Rosemary A. Holthaus

Rosemary A. Holthaus, 87, of Seneca, Kansas, died Saturday evening, May 20, 2006, at Crestview Manor care home in Seneca.
She was born June 10, 1918, on a farm west of St. Benedict, Kansas, the daughter of Frank A. and Agnes Tangeman Olberding. She was the eighth child and her mother died a week later of complications of childbirth. She lived with her aunt and uncle, Mary and Henry Wietharn, until she was two years old and returned to her family. Rosemary attended St. Mary’s Grade School at St. Benedict and a year at Mt. St. Scholastica where she learned to play the organ. She returned home and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca in 1936.
On April 18, 1939, she married Carl B. Holthaus at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. They lived and farmed northwest of Kelly on the Holthaus homestead for two years. In 1941 they bought a farm south of Seneca. Her husband Carl died August 28, 1978. In 1980 Rosemary moved into Seneca.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca, where she washed and ironed the priest and server robes for 25 years. She was also a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society, the Quilters Group, and a rosary leader at the church. Earlier she was the leader of the Lakeshore 4-H Club for 20 years. Rosemary always had a large garden and did a lot of canning. She liked to sew and cook and won a contest for pie baking.
Survivors are three sons, Gene, Mark, and Chris, all of Seneca; three daughters, Marian Rottinghaus of Seneca, Maxine Rice of Horton, and Stella Pella of Tecumseh, Nebraska; a sister, Agnes Holthaus of Seneca; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband Carl, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Lawrence, George, Albert and Ben Olberding; a sister, Sr. Annella; grandchildren, Geralyn and Mary Rottinghaus, and Caleb Holthaus; and great-grandchild, James Carl Woolsoncroft.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Tuesday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School, Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital, and sent in care of the family.

Twila M. Holthaus

Twila M. Holthaus, 88, of Seneca, died late Monday afternoon, February 28, 2005, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She was born December 23, 1916, on a farm one-quarter mile south of Centralia, the daughter of J.P. (Perry) and Lulu Hales Glancy. She attended Centralia School and graduated from Centralia High School in 1934.
She was a bookkeeper and clerk in the Farmers Union Store, a bookkeeper for Hodges Grain Exchange, and a clerk for Centralia Community Sale, all in Centralia. She graduated from the Parisian Beauty Academy of St. Joseph, MO and worked in a beauty shop in St. Joseph. She was licensed both in Missouri and Kansas.
On October 5, 1940, she married Paul Holthaus at Marysville. They lived in Savannah, MO for a short time and then moved to Centralia where she owned and operated her beauty shop. In 1960 she was elected to the office of Register of Deeds of Nemaha County, which she held until her retirement in 1981. After her retirement they moved to Seneca. Her husband, Paul, died April 18, 1998.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, the GFWC Seneca Woman’s Club, the Nemaha Valley Hospital Guild, and the Seneca Business and Professional Women’s Club, who choose her as Woman of the Year in 1978. She served as chairperson for the Nemaha County Unit of the American Cancer Society. While in office she was a member of the Kansas Official Council and the Register of Deeds Association of Northeast Kansas and also served as its president. For several years, she was the Nemaha County co-chairman of the Republican Party Central Committee. Her hobbies were playing cards, cooking, and crocheting.
Survivors are two daughters, Ann Stevenson of Topeka and Joan Bauer of Enid, OK, a daughter-in-law, Connie Holthaus of Lecompton, KS; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bernard P. “Bernie” Holthaus, II, December 17 2002; twin daughters, Mary Jane and Martha Jean in 1950; three brothers Raymond, Floyd, and Glen Glancy; and two sisters, Fern Glancy and Mabel Hodges.
A memorial mass will be offered at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 4, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. There will be a prayer service at 7 P.M. Thursday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Inurnment will be in the churchcemeteryat a later date. Mrs. Holthaus donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Memorials may be given for the American Heart Association, the Cancer Society, or the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild, and sent in care of the family.

Vera O. Holthaus

Vera O. Holthaus, 86, of Seneca, Kansas, died March 21, 2003, at the Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Seneca. She had been a resident there since September 25, 2002.
She was born May 30, 1916, the daughter of John and Mildred Countryman Johnson, on a farm north of Baileyville. When she was young, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Centralia, Kansas. She grew up there, attended Centralia schools, and graduated from high school in 1934. Following high school, she moved to Seneca and was employed by Springer Variety Store as a clerk until 1942.
On May 18, 1942, she married Henry A. "Hienie" Holthaus at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They moved to Wadesboro, N.C. where Henry was stationed in the U.S. Army. Vera lived there for five weeks before Henry was shipped overseas. She returned to Seneca as a bookkeeper for the Farmer’s Elevator. She worked there till December of 1945, when Henry returned home from the service. Besides being a homemaker, she worked at the Prairie Lounge as a cook starting in 1964 for five years. In 1969 she began work as a cook at the Seneca Public High School and later became a cook at the Nemaha Valley High School until 1980, when she and her husband moved to Topeka. In Topeka she was employed in the deli at Harry’s IGA for two years until 1982 when they returned to Seneca. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and had been married almost 55 years when her husband, “Hienie” died January 25, 1997.
Her memberships include Sts. Peter & Paul Church; St Ann’s Altar Society at the church, and the Seneca Memorial Post #7458 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors are four sons, Michael Holthaus of Topeka, Randy Holthaus, Kurt Holthaus, and Timothy Holthaus, all of Seneca; a daughter Cheryl Osterhaus of Littleton, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Henry on December 27, 1945, and Joseph on September 16, 1946; and a brother, Glen Johnson.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home on Sunday and Monday at 7 P.M. Friends may call after 8:30 A.M. Sunday.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & School or for the Activity Fund at Crestview Manor and sent in care of the family.

Jeffrey J. Honeyman

Jeffrey J. “Jeff” Honeyman, 40, of Lenexa, KS, died April 1, 2003, at his home.
He was born January 24, 1963, at the Axtell Hospital at Axtell, Kansas, the son of Louis E. and Helen Boeckman Honeyman. He grew up where his family lived in Seneca, KS, graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School and Nemaha Valley High School in 1981. He was active in golf, bowling, and tennis during high school. He was employed at the Big B Grocery Store in Seneca for several years during and two years after high school. He moved to Kansas City where he was employed by UPS in the delivery and sorting departments.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. He was a starting player on the Seneca American Legion Baseball Team during his eligible years. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union, Local #41.
Survivors are his mother, Helen Honeyman of Seneca; a sister, Vickie Pfannenstiel of Elkhorn, NE; five nephews, two nieces, a great niece; uncles, aunts, and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis E. Honeyman, Jr. on January 2, 1991.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 10, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca on Wednesday at 2 and 7 P.M.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School and sent in care of the family.

Robert E. "Bob" Honeyman

Robert “Bob” E. Honeyman, 87, of Seneca died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born on December 11, 1927, to George and Katherine Koehler Honeyman. Bob spent his youth in Seneca and California, and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific. He was employed by the Sabetha Creamery and then drove a City Bus in Topeka.
Bob married Rosella “Rosie” Suther at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca on August 24, 1949; eight children were born to this union.
Bob delivered “Meadow Gold” Milk for 36 years. He was a co-owner of the Seneca Skate Rink and built and owned the Prairie Lounge building in Seneca.
Bob served on the Seneca Golf Board and assisted in the original formation of the “old” Seneca Nine Hole Golf Course with George Heideman. He loved his lifetime “Noon” T-time with his buddies. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (where he ushered for many years) and St. Joseph’s Society. He was also a member of the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion, the Seneca Memorial Post #458 of the VFW, the Seneca Chamber of Commerce and the Seneca Golf Club. He loved golfing, playing cards and driving automobiles for Honeyman Ford.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Honeyman; and brothers, Lawrence, Leo and Regis.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosie of Seneca; seven children, Rick (Linda) Honeyman of Seneca, Gary (Diann) Honeyman of Laramie, WY, Janet Honeyman (Roger McCollister) of Lawrence, Terry (Jenny) Honeyman of Topeka, Diane (Lloyd) Brandenburg of Topeka, Lori (Mark) Koepsel of Topeka, Jeanne (Alyn) Thomsen of Lawrence; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed at 3 PM on Sunday, October 12th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Monday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Memorials may be left in Bob’s memory to Seneca Spring Creek Golf Course.

Michael J. "Mick" Huber

Michael J. “Mick” Huber, 69, of Seneca, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at his home in Seneca.
Mick was born on November 20, 1944 in Houston, Texas to Mathias and Verna Maelzer Huber. When he was five the family moved to Sabetha and then to Seneca; he graduated from Seneca High School with the Class of 1963. During high school he was employed by Mealy Hy-Klas Grocery Store.
He married Virginia L. Enneking on August 5, 1967 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He went to work for Milgram’s Grocery Store and was later transferred to Kansas City; he was then transferred to Springfield, Missouri, then to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was employed with Horner’s Grocery in Pryor, Oklahoma. He moved his family to Seneca in 1979. He worked for and later purchased the Seneca Meat Market.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing, working on his car and truck for area car shows, playing cards, gardening and woodworking.
Mick is survived by his wife, Virginia “Lenny” Huber of Seneca; two sons, Brian (Angie) Huber of Olathe and Mike Huber of Seneca; siblings, Laura Hardenson of New Bern North Carolina, Susie Baker of Tonganoxie, Irene Spring of Independence and John Huber of New Bern, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Cole, Ty, Mia, Casey & Emmery Huber; and Bailey Freeman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Lawrence Huber and Helen McKinsey.
A Rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. on Friday, November 14th at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 10 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
Memorials will be designated at a later date.

Barbara J. Huerter

Barbara J. Huerter, 55, Seneca, formerly of Topeka, left her loving family on earth to be with her loving Father in heaven on September 30, 2003.
She was born August 2, 1948, at Seneca, the daughter of Quintin “Rupp” and Genevieve “Jenny” Skoch Ronnebaum. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Schools, graduating from high school in 1966. Barb was in many school activities and was selected to be Homecoming queen. Following high school, she attended a business college in Kansas City, and during that time was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She bravely fought a life-long battle with reoccurrences of brain tumors, subsequent surgeries and had four, the last in April of this year.
On February 10, 1968, she married James Huerter, Jr. in Seneca. They lived in Hawaii for two years while Jim was in the army. Their daughter Kimberly was born there. Their son, Jeffrey, was born in Topeka. They lived in Topeka where she did day care in her home. They were later divorced.
Barb worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and for an office supply company. She was also employed by the State of Kansas in the KPERS Department for 21 years as a senior administrative assistant before she retired due to health in April of 2000. In the fall of 2002 she returned to Seneca to make her home with her parents. In May of 2003, after her final surgery, she entered Country View Estates Care Home.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. She taught Sunday school, was a lay minister and took communion to the homebound. She also did volunteer work taking elderly to the doctor, visiting nursing homes and assisting with bingo at nursing homes. She was a former and present member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca.
Survivors are a son, Jeffrey Huerter, and a daughter, Kimberly Cott, both of Topeka; her parents, Jenny and Quintin “Rupp” Ronnebaum, Seneca; a brother, Russell Ronnebaum of Wichita; three sisters, Vicki Ronnebaum of Overland Park, Janet Kohake of Visalia, CA and Kris Enneking of Rossville; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 2, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca at 7 P.M. on Wednesday.
Memorials may be given for Sacred Heart School in Topeka or Country View Estates in Seneca, and sent in care of the family.
