Mathias J. "Matt" Lierz
Mathias J. “Matt” Lierz, 96, Seneca, KS, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, at Crestview Manor Care Home in Seneca.
He was born June 13, 1907, at Seneca, the son of Peter and Mary Kramer Lierz.
On April 22, 1931, he married
Mary Bergman at St. Mary’s Church, St. Benedict. They lived and farmed near Seneca. His wife, Mary, died on November 15, 1969. Matt was a farmer and a stockman until 1973 when he moved into his new home in Seneca.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Mathias, on February 22, 1936; by five brothers, Leo, Paul, Vincent, Sylvester, and Joe; and three sisters, Clara Broxterman, Bertha Heiman, and Mary Mulryan.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, and the St. Joseph Society at the church.
Survivors are two daughters, Darlene (Mrs. Norman Rethman) and Laverne (Mrs. Arlen Henry), both of Seneca; a brother, Raymond Lierz, of Baileyville; a sister, Helen (Mrs. Joe Heiman), of Baileyville; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a step great-grandson; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca at 2 and 7 P.M. Monday.
Memorials may be given for Sts. Peter & Paul School and sent in care of the family.
Mildred M. "Millie" Lierz
Mildred M. “Millie" Lierz, 76, of Seneca, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Life Care Center in Seneca, after a two year battle with cancer.
She was born July 21, 1929, in Seneca, one of twelve children of Christopher and Agnes Waller Sack. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Schools and graduated from high school in 1947.
On November 23, 1950, she married
Cyril A. Altenhofen. They had two sons, Dennis and Mark. He died May 2, 1962.
On July 20, 1963, she married
Joseph H. Lierz at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed south of Baileyville for 27 years until 1988 when they moved to Seneca. He died February 11, 1992.
Millie continued to live in Seneca and was employed at Ray’s Apple Market in the Bakery Department for 18 years before recently retiring.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild, all of Seneca. She was also a former member of Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. Millie was an active, cheerful person who enjoyed sporting events, bowling, cards, traveling, quilting, and walking.
Survivors are four sons and their spouses, Dennis and SuEllen Lierz, of Albuquerque, NM, Mark and Becky Lierz, of Baileyville, Tom and Wendy Lierz, of Seneca, and Jim and Rachael Lierz, of Overland Park; three daughters and their spouses, Joni and John Tangeman, of Sabetha, Susan and Jay White, of Manhattan, and Tricia and Cayle Herl of Parker, CO; two brothers, Charles Sack, of Topeka and Leon Sack, of East Point, FL; four sisters, Eileen Sheehan, of Kansas City, MO, Mary Kirkman, of Houston, MO, Sally Koehler, of Seneca, and JoAnn Davis, of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands Cyril and Joseph, she was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Hedderman, Eleanor Love, Virginia Ketter, and Rita Schulte; brothers Raymond Sack and Bob Sack; and a great-granddaughter, Virginia Wood.
The mass of Christian burial will be 10 AM Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM Thursday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Life Care Center of Seneca, and sent in care of the family.
Patricia A. Lierz
Patricia A. Lierz, 83, Baileyville, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
She was born October 25, 1929, on a farm northeast of Seneca, the daughter of Elmer G. and Josephine Rethman Stallbaumer. She attended St. Bede’s School in Kelly and St. Patrick’s School in Corning. Pat helped on the family farm and also did domestic work and took care of new born babies for local families.
On September 12, 1950, she married
Henry J. Lierz at St. Patrick’s Church at Corning. They lived and farmed on the Lierz farm until 1961 when they moved to a farm east of Vliets. In 1979 they moved back to the Lierz home place where they had livestock and a dairy. Pat worked at Annunciation School in Frankfort from 1968 to 1971 as a cook. She worked at the USD #380 Grade School at Frankfort for 10 years and at the Friendly Neighbor Nutrition Center in Frankfort for 14 years until she retired in 1994. They retired from farming in April of 1986 and moved into Baileyville. Pat and Henry celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in September of 2000.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Ann’s Altar Society at the church in Baileyville. She was a former member of Annunciation Church and the Altar Society where she had served as an officer. Pat liked sewing, embroidery, cooking and baking. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Survivors are three sons, William (Rex), Kenneth (Pam) and James all of Topeka; three daughters, Jean (Dan) Wrosch of Onaga, Shirley (Gary) Hulsing of Topeka and Connie Lierz of Baileyville; two brothers, Lawrence “Larry” Stallbaumer of Corning and Gerald Stallbaumer of Topeka; five sisters, Darlene Roeder of Seneca, Jo Ella Ronnebaum of Centralia, Mary Shephard, Diane McConnaughey and Linda Feldkamp all of Topeka; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lierz on November 27, 2010; two daughters, Mary Jo on August 1, 1957 and Elizabeth Louise on April 5, 1963; and two brothers, Donald Stallbaumer on September 7, 1980 and Galen Stallbaumer on December 14, 2004.
Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, September 30, 2013 at 10A.M. at the Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Corning, KS. The rosary will be prayed at 2 & 7 P.M. Sunday at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca where she will lie in state after 8 A.M.

Raymond A. "Ray" Lierz
Raymond A. “Ray” Lierz, 94, retired farmer, stockman, and dairyman of Baileyville, KS, died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at his home.
He was born on a farm east of Seneca on May 15, 1912, the son of Peter and Mary Kramer Lierz. He attended the Ford Grade School near Seneca for a year, but at age 8 he moved with his family to a farm south of Baileyville. He then attended Sacred Heart School at Baileyville and worked on the family farm.
On January 5, 1938, he married
LaVerne C. Mulryan at St. Michael’s Church in Axtell, KS. They lived and farmed northeast of Baileyville for two years. In 1940, they moved to the Lierz family farm south of Baileyville where they lived for 19 years and raised six children. The couple bought a farm west of Baileyville in 1959 and lived there until the spring of 1972 when they moved into Baileyville. After his retirement from the farm, Ray worked with Vernus McCaffery for 12 years doing carpentry work and painting homes. On May 15, 2003, his wife of 65 years preceded him in death.
Ray was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he had served on the church council. Ray also served on the Baileyville School Board. His hobbies were playing cards and going fishing with his buddies.
Survivors are four sons, Kenneth Lierz of Tempe, AZ, Ronald and Robert Lierz, both of Topeka, and Adrian Lierz of Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Rosemary Kennedy of Kansas City, MO, and Clara Niehues of Wetmore; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was proceeded in death by his six brothers; Mathias, Leo, Joseph, Paul, Sylvester, and Vincent; and four sisters, Clara Broxterman, Bertha Heiman, Mary Mulryan, and Helen Heiman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church at Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM Sunday at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Andrew Garrett "Drew" Lindeen
Andrew Garrett "Drew" Lindeen, 11, of Topeka, KS, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the scene of a one car accident west of Goff.
He was born May 8, 1990, in Topeka, the son of Kenneth L. and Sheryl Allison Lindeen. He grew up there and had completed the fourth grade at Shawnee Heights Elementary School.
Drew was active in basketball, soccer and baseball. He played the viola in his school orchestra. He loved riding bike and playing Nintendo with his friends.
Survivors include his mother Sheryl Lindeen, of the home; his father, Kenneth Lindeen, of Topeka; and a brother, Brett Lindeen of the home; grandparents, Mary Lindeen of Seneca, KS and Lynn and Arlene Allison of Brookings, S.D.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Thursday, August 2, at Shawnee Heights United Methodist Church in Topeka. The burial will be in Memorial ParkCemeteryin Topeka.
Memorials may be given for a fund to be later designated and sent in care of Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 4020 S.W. 6th St. Topeka, 66606.

Kathryn F. Lindeen
Kathryn Frances Lindeen, 95, Seneca, passed away to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2014, at the Life Care Center in Seneca, KS.
On January 3, 1919, Kathryn, was born the third child of Delone S. and Katie Mae Smith Peck. They lived in a small rural community area called, Six Mile Station, GA, close to Rome, GA. She attended grade school in Forney, AL and Center High School in Center, AL. She was baptized at the Georgia New Bethel Baptist Church.
Kathryn married
Roland T. Welsh of Rock Run, AL on May 10, 1936. They lived at Rock Run until his death on October 9, 1941. They were blessed with three children, Wilma Dean, Roland Douglas, and Brenda Joyce. She then worked at the Pepperell Fabric Plant in Lindale, GA where she met some good life-long friends. She met Elmer W. Lindeen while he was serving in the Army, stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. They were later married
in Vliets, KS, on May 30, 1946; he preceded her in death on May 18, 1978. They lived in Seneca, KS most of their lives; having one child, Sandra Sue. Kathryn worked various jobs in Seneca, working at Sam’s Grocery store, the Seneca Hospital, and 20 years at J.C. Penney’s. She later worked for Country View Estates and the Nemaha Valley School Cafeteria.
Kathryn had many hobbies, reading, playing BINGO, painting, ceramics, quilting, sewing, all handcrafts and growing beautiful flowers. She hand crafted quilts and afghans for all of her children and their children. She was on a Bowling League for many years and was very involved with the Church and community activities. She was also a past member of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Kathryn devoted her life and love to the well-being of her children and their families.
She is survived by her children, Wilma Jones of Seneca, Doug Welsh of Topeka, Brenda and Shelton Stone of Branson and Sandra & Steve Vaught of Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren and 4 great-great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ona Mae Hester of Forney, AL; a brother, George B. Peck of Summerville, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter Lee and Delone B. Peck; a son-in-law, Clyde Jones; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette (Hash) Welsh; and a great-great granddaughter, Olive Fleming.
A visitation will be held at 1PM, one hour prior to the funeral services, family and friends will come together to celebrate Kathryn’s life on Monday, December 29th at 2PM at Lauer Funeral Home. Internment shall take place at the SenecaCemeteryfollowing the services.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn’s memory to Lucy’s Love Bus, Cure Search and St. Baldrick’s Foundation, to be sent in care of family.
Sharon Lindemuth
Sharon Lindemuth, Seneca, died early Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006, at the Nemaha Valley community hospital in Seneca.
She was born July 19, 1938, the second daughter to James and Lucille (Byers) Van Gilder in Frankfort, KS. She grew up on the family farm six miles SE of Vermillion, KS. She attended a one-room rural schoolhouse called Windy Ridge, and later graduated from Vermillion High School as salutatorian in 1956. She then enrolled in nursing school in Tulsa, OK, and went on to be a nurse’s aide at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
She married
Frank Lindemuth on June 22, 1958. After marriage she became a loving homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, interior decorating, playing trivia, card, and board games, going to antique stores and auctions, horseback riding, and dancing.
She is survived by Frank, her husband of 48 years; her 4 children, Rickey of Topeka, Bret of Garden Grove, CA, Brad (Tammy) of Manistique, MI, Rhonda (Henry) George of Keller, TX; her grandchildren, Rickey Jr., Adam, Brandi, Kenneth, Spencer, Cameron, Zachary, Brianna, and Lyndsey; and great-grandchild Damian.
Other survivors are her mother Lucille Van Gilder of Vermillion; sisters Maxine (Bud) Eden of Jenks, OK, Sandra (Charles) Allport of Beaver Creek, OH; brothers James (Karen) Van Gilder of Centralia, Larry (Diane) Van Gilder of Topeka, and Dennis Van Gilder Vermillion.
She was preceded in death by her Father James Van Gilder.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday November 24 at the Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. She will be laid to rest at Vermillion Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers all memorial contributions be made to the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital or the Midland Hospice Center.
