. He attended Sts. Peter & Paul School in Seneca through the eighth grade, and later obtained his high school GED. Joe served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and also from 1951 to 1952, first at Naval Training Station (NTS) Farragut in Idaho and later aboard the battleship USS Alabama. After discharge, he worked as a mechanic at Mishler’s car dealership in Sabetha.
On November 14, 1949, he married
Evelyn Feldkamp at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. They initially lived in Albany, Kansas, then in the Woodlawn area, before making their permanent home on a farm northeast of Goff, where Evelyn still resides.
In 1954, Joe began farming jointly with his brothers "Frenchy" (Francis) and Don, and later Jim. While they were busy farming 3, 000 acres and running dairy farms, the opportunity arose to purchase the International Harvester farm implement dealerships in Seneca and Holton. On March 1, 1969, with his brothers Frenchy, Don and Jim, they opened Henry Brothers, Inc. in Holton and Seneca. Later Joe’s brother Dennis and his nephew Gary joined the business. In 1986, they expanded with a new dealership branch in Hiawatha. Joe was recognized as Jackson County Businessman of the Year in 1974 by the Jackson County Farm Bureau.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 1769 of Seneca, and later a charter member of the Wetmore Knights council, the Heald-Thieme Post #316 of the American Legion of Goff, the National Farmers Union, and St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. In 1988 he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Citizens State Bank in Seneca by the chairman and president, Michael Gullion. Joe enjoyed playing cards, going to the local casinos, fishing, spending time with family and friends, farming, and attending Tuesday Social Club in Goff.
Besides his wife Evelyn of the home, he is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Henry and Kathy Scheid, both of Holton, and Joyce Stallbaumer of Wetmore; five sons, Michael of Mayetta, Wayne of Holton, Alan of Wetmore, and Tom and Jeffrey, both of Topeka; eight brothers, “Frenchy” (Francis) of Wetmore, Donald of Goff, Robert, James, and Dennis, all of Seneca, Regis of Centralia, Lawrence of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kenneth of Topeka; two sisters, Edith Rombeck of Topeka and Mary Jo Barrett of Charlotte, North Carolina; 23 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Wednesday, March 26, at St. Patrick’s Church in Corning. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Regis A. Henry
Regis Anthony Henry, of Centralia, KS, passed away at the age of 76, on Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
Regis Anthony Henry "Peewee" was born June 3, 1937 south of Seneca, Kansas to Joseph and Hedwig (Waller) Henry. The family moved from Seneca to Corning in 1944. He attended school in Corning, Kansas; and graduated with the Class of 1955. After graduating from high school he moved to Conception, MO where he milked cows for the Benedictine Sisters at the Abbey. In 1955, he entered the Army and served two years in Germany. The remaining four years of his service duty was served as a reservist in Corning. After he was discharged from the Army he moved to Kansas City and worked at a Marchant Calculators, where he repaired calculators and typewriters. While working in Kansas City he met the love of his life Lucina (Cindy) Steinlage. They were married
on May 21, 1959 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church, Kelly, Kansas. After they were married
they lived in Kansas City for two more years then moved to the family farm two and half miles east of Centralia were they started a dairy. Dairy and farming were a big part of their lives until 1998. To this union were born seven children.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Alter Society, Knights of Columbus #1769 where he served as Grand Knight, the Fourth Degree Ponce de Leon Assembly where he served as a faithful navigator, School Board Member Kelly Schools, and St. Bede’s Catholic Church where he served on Church Council, and Mid-America Dairy Association. Hobbies include trips to the casino (especially those trips to Las Vegas) and watching his grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed a good card game with family and friends especially “Schafskopf” and bowling. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting up the Kelly Baseball Association where he coached all of his sons.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years; children, Kevin Henry of Centralia, Chris (Erin) Henry of Seneca, Roger (Nancy) Henry of Topeka, Vicki (Tom) Adams of Frankfort, Brian (Tracy) Henry of Alma, Keith (Dawnn) Henry of Centralia and Darrin (Kristen) Henry of Rossville; siblings, Edith (Ray) Rombeck of Topeka, Francis Henry of Wetmore, Robert (Mary Ann) Henry of Seneca, James (Jane) Henry of Seneca, Lawrence (Norma) Henry of Tulsa, OK, Kenneth (Dorothy) Henry of Topeka, Mary Jo (Charles) Barrett of Charlotte, NC, and Dennis (Joyce) Henry of Seneca; and 17 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Hedwig; and brothers, Joseph Jr., Donald and Richard.
Rosaries will be prayed at Lauer Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 2 and 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bede’s on April 10, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at St. Bede’s Cemetery, Kelly, KS.
