Dylan M. Hynek
Dylan M. Hynek, son of Lori Chilson and Mike Hynek, Seneca, KS, was stillborn late Friday evening, March 18, 2005, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
Survivors besides his parents are grandparents, Barbara and Leland Chilson, and Karen and Rick Hynek, all of Seneca; and great-grandmothers, Margaret Haverkamp, Seneca and Colleen Montagne, Sioux City, IA.
There will be a priavte graveside service at St. Bede’s Cemetery, in Kelly, conducted by Fr. Earl Dekat.
Mike Hynek
Michel “Mike” J. Hynek, 35, of Kelly, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
He was born on March 3, 1978 in Seneca, Kansas to Rick and Karen Hynek. He was active in sports; kids wrestling, football and Legion softball. He graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in 1996. He attended Kansas State University. He worked for Honeyman Ford and Tom Kramer Construction. He was employed at Nemaha County Co-Op from 2006 until his death.
He married
Lori Chilson on June 17, 2006 at St. Bede’s Catholic Church in Kelly. The couple made their home west of Kelly on his grandparents’ family farm. Mike loved the outdoors and treasured the time he spent hunting, trapping and fishing with his family. He took great pride in raising a large vegetable garden and gifting the fruits of his labor.
He was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church and the Kelly Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of the Corning Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dylan Hynek; and grandparents, Joseph and Margaret Haverkamp and Joseph and Mary Hynek.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Hynek and children, Caleb and Lena Hynek all of the home; parents, Rick and Karen Hynek of Seneca; brothers, Chris Hynek and Brad Hynek both of Seneca; and parents-in-laws, Leland and Barbara Chilson of Seneca.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, February 7, 2014, at St. Bede's Catholic Church in Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 &7 PM on Thursday, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
Memorials may be left in Mike’s memory to, the Caleb and Lena Hynek Education Fund.
Anna M. Ice
Anna M. Ice, 91, of St. Joseph, Missouri, died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at a hospital there.
She was born January 31, 1911, at Kelly, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Mamie McGrath Fleming. She attended St. Bede's School at Kelly and graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca. She attended Clark Business School in Topeka. During the 1930's she was a relief switchboard operator in Kelly.
Anna then moved to Topeka and worked for many years in the office of the Sante Fe Railroad. She moved to St. Joseph in 1954.
She married
Warren Ice in 1948. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1997.
She was a member of the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. She was a Girl Scout leader and had done volunteer work at the Sister's Hospital in St. Joseph for many years.
Survivors are a brother, Robert Fleming of Aberdeen, Maryland; a sister, Mary Shanbour of St. Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, George, and Cyril Fleming.
Graveside services will be conducted at St. Bede'sCemeteryin Kelly at 11 A.M. Saturday.

Sharon A. Johnson
Sharon A. Johnson, 54, of Centralia, Kansas, died Friday, October 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Lisa Honeyman, in Seneca, Kansas. She had cancer and had been ill since last February.
She was born July 26, 1947, in Seneca, the daughter of Walter "Nub" and Dorothy Wright Bryan, and grew up on a farm southwest of Centralia. She attended grade school at Pleasant Hill School #10 Rural near her farm home. The family moved into Centralia in 1959, and she graduated from Centralia High School in 1965.
On June 5, 1965 she married
Elton McLaughlin at Centralia. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska and Corning, Kansas. They were later divorced. Sharon was employed by Campbell Soup Company at Tecumseh, Nebraska, for about two years. On August 8, 1969, she married
John Johnson. They lived in Omaha. He died December 4, 1970. Sharon returned to Tecumseh in 1976 and married
Steve Johnson on December 22, 1976, at Tecumseh. They moved to Centralia in 1979 where she helped her husband drive a truck for Bennett Trucking, Preferred Transportation, out of Strong City, KS. She stopped trucking in December of 2000 to take care of her mother who was ill.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Centralia.
Survivors are two sons, James Johnson and Jason Johnson, both of Centralia; a daughter, Lisa Honeyman of Seneca; a sister, Joyce Vance of Onaga, KS; and five grandchildren.
Besides her husband John Johnson, she was preceded in death by a son, John R. Johnson, on July 2, 1991; her father, Walter Bryan, on February 4, 1994; and her mother, Dorothy Bryan, on January 9, 2001.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Centralia. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 P.M. at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Burial will be in the CentraliaCemeteryin Centralia.
Memorials may be given for the American Cancer Society or the Midland Hospice in Topeka and sent in care of the family.
Elmer W. "Bud" Keithley
Elmer W. “Bud” Keithley, 84, Seneca, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.
He was born August 25, 1919, in Pawnee City, NE, the son of Willis Elmer and Augusta Louise Cornelius Keithley. He was raised on a farm south of Seneca and attended Diamond School. He helped on the family farm and the Bernie Kampert farm while he was growing up. Bud was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps camp, Company 2735, from 1936 until 1939 when Nemaha County Lake was established. In 1941 he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for four years out of Axtell, KS. From 1945 to 1953 he worked in the stockyards in Omaha, NE and was a farm hand there. In March of 1953 he began employment for the Kansas Department of Transportation and remained faithfully employed for the KDOT for 32 years until his retirement on December 31, 1985. Bud held the Sub-A Supervisor position for several years in Seneca and had been named as a Supervisor of the year.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Seneca. Bud will long be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit and unconditional love he had for them. He had been in failing health since 1993 when he suffered a heart attack. He did woodworking and was very good at fixing mechanical things.
On October 5, 1941, he married
Barbara Jean Goebel at Marysville, KS. They lived in Axtell, Omaha, and made their home in Seneca for the last 50 years. After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling together.
Survivors besides his wife, Barbara, of the home are two sons, Ronald Keithley of Kansas City, Elmer Keithley of Eudora, KS; four daughters, Linda Haggard, Barbara Enneking, and Joni Feldkamp, all of Seneca, and Jeanne Dorste of Fall City, NE; a special niece they raised, Kate Sanders, of Baileyville; a sister, Hilda Levi of Hement, CA; a brother, Raymond Keithley of Underwood, IA; 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Wilcox, Elsie Spring, Velma Hart, and Virginia Keithley; granddaughters, Lisa Baker on September 1, 2001, Melissa Feldkamp on July 9, 1980, and a grandson, Brent Larkin on August 8, 1974.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Seneca. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M Tuesday at the Lauer Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Seneca City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Respiratory Department at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or to the United Methodist Church at Seneca and sent in care of the family.
L. Jeanette King
Louise Jeanette King, 84, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Oneida, KS, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Brewster Place in Topeka.
She was born September 4, 1918, on a farm south of Oneida, KS, the daughter of Jacob S. and Nora Hamler Anderson. She spent her early life in the Oneida and Sabetha communities and graduated from Oneida High School in 1936. At 50 years of age, she enrolled in the Atchison Public School of Practical Nursing, graduating valedictorian of her class and become a Licensed Practical Nurse. After graduating she moved to Topeka where she worked for the Topeka-Shawnee County Health Department for 14 years and at the Colmery-O’Neil Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Topeka for 11 years. After her retirement in January of 1993, Jeanette continued to work as a private nurse until she was 80 years old.
Jeanette married
Otis Kooser in 1936, having two children. They were divorced. She later married
Lynn King in 1953 and had her third child. This marriage was also dissolved by divorce.
Survivors are a daughter, Edith Neiman of Santa Monica, CA; two sons, Kenneth Kooser of Huntsville, TX, and David Lynn King of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Floy Frances, and her two brothers, Lynn and Ralph “Andy” Anderson.
There will be a memorial service at 2 P.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the United Methodist Church, Oneida, KS, followed by inurnment in the Oneida Cemetery.

Mary H. Kinsey
Mary H. Kinsey, 94, Seneca, died Friday, January 07, 2005, at Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was born June 22, 1910, on a farm north of Seneca, the daughter of Anton and Mary R. Hinrichs Gudenkauf. She attended Flag School and Sts. Peter & Paul School, worked on the family farm, and helped take care of her mother who was in ill health at a young age.
On April 26, 1933, she married
Chester A. Kinsey at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They farmed north of Seneca for a year before they moved to Seneca. In the late 1940s she and her husband, Chet, operated the Sunset Acres Service Station west of Seneca. Mary worked at the Gilford Hotel as an upstairs maid and also did laundry for the hotel. She took care of her Aunt Lena and Uncle Herman Hinrichs who lived with the family, and also Mrs. Florence Naismith who lived at the Gilford Hotel, as well as other friends and neighbors.
Mary was a hard working person. She also did laundry for the Starlite Motel, the Linda Motel, and the Cedars 36 Motel. When Chet was the sexton at the Seneca City Cemetery, Mary helped him set monuments for 21 years, often lending a hand with the heavy moving chores.
They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1983, and their 65th wedding anniversary, before Chet preceded her in death on October 18, 1999. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph, on January 15, 1934. She lived in her own home until August of 2002 when she went to live with her daughter. In August 2003 she entered Life Care Center of Seneca.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, where she and Chet sang in the choir for many years, and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church. They had a large garden and did a lot of canning. They shared their garden produce with relatives and friends. Mary enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and spending a lot of time with her grandchildren.
Survivors are a son, Leonard Kinsey of Shawnee, KS, and a daughter, Mary Ann Haugsness of Seneca; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Besides her husband and infant son, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clem, Anthony, Joseph, and Vincent Gudenkauf, and three sisters, Catherine Rottinghaus, Elizabeth Altenhofen (Anthony’s twin), and Helen Grollmes.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 2 and 7 P.M. on Monday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca, where she will lie in state after 8:30 A.M. on Monday.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School and sent in care of the family.
